It hasn't been road tax for years, it's Vehicle Excise Duty now.

Certainly doesn't get spent on the road round here  :wall

Tax by any other name....cue Wikipedia ((Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) (also known as vehicle tax or car tax) is a vehicle road use tax)

Try the DVLA for an accurate description, it is described as vehicle tax not road tax, as I stated it hasn't been road tax for some years when it was known as Road Fund License.

Wiki is quite frequently wrong.

While it's quite flattering having you follow me around trying to correct every post I make, it is getting a bit silly, especially as you are so consistently wrong.
Hilarious. :rollin being pedantic about wording doesn't stop tax being tax.

And where did I say it's not a tax?

Once again in your mission to correct me you have made yourself look silly, I said it's not ROAD tax, it is Vehicle Excise Duty - in that it ain't spent on the roads.

Please go away now and obsess about someone else, I'm bored with you.

Of course the ridiculous thing is that I pay £0 for 12 months vehicle tax on my classic bike and even better than that, two mate have classic cars and also pay £0 for their vehicle tax/

One is a 3.0 Capri and the other has a MK1 Lotus Cortina and a Corsair with a transplanted modernish V8 engine with pretty much just the original bodywork left!

Gas guzzlers indeed yet their VED is free - work that one out!

Quite like the Ford Capri, stock or modified? Pics ftw :D

From memory it's a metallic blue 1970 (ish) face lifted model with 4 headlights, haven't seen it for a while but I think it's mostly stock with a few mechanical upgrades knowing him. He's not into facebook so no easy to get pics but I'll ask when I see him.

One troll on any forum is enough and we have one, he's called UG.

I'm sure you'll be along with your beloved Wiki description of a troll but as far as I know trolls don't contribute to forum discussions, they just try to take them off topic or destroy them altogether.

Have a look at your posts and then mine (I mean a proper look, not your usual speed read the first two lines then dash off a comment) and tell me who you think fits the troll description.

I presume he means he won't look at this thread anymore. So, to summarise: He said something, someone else said something, they disagreed, he gave up and left the conversation.

Well, if the sideshow's over, I'll just say I agree with Pilgrim's comment that it's not bad value compared with a car.
The 54mpg I get from the Fazer works out at just over 120g CO2/km, but a (post March 2001) car with emissions in that range would just hit the £105 level of road tax. So from that point of view, £57 for a 600cc bike tax disc could be seen as reasonable… even going some way towards recognising that we benefit other road users by reducing congestion.

What was all that about?

Couple of things annoy me about road tax, I bought my used 2002 VW in 2005 just before they introduced the new system.  And what did they do, they introduced it retrospectively.  So I bought an ordinary car, knowing how much it would cost me to buy a tax disc, then they reworked the road tax system and wacked my tax right up.  How can that be fair?

Then I've got my bike, of which again I have to pay road tax if I wanna use it.  Funny thing is I can only use one at a time, so why am I paying road tax twice over, same for third party insurance.

Scrap The Road Tax and stick it on fuel.  That way the more you use, the more you pay.  Fair for everybody, and yup it's gonna make my think when it comes time to change the car.

VED,VAT, tax on everything. Then you have all the cost of administration (DVLA). There are too many bands/tiers of duty containing too many anomalies.
My 1951 25cc Cyclemaster: Tax exempt/MOT exempt
Fazer 600: Tax £31-35 for 6 months
Fazer Thou: Tax about £74 per annum
Fiat Panda 1.1 Tax £30 per annum.
If  we are to be taxed for road USE then, yes, put a penny or so on cost of fuel to pay for pollution/wear & tear( or whatever they really spend it on!)
If for vehicle OWNERSHIP I suppose we are stuck with present system, with all its anomalies, together with all the associated admin costs.
At least by putting the cost on fuel it  prevents the tax disc dodgers benefitting.
Perhaps show a disc for insurance & one for MOT???-think they do something like this in Eire?
