General / Touring Tips and Tricks
« on: 09 May 2019, 06:19:47 pm »
I’m thinking about doing a bit of touring on the fazer thou in the north of Scotland this year.

I was planning on packing a tent and camping out mostly, but maybe the odd overnight stay in a B and B to get a “proper” sleep and shower etc.

Having never done any touring on the bike before I’m turning to the foccer font of knowledge for any tips and tricks you seasoned tourers have acquired over the years. I’m not new to camping but never with the bike.

How do you guys get round issues like the mobile phone going flat (power bank, or fit a USB charger to the bike?), what sort of tools do you pack for a week away, and what are you checking/changing on the bike for peace of mind?

Any info greatly appreciated.

Mick

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Starter motor gen 1
« on: 05 April 2019, 08:46:14 pm »
Alright chaps, starter motor is on its way out (having to rock bike in gear to get it to fire at times). I’ve got a new motor eh route from the bay. Is it a straightforward swap as I’ve not had a chance to look?

For Sale & Wanted / Sena Bluetooth headset
« on: 30 April 2016, 10:44:18 pm »
I'm selling my SMH10 Bluetooth headset. I took it off about a year ago after 4-5 uses.

Fitted it today again but still having trouble with the positioning of it on the helmet, so I'm just going to offer it up (besides, I don't ride with anyone and I don't really think I want the missus able to get hold of me when I'm out).

I'd be willing to part with it for £45 delivered to your door. Still got the box and the instruction manual too (they are a little tatty looking though as they have sat in the shed).

I can take pics for anyone who is interested but if you google it you will see what it looks like if your not sure.

Cheers

Mick

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Wing mirror troubles
« on: 30 April 2016, 03:31:55 pm »
I normally leave my bike parked up with a cover over it, but I fold the wing mirrors in to make it easier to get the cover on and off. Well today when I went to unfold the wing mirror the pivot pin only went and snapped and the bugger came off in my hand.

Can I just fire a bolt and nut through where it pivots as a repair? Even if that means I will lost the ability to pivot this one?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Exup casing maintenance
« on: 17 March 2016, 09:22:53 pm »
Has anyone on here ever painted/hammerited the exup valve casing? I cleaned my bike tonight and it struck me that the rusty dirty casing is really letting things down, so I was thinking of putting some hammerite  on there, I was concerned it might chop off quickly though and look shabbier.

Has anyone done it and what sort of results/longevity did you get. It's really bugging me :o

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Clutch rattle in neutral?
« on: 13 September 2015, 12:48:58 pm »
Seems to be mentioned a few times on here, and my fazer has just started to do it too, but I haven't read how to get rid of it yet?

Clutch is rattling only in neutral and only with the clutch out, as soon as I pull the clutch it goes away. My clutch adjustment seems fine though, so I'm not sure what to try first to remedy it, any thoughts?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Removing Tail Piece?
« on: 08 May 2015, 11:32:15 pm »
Good evening foccers!

I have had a search and come up empty, so Im hoping one of you knowledgable foccers can help. I want to remove the tail unit & grab handles from my thou so I can have them resprayed/polished up. is there a guide on here to get the things off? I assume I need to take the undertray off first then work up from there?

Oh, and has anyone ever removed a datatag before? I have one of those on my tailpiece, came on the bike, but its mounted squint and it does my head in so I would rather remove it as I havent mentioned it on my insurance anyway)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / chain and sprockets - dropping/raising teeth?
« on: 13 February 2015, 08:42:50 pm »
Good evening Foccers!

just wanted to pick the brains of you gents. My Thou is still on its original chain and sprockets, and although its only done 10k miles, its also now 10 years old, and so has some surface rust and has generally seen better days. So I want to get it changed in the next few weeks before dragging the bike out and readying it for the coming season (I've also got new tyres to go on so the wheel will be off anyway).

I was thinking of either dropping a tooth on the front, or maybe going up 1/2 teeth on the back. Although I do the odd days commuting in nice weather, most of my riding involves weekend and evening blasts up the loch side (A and B roads), and so economy is not really a factor (nor is going over about 100mph at any point). Is this a wise move - altering the amount of teeth? has anyone does either of these tweaks and what sort of change is it in real world terms? I did have a look on gearcommander, and so know what sort of "on-paper" change it shows.

I would only be doing either or I think - I dont think I would want to go as extreme as dropping a tooth at the front AND going up 1 or 2 at the rear.

Finally, can anyone recomment a good chain? I fancy a gold one like I put on my old 600 fazer, as I think they look nicer  :o :rolleyes .

Thanks as always :)

Most of you will probably know about this, but I figured it would be worthhile flinging a thread up for anyone who missed this change which is coming. It seems next in line for the paper cull after the tax disk, is the paper counterpart of the driving license:

« on: 30 September 2014, 05:40:36 pm »
I just acquired this movie from a mate - Road the movie. Its basically the story of the Dunlop family. quite a good watch, well narrated (considering its narrated by Liam Neeson).

best watched with a couple of beers  :)

« on: 08 August 2014, 09:29:54 pm »
Guys,

I'm looking for the OEM tool pouch and tools for the FZS1000. It appears my bike never came with it, so I would quite like one to keep under the seat, and the spark plug socket would probably be handy as well :)

Hopefully one of you fine gents has a spare one knocking about you dont mind parting with for some beer tokens.
