For Sale & Wanted / Yamaha FZS 1000 Barkbuster Storm hand guards
« on: 28 September 2021, 01:53:46 pm »

Perfect time of the year for these.

These are the Storm 22mm single point fitting version. I had these on my 2004 FZS1000 for about 500 miles then sadly sold the bike. Reading through they fit from 2001-2005. There are a couple of marks on them via storage as hindsight been a brilliant thing, I should have fully dismantled them and put them back in the original packaging. No cracks or splits.

Ideally cash on collection and from nr Basingstoke, north Hampshire.

£65

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / New to me Gen 1 - Need a few accessories.
« on: 03 September 2019, 07:28:09 pm »
1. MRA screen is cr4p so would like another one - I had the Yamaha touring screens on my previous FZ1's that were fine so what is that equivalent? I have the standard screen but not tried it yet but to be fair can't see it been any better.

2. Crash bungs

General / Question for MT10 owners.

How are your bikes holding up for age related wear and tear?

I'm debating to go back to an FZ1S or to get a 16 plate 10. After seeing how my Tracer 900 has taken to the UK weather/roads with a fair bit of corrosion, rusty bolts, etc, I thought I'd see how yours were doing.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Tyre query on an FZ1
« on: 13 August 2016, 04:08:18 pm »
I bought this one last year on 15k miles and it's now done just over 22k. When I bought it, it had Bridgestone BT16's - skittish in the wet and cold but awesome in the dry. I changed the tyres in March at 18k to PR4's as the 16's were nearly shot and noticed that - although I hate the words "chicken strip" - that they're no where near the edge unlike the BT 16's. Nor how they were on my last bike, a Sprint 1050.

Just wondered if anyone else has found the hype to them unfounded. I'm thinking of ditching them for Bridgestone. Is it the S or T 20's? These just feel a bit too pointy for my liking. I'm not a knee down person but nor do I ride it upright all the time and i like my twisty roads as opposed to cr4p motorways.

Edited to add the edges show about 1.5/2cm.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZ1s Screens
« on: 21 April 2016, 09:53:12 am »
Done a 300 miles ride out yesterday with some of it been motorway - I know they suck but I usually give them a wide berth as I hate them on a bike. Yesterday was quite windy so it probably emphasised the noise a lot more.

Anyway, I have the standard screen and this morning I feel knackered. I'm 5' 11 and the wind was on my chest and shoulders. I have noticed the wind blast before but not to this extreme. Now I don't want to go out and starting buying screens like there going out of fashion but could really do with something more comfortable. What screen are you lot using on a Gen 2?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Chain oiler
« on: 16 April 2016, 12:00:21 pm »
I'm possibly looking at adding a chain oiler to the bike. I had a Tutoro on my last one and once I set it up it seemed to do the job well enough. Just wondered where people have there's fitted so it's secure and not likely to get in the way of me or my pilly.

General / Second bike options
« on: 12 April 2016, 08:29:18 pm »
As much as I love my FZ1 and the music the exhaust makes, I find that I wind it on a bit too much at times  :eek  and do it more often that not. Prior to this bike I had a Sprint 1050 but hated the service prices, riding position (even with bar risers) expensive add on extras but liked the fuel range and sound of the triple motor.

Thinking of another or second bike like a Vstrom, Tracer, Tiger or something along those lines as I prefer upright position. The Fazer is ok for about 90 minutes then I need to stretch my legs. Not looking for the fastest bike on the planet but something with a good fuel range would be handy and I'd like the option to throw a top box, tank bag and panniers on and disappear for a couple of days with the wife and equally some spirited riding when I'm on my own. I've looked on quite a few different forums but like us, there a bias bunch  :)

For those of you who have a second bike or have left the fold what have you got or end up buying next. Probably looking at up to about £8k

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Stripped thread on sump
« on: 12 April 2016, 03:12:49 pm »
Undoing the sump plug to do an oil/filter change and I could see some threads on the sump plug. Drained the oil and checked the sump and sure enough the sump has stripped some threads and the plug won't tighten back into the sump tray.

I've called the thread doctor and he can't do it this week and I'm not confident in getting a heli coil kit and trying it myself. Does anyone know of anyone nr Basingstoke that can help out?

FZ6 / Fazer / Chain adjustment and rear wheel alignment
« on: 16 March 2015, 07:08:18 pm »
I done a search for chain adjusting and rear wheel alignment but most of the ones I found related to the S2 and not the 2004-2006 FZ6s and the have very different swing arms.

I read this http://www.manualslib.com/manual/805140/Yamaha-Fz6-Ss.html?page=125#manual and decided that mine at 35mm was too tight.

I undone the axle nut and loosened off the chain and adjusted it to 50mm. Am I correct in stating this is done by measuring it at it's highest point to it's lowest point at the tight spot?

When I set it to that and done up the lock nut the right side of the wheel (brake side) was showing some thread and the nuts weren't snug to the arm. I undone the axle nut again and pushed the wheel to what seemed more accurate and done it up and that levelled it off. Does that often happen?

I measured the distance from the axle nut washer to the end of the arm and both were pretty much spot on. I then measured with a digital caliper the distance from the arm to the end of the adjuster and they were both much the same as well.

After all that waffle is measuring the distance from the end of the arm to the end of the adjuster bolt an accurate way to do it? I wasn't sure I was over thinking the simplest of things of just adjusting a chain and re aligning the rear wheel.

FZ6 / Fazer / Crash helmet lock
« on: 23 February 2015, 10:33:45 pm »
What's the best way to secure crash lid to the bike when you can't be bothered to lug it around. It's an 04 FZ6S. I done a quick google and came across one way where someone used a wire cable and hooked and locked onto the rear peg but they did say if it rained water would find it's way in.

FZ6 / Fazer / Luggage and 12v adaptor question
« on: 28 January 2015, 07:09:54 pm »
Just wondered if someone could shed some light on luggage and 12v adaptor fittings. I really like the bike and now we're back from holiday I fancy doing a few ride outs - the added bonus of working from home comes in handy  :) I've only managed to clock up 1200 local'ish miles since September having returned back and fancy clocking up a few more than that  8)

Thinking of getting a box and maybe some panniers with the box preferably having a back rest on it - so the wife can come out to play as well - hopefully she'll get over here fear of falling off the back. Looking at some makes is a bit of a mine field and with some people preferring certain makes, fitting kits, etc. I pretty much want to be able to store 2 lids and a few other bits and pieces in it but also looking at something that is fairly easy to remove if and when. does anyone have experience of a certain make that holds up that won't break the bank?

Also, I've got what looks like some kind of charging point that is connected directly to the battery - not 100% sure as I've not looked directly at the battery and just assuming it is, as it has optimiser/optimate (?) written on it. Just thinking it would be handy to have a hook up point for maybe my phone/ twat nav, etc and wondered what my options are?

I did think about fitting a 12v cigarette lighter in the fairing but not to keen on drilling out the fairing.....

FZ6 / Fazer / Loose mirror
« on: 16 December 2014, 09:29:39 am »
Just wondered if anyone can advise how to tighten up the mirror on an 04 FZ6S?

I tried squeezing past the bike (it was in a tight gap, honest  :) ) the other day and now there's a fair bit of play in the mirror arm. I've took the rubber off and had a quick look but can't see anyway to tighten it up.
