For Sale & Wanted / WANTED: FZS600 Nose Cone (Boxeye)
« on: 18 August 2015, 12:04:57 am »
I'm looking for the complete nose cone (and probably bracket too) for a 2000 fzs600. Potentially the whole section including headlight unit if the price is okay!

I've been looking for about a year now but they seem to be so hard to get hold of for some reason?! Is it possible to put on the fzs1000 fairing? I considered the foxeye conversion but they also seem really hard to get hold of.

FZS600 Fazer / Stripping/Rebuilding Fazer
« on: 23 August 2014, 10:12:49 pm »
After a year or so of sitting dormant, I'm finally getting around to returning my FZS600 to it's former glory.

I know very little about the mechanics of the bike, but I enjoy a good challenge! I had the bike MOT'd yesterday, planning on using the failure points as places to look at on the bike, yet somehow it passed?! Just an advisory about pitting on the forks.

I was wondering if anyone could help with a couple of the places I should give the most attention. I was planning on doing the filters, carbs and downpipes as the bike seems to drop power when the throttle is opened up (I've seen a couple of threads mentioning it). There seems to be exhaust fumes leaking from the link pipe (I think it is, between exhaust can and downpipes) as well. I'll be fully rebuilding and replacing fairing, so any ideal places to upgrade may be worth looking at also!

Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all!

Introduction / Hello (again!)
« on: 23 August 2014, 08:18:02 pm »
Hey everyone

Not technically a new member.. joined a couple of years ago just after getting my FZS600, but due to a knee injury I had to stop riding.

Now I'm back to it, and rebuilding my bike up to the glory it deserves, so thought I'd re-introduce myself as I'm hoping to be on here a little more!

I'm living in Hampshire (on the Surrey border) but going back up to University in Loughborough soon, I've seen a fair few Fazers about in both of these places, so may even get to see some of you out on the road!

I'm planning on selling the bike next year, when it's back to it's best, but don't worry, it'll hopefully be replaced with a FZ1 :)

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted - FZS 600 Can, Fairings and Downpipes
« on: 21 August 2014, 11:56:18 pm »
Hi all

Looking to rebuild my bike up to a condition it deserves! I'm looking for an original/standard can for the bike, as well as nose cone and tail fairings.

The bike is the 2000 5DM model - not too fussed about colour (and condition within reason...Student afterall) as I will be respraying it blue anyways.

I'm also looking for some stainless downpipes if possible!

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted: Fzs600 fairings
« on: 06 April 2014, 08:48:30 pm »
I had a bit of a slide on my bike last night, and the front and rear fairing is no longer all there (I've attached pictures, will take more in the light tomorrow..)

The bike is a fzs600 2000 model, in the red/black colour

I was wondering if anyone has a new front fairing (my screen has stayed intact) - Mine is red, but looking to go to blue if anyone has any. I also need the small piece of fairing beneath the seat at the rear of the bike, left hand side (or both in blue) and a new mirror for the left hand side.

If anyone has any, please reply on here or pm me, the condition doesn't have to be perfect!

Alternatively, I saw a post saying that the foxeye cowling is reduced with Yamaha direct, does anyone know if this applies to the pre-foxeye model? (I'll be contacting them tomorrow to find out anyway)

Thanks!

FZS600 Fazer / Bike unused for a while - a few problems!
« on: 02 May 2013, 06:49:34 pm »
Hi,

I've not ridden my bike in over a month now due to a knee injury, but I finally managed to get it out, in time for the sunny days to go for a ride. I expected the battery to be dead and put it on charge for a while, but it still needed jumping to start.
Checked the oil, chain etc and set out gently on it, but after a couple of miles the dials and odometer stopped working intermittently (Mainly when I accelerated..) and then they cut out completely, and only showed back up briefly when I indicated.

It also started running on (I think 3 cylinders, and then 2 at some points) And I had no power to accelerate. I'd turned back home but along the dual carriageway I must've only been able to do 50 or so (I couldn't tell speed..) in top gear, and everytime I accelerated the engine started braking and I lost speed, and what acceleration I could get was really jerky, so I coaxed it home. It had to be bump started a few times as well, as the revs just dropped off completely and it lost all power. It was backfiring a few times too, the worst being when I changed down after losing most power.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what it could be? I'm new to motorbikes so have plenty to learn.. I'm guessing the power may have something to do with the alternator, but even when I put the battery on charge it still seems to have no power. If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it as I'm pretty stumped!!

Thanks!

FZS600 Fazer / touring luggage
« on: 07 February 2013, 02:19:30 pm »
This Easter I'm going to be supporting a mate in a race, which involves carrying a fair amount of stuff around! I already have panniers, with what I believe to be the sw motech rack, but I am looking at getting a tank bag, or top box, or both!
I'm not overly knowledgeable on it, but have been led to believe it can be hard to find the right ones. I've looked at shops, but can't really make sense of what they say.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about what to look for, or any specific ones!

I'm also touring Europe in summer, so looking for a decent size!

FZS600 Fazer / Acceleration Problems
« on: 01 February 2013, 08:55:11 pm »
I bought my Fazer in November, its my first bike, so I'm learning as I go!

I've found though, that as I go to accelerate from about 5000/6000 revs that it initially accelerates fast, but then seems to lose power. It makes a grumbling sort of noise, and vibrates, and eventually (sometimes) it accelerates again. I'm not snapping round the throttle, I'm turning it slowly, but it has proved to be awkward on several overtakes now!

It doesn't always happen either, it always seems to be when it's more inconvenient.

People have suggested it's the carbs flooding, or the tuning of them. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what it could be? I'm recovering from a knee injury so can't ride, so now is the perfect time to try and sort all the problems out and keep me sane!

Thanks for any help

FZS600 Fazer / Trying to Identify my Immobiliser
« on: 24 November 2012, 04:44:12 pm »
On thursday my bike (reasonably new to me) decided it wasn't going to start. After taking as much off and checking with the tools I could, I'm convinced it's the immobiliser doing it's job. It just won't 'mobilise.' I've tried bridging the starting relay and the starter motor will turn over, but there's no ignition.

I have no idea what the immobiliser is, all I can find is a Mitsubishi-like logo on the immobiliser box, which I've not yet been able to take off the bike. I've spent hours looking on the internet to try and find out what it is, so I can look to sorting it out, but have found nothing.

I was wondering if anyone here has any idea what the immobiliser is? I've attached a photo of the key fob, which looks like the cobra ones, but i've not been able to find the exact one; maybe it was discontinued, but I can't find any details. If anyone is able to help, I'd really appreciate it! I'm desperate to fix it to make getting to work that much easier.

Incase it helps, it's a 2000 FZS600, and I believe an aftermarket immobiliser

Thanks,

Steve

Hey everyone,

Just passed my DAS last week, and have gone and bought myself a FZS600 :)

New to riding myself, been caged up until now, and will most likely need some advice along the way!

I'm based in Hampshire, and will be hoping to get out riding as much as possible.

Cheers all,

Steve
