Tax renewal forms to both my Fazer and Fireblade landed on the door mat yesterday. Looks like I'll have to sell one of the kids. Still, get the priorities right.

It hasn't been road tax for years, it's Vehicle Excise Duty now.

Certainly doesn't get spent on the road round here  :wall

Its £58 more than your car as all these cheap or zero tax cars are having there short fall made up by bikes and older/higher emission cars, where I can see the logic in the car side of it I can't for bikes.  There is now no real differential in having two wheels and smaller engine as against four and bigger engine plus there are no co2 banding levels for bikes that I know of, it's just a treasury giving with one hand taking with the other rip off.

vehicle road use tax

No, it's not because you pay it whether you use the roads or not even if your vehicle is *off* the road (unless you SORN) and you don't pay for how much you use the roads.

It is a tax on your ownership of a vehicle, pure and simple.

You want to use the road, you pay the tax or you can't.  That is road tax.  You don't use your vehicle on the road you don't have to pay it.  If you don't intend to use the road you declare sorn, you don't declare sorn then you intend to use the road. not tax on owning the vehicle as you can own the vehicle and not use the road.

Couldn't you just sell one of their kidneys just to tide you over?

Tax by any other name....cue Wikipedia ((Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) (also known as vehicle tax or car tax) is a vehicle road use tax)

Try the DVLA for an accurate description, it is described as vehicle tax not road tax, as I stated it hasn't been road tax for some years when it was known as Road Fund License.

Wiki is quite frequently wrong.

While it's quite flattering having you follow me around trying to correct every post I make, it is getting a bit silly, especially as you are so consistently wrong.

Wow, that's £58 more than my car!  :eek

Holy crap! I wish!

I just forked out £280.00 for my car  :'(

The main reason I have a small car (2004 ford fiesta 1.4TDCi £20 a year road tax) is because I am trying to save money. I was driving an Audi A4 2.0 petrol sport for the last couple of years but the road tax at £265ish a year and the fuel bills were just stupid. The fiesta is dull but for now it's the way it has to be. Just filled it up today £56 and I'd done just over 500 miles. The bike is for fun for me so it does seem stupid that the road tax for my bike is about £60. £40 more than the car I use almost every day.  :rolleyes

Of course the ridiculous thing is that I pay £0 for 12 months vehicle tax on my classic bike and even better than that, two mate have classic cars and also pay £0 for their vehicle tax/

One is a 3.0 Capri and the other has a MK1 Lotus Cortina and a Corsair with a transplanted modernish V8 engine with pretty much just the original bodywork left!

Gas guzzlers indeed yet their VED is free - work that one out!

How much is the tax on a twelve year old car that does 160mph and 0-60 in a little over 3 seconds?
Bet its a lot more than 78 quid. :b
I think its a bit of a bargain really. The wifes 2012 1.4 Fiesta Zetec is more than that, and BORING as fuck to drive. Goes round corners ok though. :evil
Dont tell her that though, she'll call me a 'mad lad'.

Its better to ask a stupid question than make a stupid mistake.
