Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Swinging arm re greasing
« on: 27 October 2011, 10:03:34 am »
I did it recently, follow haynes manual - all becomes clear :)
Main thing it doesn't say in the haynes is that you'll need a 27mm socket :) get  32mm for the rear spindle too...

It' a good idea to grease up the suspension linkages/rear shock as well, you need to take them out before the swingarm anyway :)

I found you don't need to remove the silver frame protectors by the footpegs, it'll all come out anyway :) (good for me because there's a rounded bolt :( )
I didn't need a new grease seal for the swingarm, but you may, I'd only done 16,000 miles

Oh, it's much easier if you can find someone to help as well, the swingarm's pretty light, but still easier to have someone to move chain out of the way, push bolts through etc..

Hope that helps,

any questions just send me a pm and I'll try and help :)

Tom

I found with that bolt it was easier to hold the nut with a spanner and get someone to undo the other side with the ratchet, much better access and had no problems.
Not recommended for all of them though, think one of the bolts has a really shallow head...

I should probably stipulate, I'm getting the train, not riding.

wouldn't want to start a debate about reading pratchett whilst riding... :)

Mine says standard to save me the extra £500 they all wanted... It also doesn't have a topbox, scottoiller, engine bars and braided hoses...

Mine came today, I ordered it when I posted on here, so not too bad.

Not put it in yet, but it looks good quality and sticks to the inside of the window which is pretty useful

My dad had it in his FJR, had a problem with balancing and no garage will balance the wheel because of the gunk in it (not sure which one he had)

Not sure if it was because the wheel may have been out of balance before hand or anything, but only way of getting round it was a new tyre :\

Thanks, got the socket today on the way back from work :)

I'm not local enough I'm afraid, especially with a rear wheel missing  :lol but thank you for the offer.

Looks like I'll have it all apart then, which means EVERYTHING will be covered in grease :)

Thank you again,

Tom

« on: 08 October 2011, 11:15:01 am »
Hi, going to grease my swingarm bearings and such, but before I go to halfords an buy every socket between 25 and 32, can someone tell me what size the nut is? :)

Also, do i need to take the swingarm off completely? I've already greased the suspension etc, and got the rear wheel off :)

Thanks
Tom

My first one i sent back, think they extended the warranty from 1 year to 3 years if it's regarding the overheating. they accept it was a stupid design.
Got a new one back within two weeks and hadn't had a problem for years... until last week :\

Just bought a new one as they're so much better now and I intend to keep it for a few years anyway :)

did look at the ps3, but realised i've got 10+ xbox games sitting on me shelf  :lol

Still might be worth sending the broken one away and seeing what they say? if they can't/won't do it for free, tell em to keep it

Nah, not a problem if it's a Hornet, the owner probably wanted rid of it :)

A yamaha on the other hand...

Yeah applecross campsite is nice, not too close to the water to attract the flying devils, but close enough for the views :)
do be careful on the pass though, your pillion might slap you round the helmet (head) shouting about 'going back and taking a picture of that goat'
It wasn't a goat, it was a deer :\ we went back and spent far too long taking identical photos of it :)

Turning round on that pass = trusting to hope noone's going to come flying round the corners whilst you're doing a 5 point turn in one of the passing places  :lol

I don't really know all there is to know about this type of thing, way i see it:

if you just used weak springs to oppose the air pressure that pushes them up (only enough to push the wheels down, not enough to push the bike up) then it wouldn't matter if the bad boys dropped mid corner..., they wouldn't do anything until you got the bike upright. maybe have some sort of physical lock such as a pin on a cable attached to the handlebars? (i'm thinking like the catch on dollys of milk you see in supermarkets) for when the wheels are fully extended.

Or that might be completely in the wrong direction :)

Call me Anal but wouldn't this be better in the General section?

Anal :)

Think the 99% of germs thing is because it's bleach - it kills everything, but they have to cover themselves in case you eat out your toilet and get a disease...

Is it any quiter than the raid2?
looked at these myself for a while before reminding myself i don't need a new helmet :)

Do be careful with advisories, some insurance companies will use it to get out of paying  :eek

If you read the back of your MOT cert, it says not sorting advisories may leave you uninsured... or summat :/

But as you say, it depends on the mechanic and might not be an advisory next time...

Play on..

so set the limit to 99mph?  :lol

Every supermarket I've worked in/spoken too has some sort of curfew in place which always seemed silly to me, you don't want lorries clogging up the place during the day...

yeah - helping the economy = spending more at the petrol pumps where it's mostly tax... giving the government more money :) so they can decide next year 110mph is probably safe...

two years ago - vauxhall corsa '98
mum's old car she couldn't get rid of - cat c written off at some point
first car and first experience of getting somewhere and not having to take of an extra skin of motorcycle clothing...

Gave it to my friend for scrap value who gave it to his sister when he realised just how bad it was.... mould growing over the rear seats (him, not me!), no interior fan, had to rev the engine when starting. I called it character, he called it annoying and bought a brand new suzuki swift...

Make trucks ony use the roads between 10pm and 6am.

Would be a good idea, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere near a supermarket getting deliveries throughout the night...

Make at least 5 lanes per direction on all motorways, speed limit per group of lanes? ie. lanes 1&2 between 60-75, lanes 3&4 70-90, lane 5 - motorbikes with fazer written on them, unlimited :)
