General / Re: petrol stations and lids
« on: 24 March 2014, 07:16:27 pm »
God this is a moany old person thread  :lol

I'm pretty sure this has all been said before in this thread so I don't hold much hope of changing minds etc.

let's assess. We don't want to bother taking our helmets off because it wastes time, so we'll take extra long to then take them off/ put them back on to annoy someone that's paid by the hour?

The person behind the till doesn't make the rules, the person behind the till doesn't care if you rob them or not - paid by the hour.

The people you're holding up in the queue don't have anything to do with it, they've got lives to get on with and they won't think
'God this petrol station is annoying because this biker is making me wait'
They'll think
'God all bikers are annoying because this biker is making me wait'.

If the till jockey is new or inexperienced, you'll ruin their day for something their employers tell them to ask.
If the till jockey has been doing the job a while, they won't give a flying monkeys how long you take, they're paid by the hour.

I can understand the 'I'm not going there again' school of thought, but why waste your time, their time, everybody's time in doing so?

Reverse rant over, carry on.
(Oh, I got asked for ID for alcohol, I'm so annoyed that I'm going to take ages showing them my ID, pay in pennies and call the cashier a trollop, despite them being threatened with their jobs if they don't ask)

(Ok, now rant over)

General / Re: Safety when selling?
« on: 24 March 2014, 06:52:00 pm »
I took my wife and left her behind .

A good trade?

All as above, when my brother sold his car he made sure the time of the selling was signed on both 'receipts', helps stop speed cameras etc.

It can get a bit confusing if they bring a mate or whatever, still take cash/ID (real) even if they suggest they just leave their mate - he could run faster than you!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Invanising and Exhaust
« on: 01 March 2014, 05:56:40 pm »
My 2p worth,
full monty with a blueflame exhaust which has two baffles. all out doesn't feel any different to just having one out (how I use it)
but if I have both in, I really notice, hitting a massive dip in power at about 3000rpm.
I only ever have both in on the way to MOT though, so doesn't really affect me.
This is all seat of pants stuff, no figures or anything to back it up

General / Re: Has anyone used NIKONE caliper seals?
« on: 11 February 2014, 05:42:47 pm »
What are the general feelings about replacing non leaking brake seals?
According to the service book, every 2 years fluid and seal replacement which seems slightly excessive to me.

I'm thinking a fluid change and a good clean

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: FZS1000 - FZS600 How much longer is it ?
« on: 03 December 2013, 11:00:40 pm »
The Haynes manual puts the FZS1000 at 2125mm from the tip of the exhaust to the front of the front tyre
it's also 765mm wide apparently :)

As far as I know they've all sold out, £600 odd on ebay...
also, any preorders now aren't guaranteed before xmas
Best bet is waiting until after Xmas

if they wanted a ps4 however...
ebay number 151177687866

(Yes, this is a shameless plug)

« on: 25 August 2013, 07:28:42 pm »
Both side would have to be both dead even so as to not upset the bike just before throwing it into a bend... would perhaps work in a straight line, but not sure it'd be too good mid corner!

Thanks for the replies, sorry about the late looking though!

I'm going to get there early and have a little wander round during practice etc but I'll defo be going to the grandstand mentioned :)

Thanks again

« on: 08 July 2013, 01:34:58 pm »
The other side of the story, I was driving in New Zealand with two motorcycles coming towards me, straight road, lights on noone going fast etc.
All of a sudden the bloke on the 'big' bike decides he's going to overtake the smaller bike (part of a group), he just doesn't see the 1.8L mazda 6 coming towards him?
A massive swerve into the grass on the side of the road, any further I'd have been in a ditch at 40mph and I hoped I wouldn't have silver fairing all over my windscreen...

Point being, there are idiots everywhere!

Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) / Silverstone Moto GP
« on: 04 July 2013, 11:05:14 am »
Just booked my tickets!
Now I have some questions...
I've never been to Silverstone, where would be the best place to try and get? F1 websites come up a lot saying Stowe Corner?

