For Sale & Wanted / Re: R6 shock.......

This looks tempting. Any idea on the history of it? How much mileage it racked up, etc?

« on: 23 July 2015, 07:46:29 pm »
I have an '01 Boxeye and am fairly comfortable with doing about 170-190 a tank.
My riding is 7.6 miles to work and back each day, pop the choke on (so that it revs to 2.3k at idle) for the first 3 quarters of a mile, then off it goes. The following (almost) 7 miles is motorway that blends back down to a dual carriageway, at a steady 75/80mph.
The warning light comes on after about 160miles and I know I can get another 20-30 miles depending on how delicate I am throttle-wise after that.
I use the RoadTrip app on my phone and average about 50mpg over a tank, but that doesn't take into account how steady/furious my riding can be. If I didn't go over 80 and rode for a long stint I'm pretty sure I'd touch 200miles a tank, but really, who has the time to worry about the intricies of all that.
I'm off on a biking holiday with my brother round Wales from Sat 26th for the week, so I'll record mileage for full days in the saddle and report back. See how much of a difference it is when I'm not just travelling for 7-8 miles at a time.

In short, no.
There's a Dainese store in Piccadilly Gardens and a couple of bike mechanics (Mr. Pigs and Kickstart) spotted about, but nothing else in town and/or decent. There're Hunt's Honda dealer's south of the city centre, but it's a good 20+minute walk from the centre.
Good luck.

I've got a 51 plate blue one, and it goes plenty quick enough when I want it too.
Maybe that's because I'm a faster rider and don't need to worry about my bike keeping up with my riding abilities by having a specific colour?

Am i just gonna piss everyone off now by saying that I went round to a mate's house on Friday afternoon for him to take my pipes off and replaces them, ready for a blast out today (Sunday) and that everything went swimmingly well and had the bike back to me by that evening? Had them off in 20 mins (applied mini cooking blowtorch heat to each nut before it came off(also, engine was still hot from riding it there)) and didn't even need any spray lubricant at all. Bearing in mind my bike's a boxeye '01, with near 60K on the clocks and these were the original downpipes(you could tell by the state of them!) then either my friend is a damned genius at doing this job, or one lucky $%*!?

Popping down the road for a jolly jaunt shows that at an indicated 70mph, my tachograph is reading 5900rpm, in standard gearing in top gear.

I had the BT023's on mine when I got it and have since changed to Road Pilot 2 as the RP's are better in wet(I live in Manchester)
These are top notch tyres and I hear the 3's are even better, so will probably move to them when it's time.

FZS600 Fazer / Downpipe choices
« on: 03 March 2015, 12:43:21 am »
Evening all.

Got a spot of bother regarding my downpipes.
They're original '01 pipes and I've just started to notice 2 wee pinholes in the connecting tubes between pipes1&2, and pipes 3&4 with some ticking/popping sounds coming from them. Whilst this isn't overtly annoying or 'owt, I'm reckoning on getting a replacement set soon.

Would any of you fine ladies or gentlemen be able to direct me to a place whereupon I could procure said new pipes? I've noticed a few eBay sellers offering pattern pipes for about £150-170 but not really sure about their quality.

Ta muchly, and all that malarky!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: speedometer does not work...
« on: 18 January 2015, 05:10:07 pm »
More often than not, it'll be the speedo sensor in the front that will have cracked. Even if it's a terribly small break it'll still hinder the speedo working properly. It's also a common problem with Fazers. It mostly occurs when the front wheel's been taken off and just not aligned fully when put back on.
The part to replace is generally about £15-20 so not too big a worry.
It's the bit with the lugs in the photo.

I'm liking this a fair bit.
May I ask as to what model R6 the shock came from or does that not matter?

11
Well this is annoying. I'd love the topbox and arms but I live in Manchester...
Anyone got any idea how much they'd cost to post? Or would any kind soul travelling my way be a dear and make a paid detour for me?

Mine with streetfighter style bars and headset.
Was like this when I bought it but have now got an original boxeye fairing to  bring it back to standard.

Isn't there an overnight ferry from Liverpool to Belfast anymore? There used to be! Saves on the motorway slog, costs a wee bit more than fuel & Cairnryan Ferry (Stranraer isn't on anymore) and you get a decent breakfast too!
Also, having a missus as a teacher means that she'll never have the time off for the TT...

Are you sure it's not because your wife was implanting subtle messages in your head while you slept, so that she could have the F8 all to herself?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Chain and sprockets -- easy for a novice?
« on: 19 March 2014, 02:10:47 pm »
As someone who isn't a mechanic, and doesn't have a workshop, it's not easy.
You'll need some specific tools to cut the old chain and join the new one.
But then, I have a really good mechanic and don't mind paying him the £40 to do it. Plus, he provides free cups of tea to customers so I'm sold regardless!

How much for the rack? And is the topbox in any decent state as well?

Nah Wookee, that's the pre-94 model. And mine was a red one!
Maybe that's why it was so good?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Dreaded Speedo Issues
« on: 17 March 2014, 03:17:37 am »
Regarding that rotor sensor with lugs, how thin are the lugs themselves? And is it the original item/what age is it?

I had this problem and while the sensor unit itself was fine and unbroken, the lugs were worn down and therefore not spinning in the unit. My sensor rotor was original (bike's an '51 reg) and it was just worn thin. POSSIBLY it may have been jiggled when you last had the wheel off and hence dislodged it slightly, thus causing it to wear down more than normal.

Just a thought!

I'm assuming the metal rack is a luggage type that you bungee stuff onto?
If that's the case, I wouldn't mind it!

Hmmm, so what bike does it all.....?   :pokefun      :lol

In all honesty?
I owned a '95 VFR750 ages ago and I've never had as much fun on a bike, or had one that just seemed to "fit" so nicely. Not just seating/comfort wise but a machine that was happy doing anything.
I always find myself every couple of months, scouring the small ads and ebay, seeing what's out there. If I ever get rid of my beloved Imelda for another bike, it'll more'n likely be one of those!

I also wear Altberg Clubmans.
Best damned boots I've ever worn on or off a bike. Got a used pair off Ebay(£110) about 3 years ago and they show no sign of wearing out/leaking/undoing stitching. I could easily sell them again and get my money back, if not a touch more.
Tough wearing, yet bloody comfy they are!

Any chance of letting us know what box of lights you used specifically? Or a link to where they can be purchased?
