Getting money out of Spain
« on: 19 June 2015, 07:14:32 pm »
Seeing as a few of you have Spanish properties / live in Spain...

Someone I know has money in an account at a Spanish bank. He's now living in London and would like a UK bank account so that he can have a debit & credit card in GBP.

Today we went to Santander (the bank, not the place) and they said that money could be transferred from Santander in Spain but, like money transferred from any other bank in the world, there would be charges to pay.

So is there a way to get money transferred without or with minimal charges?

iban is a flat fee iirc, so unless it's a small sum >£100 then what's the issue?

I do it the other way. From Natwest to my French account costs about £20 regardless of the amount transferred. Just use online banking and create the transfer yourself.

Alternatively, hop on a ferry to France with a Spanish cash card and with draw the Euros. You just then take them into the post office and pay a horrendous commission to convert them to £ before depositing in the bank
