« on: 06 February 2020, 08:27:18 pm »
Fitting the needle roller bearing didn't go well :'( . The length of studding plan failed. I'd left the bearing overnight in the freezer, which I was not totally happy about, but half expected it to drop in after heating the hub. Can't be sure how much stress I put on it trying to press it in, so have ordered a replacement to be on the safeside.

Rear ended by an Audi A4 on a roundabout a week odd ago. Bike could have been written off but Stormbringer wants it repaired. Was on a loan bike for the Le Touquet trip.

Maybe your daughter should give him the Spanish archer. No doubt then a lot less hassle all round. :)

The MCN offer is for the supposed new 9 heat setting model that has problems. Pretty certain Ogri has had grief with this set up. I'd rather have the tried and tested 50 quid job. :)

Well and truly rinsed for £35...even the receptionist could do that in 5 mins with all the right tackle
I nearly walked out and left him with the bars. Apparently workshop time is £70 an hour, minimum charge half an hour. Should have asked first I suppose, but thought it was a 5 minute job and would be priced accordingly. Lesson learnt, for sure. :'(

Tyres are on, waiting for some Loctite bearing fit, which should be here tomorrow. Then back to the tyre fitters for balancing. I'd never used Oponeo for tyres before, but got the Roadtec 01's for £205 with £14.50 for fitting. Quite happy with that. Dragon Rally this weekend so nothing much will get done until Monday I expect.

If you have access to an engineering workshop, I believe the proper way is to predrill the bars before tapping them. My pal on the otherhand just wound the tap into the bar and it worked out fine. I paid for the workshop process to the tune of £35 :eek . My pals bars cost him a pint in the pub. :lol  Pretty sure the 1.5 x the tap size is the same as 16tpi, but stand to be corrected :) .

and yes, that vice (much like any poor cow who has been my partner for any length of time), has been through an awful lot...
Yeah, it looks like it's got more than its fair share of stories to tell :lol .

Stormbringer, thanks for suggesting this trip, really enjoyed it despite the mornings rain, which was expected, so everyone was suitably attired. Excellent turn out by the French despite the weather and fortunately the rain stopped well in time for racing. Hope you're happy with your FZ8 when you get it back. :thumbup

« on: 03 February 2020, 10:53:33 am »
Yep agree. The smaller front sprocket shortens chain life by lessening the radius it travels around, but it's the cheapest most instant fix. When it's chain change time I'd rather go 3 teeth on the back sprocket if lower gearing was needed.

Nice job for Jorge, no pressure or expectations whilst helping to develop a bike he knows he'll enjoy and be happy with. May even get the odd wildcard, who knows.
Yamaha are obviously looking to the future, and that is France's young gun. Maybe this year Vale makes the "big" decision.

Abba always discount them at the Peterborough Show, what used to be the BMF rally, but that's not until May sometime.

The fitting kits are only around 18 quid, so not the end of the world. The best feature is as I posted earlier the ability to access underneath the bike. It folds away quite compactly, so you get back your garage floorspace when it's not required.