Also, any ideas when I should be trying to get there? based in kent, so looking at about 2 hours to get there :o

Thanks
Tom

« on: 10 June 2013, 09:19:40 am »
If he's tall I suggest looking at the Yamaha DT125R, I had one, paid £2000 for it and sold it for £1500 back to the shop, so pretty good at holding value if doing it all privately, also apparently known for being one of the quicker 125s so you'll always find buyers.
 oh, and it's a 2 stroke  :sun

General / Re: Temporary Insurance?
« on: 31 May 2013, 11:21:57 am »
full policy and cancel it?
My brother did this because he thought his insurance ran out sooner than it did, after the refund it cost less than temp insurance.

That was with MCE, he did have to pay admin fee, but it still worked out cheaper :)

General / Re: Time for new mobile phone contract
« on: 20 May 2013, 09:53:23 am »
Depends on usage!
I've 500mb and it doesn't inhibit my usage.
But I've got WiFi both at home and at work, so I never need to use it too much.

Hope that helps anyway!

Well my secondary whine is that it's the only motorbike related thing people at work talk/know about, BSB and WSB both being far less in the public eye.
Now all the conversation motorcycle related goes like this:
'their all idiots, one of them killed himself on that corner near my house a few years ago'

:\

Skippernick, you're far more bad ass than me!

Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) / Moto GP BT sport
« on: 10 May 2013, 03:31:17 pm »
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/motogp/22464311
great, now I have to either go and get BT broadband at £10 a month (£15 to get more than 10mb a month (needed if I intend to watch the moto gp on bt sport))(£30 if you include line rental) or sky for £20 a month + £15 for BT sport....

That's £360 a year, an extra £60 that what I currently pay for phone and internet
Or I'll not watch it ever again :\

Oh well, it was nice whilst it lasted!

No, there isn't a point to this thread, just me having a moan :)

I'd be cautious of paying the same price as a 'normal' bike, thinking of eventual resale value. Whether rightly or wrongly, a vehicle that's been written off is worth less.

Well done the seller for saying in the listing it's been written off, there's no legal reason to put it. You only have to state it if asked, don't have to volunteer the info!

Mine did this, a quick email to oxford and sent the kit off for inspection (no receipt) and they said yup, switch is gone, here's a new one.

Worth a try :)

« on: 16 April 2013, 01:04:23 pm »
Makes you feel a bit manly in my opinion, giving it a little blip to start it.

Makes it mean more than starting a car, makes me feel like I'm involved more.

Not like it's difficult  :D

Makes me feel like a pro at starting my bike anyway...

hmm, a better investment might be in fuel lines and tanks!

I thought I'd read in MCN that Yamaha claim our bikes are ok with E10? They said anything after 2000 or 1990, can't remember, but I know my 04 plate is safe :)
yamaha france are advising NOT to use E10 until yhey've done further tests
damn the french :\
Easy to convert to diesel? might stick some pedals on it...

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: fuel economy question

I think it's all a bit relative?
Work out what yours is at the moment using fuelly then take a chunk off to account for luggage, extra person, strange roads won't be as smooth etc.

+1 on the Sunday, and don't get on the ferry nearly dry, first petrol station on the motorway from Calais is a long way... I turned off with an empty tank and managed to find somewhere, wasn't fun though!

The down side the thing eats it's own battery.

I find that if I'm dipping in and out of signal, my phone dies in minutes, might be worth putting it into air plane mode, then it stays on and locked :)
it'll last days and days in air plane mode.

My desire HD has a quick switch for air plane mode, makes it easy

getting back to subject -
You didn't want to wait for the s4 then?

General / Re: specticle wearers
« on: 18 March 2013, 06:05:38 pm »
I've never had a problem physically putting them on, although I would make sure not to use thick frames, mine flex a bit when wearing them.

I really recommend contact lenses, especially if you're not used to the reduced peripheral vision that the small glasses limit you to.

In terms of fogging, I just keep the visor up a little bit, the glasses shield your eyes from a lot of wind blast, so it's not as bad as you might think.

I have heard mention the flip front helmets are easier to use with glasses, I've had one and didn't notice much difference, I ended up just using it as a normal helmet because it was much more fiddly to work the mechanism!

Hope that helps from a life long glasses wearer!

I just got back from 5 months in New Zealand, the gf and I both got N&P accounts. They don't charge for withdrawals abroad and use a very good exchange rate!

Probably a bit of overkill for a short trip though, think you have to have 3 transactions a month or they charge you a fiver...

If you do use a card that charges, make sure you take a wad out :)
