For Sale & Wanted / Re: wanted, Rizoma rearsets 2005 FZS1000
« on: 22 August 2012, 06:05:59 pm »
Yes they do them for the ,06 onwards, but they also listed em for the Gen 1,s >05. trouble is no-one seems to have any stock left, and the later ones are too different to just make a new attachment plate, i emailed Rizoma, and Moores, the UK importers as mayte there were some odd sets left, but either they could,nt be bothered or have sold every last set they made. Must be some somewhere, as I can,t find any others I,d spend my cash on.

I got just short of 12,000 from my first set of  PR2.s had Michelin in to have a look as they were still not illegal, just a tad squared off, even the front had a small flat spot. put a new pair on and 5,000 odd later, the rear is just starting to get a slight flat, so looks like these,ll do similar mileage. must add that I ride solo, but briskly (according to Heddlu anyway) and several times a year with full luggage and camping gear.

Never had my oil light come on whilst engine running, and , yes it does work, also I find that if I fill the engine above halfway between level marks, the clutch drags terribly, causing a loud clunk when engaging first, halfway and all is smooth.

Be very aware that correct cable tensioning is important, if anything err on the slack side, as too tight cables will drastically increase wear on the pulley end, lubricated or not..

I,m off out to check mine now, I've got both heated gloves and jacket plus sat-nav added to mine, You'd think Yamaha would own up to this potentially serious hazard, as it could cause a fire whilst riding, or a breakdown, which if it occurs on a busy road the consequences are extermely scary!!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: rear shock knackered.... advice please.
« on: 29 December 2011, 12:39:17 pm »
I changed my shock for a quality one, 3 years ago, and after carefully setting it up never changed the preload from solo to loaded with camping gear. if you have high and low speed damping that will cope with just about anything. Also it makes a vast difference in the handling, its far far better. Only slight problem I encountered was that the front did'nt live up to the rear, so had the forks reworked by K-Tech, it's now a very smooth, fast bike, just like it shoulda been in the first place..  just add some bling.. over to you Luke.. 8)

On mine, you can specify the MAC addresses the rooter will accept, and no others, plus the password key.

Just stop.. I did, 22 years and counting, seen too many "trying" to stop with placebos, just realise what it does to your health and quit.. sorry rant over.. :evil

General / Re: Motorcycles in bus lanes - be careful what you believe!
« on: 28 December 2011, 02:02:41 pm »
They had a trial run on this subject, in Derby, but only included the ones that did'nt really work. then said the trial was a failure and just dropped it..  Why can't motorcycles just be allowed to use bus lanes everywhere, there is no valid reason that i can think of for not. No obstructing if breakdown occurs, just push out of the way, and in my experience there's not enough buses to fill the lanes anyway. pay your road tax, use the roads..   :\

Loud is good, stopped by the Welsh constabulary, never said a word about my (lack of ) exhaust, was too busy accusing me of doing 91mph, in tandem with my brother, who also has a Eurofighter  loud can on, when the evidence shows us doing 69!! Dunno how the Spanish law would look on it, maybe havta find out next summer..  Ola!

Undo it before you take off the chain, either with a an impact wrench (recommended) or put a piece of 2 by 4 through the wheel over the top of the swingar, wrap it in rags to make doubly sure it does'nt scratch anything, works for me..   :)

« on: 28 December 2011, 12:07:00 pm »
I agree, had the same problem, just make sure there's plenty of grease in the bearings, maybe someone will find a shop willing to make up some spacer/sleeves a tiny bit bigger in diameter that would cure the problem, by taking out the play between the spacers and the bearings, or am I being too fussy?   :lol

oooooh thats not good, have you checked the main earths?, how much current is coming and going from the rectifier, about 45 to 50 volts from the alternator, and 13.5 to 14.8 should come out of rectifier, although if the current coming out of the rectifier is too high, then the battery or some bulbs would go pop. had a similar problem years ago on one of my cars, blew all the bulbs currently switched on, and the smell of boiling battery acid is rank!! :eek

« on: 28 December 2011, 11:56:36 am »
Hi, this should'nt happen in the real world, but are you using 1/2 in drive stuff, I only ever use 3/8 sockets and ratchets, because of the lower torque settings for most motorcycle bolts. and always hex sockets so you don't round off the corners. I've had my shock linkage off several times and not had this problem, maybe someone overtightened them before you got it. most Jap m/c bolts are fine thread, these being 10mm x 1.25 I think, but stand corrected, no doubt the God of the Fazer (sorry Mike, how are you BTW?) would tell us. Replacements are cheap, but probably unobtainable until next week, which is no help, maybe the local hardware shop has some similar, just so long as they are high grade steel. hope this is of some help. Pete..

Check out the big connector situated under the left hand fairing infill panel, mine got water in it, it caused the neutral light to stay on, even in gear, but it also feeds everything forward of the tank.

« on: 06 October 2011, 01:28:49 pm »
Always bear in mind that someone may have dismantled the clutch before and put the wrong part back, had this recently on my brothers ex-ebay cheap cb500, it would'nt set off without judder and jerk, so pulled it to bits, it has similar parts to the fazer and both were as part no 2! put the right bits back and its now fine..  If anything, i would put the washers back in with no1 facing no 2 ..  good luck!! :rolleyes

Could'nt some of our more highly educated members rustle up some outline responses for us lesser mortals, please don't think I'm generalising here, but as it affects me, and all my motorcycling brotherhood, I've had a look at the proposals, and to be honest, I'm a bit overwhelmed with them, but wishing to add my response in a formative way, I need some help? The idea that we could at least put up some form of "protest" at this level seems to be a way to go. Otherwise i can see us being landed with all alike looking machines, whisper quiet and with breathable exhaust fumes! Just look at the modern car, all lookee likee! My car is so quiet when moving around car parks at low speed, pedestrians just veer in front cos they don't hear me coming, hence all my bikes run with the noisiest exhaust I can get away with!! :evil

Bear in mind that the air gap is the priority, some slight variation in capacity is secondary..

On my manual it shows the flat spring plate on the hub first, with the concave shaped one on next, with the inner edge touching that one, sort of like this / , does that make sense, i could probably send you a page from the manual? see if i can give it a go.. :lol

« on: 04 October 2011, 12:21:01 pm »
Beware aftermarket HID kits, there was a discussion some while ago, when the EU rulemakers hinted that they would outlaw these kits as they sem to throw out dazzling light that is not controlled in the way that bulbs are, particularly on dip beam, and as such are an automatic MOT failure, I find that my standard Fazer lights are good enough for reasonable progress in the dark, always bear in mind that you could dazzle the vehicle approaching you, with possible dire consequences..

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Link Pipe fazer 1000 Gen1
« on: 01 October 2011, 12:54:55 pm »
Yup, my Scorpion link pipe was a tight push fit on the collector box end, never had problems with it, if its a bit loose, put some exhaust paste on before attaching it, the silencer and its bracket will hold it in place. When i changed to a MIVV can, the link pipe did have clamps both ends. If you're not happy, you could always cut a couple of slots and fit a clamp..
