Mine and I have noticed a few other insurances are set to auto renew and they take the money from the card details held, not good.

Yes, you have to be on the ball now and ring them up to cancel the auto renewal. If you forget (like my son) it becomes too much of a ball ache to sort out the mess afterwards. So this year they got him, next year they won't - as long as he doesn't forget again...
Also it is best if you don't leave it to the last minute, so ring up at least a week in advance.

I am looking into the viability of solar.
Just getting my head around the figures needed to run a house is kind of mind blowing.
My mate runs a 2.8 Kva Honda now as it's a lot quieter than the larger one - how he lives with that set-up I'll never know, far too basic for me.
I know a bit about electrics (just enough to know when to stop) and I learn new bits every now and then. I should have learned properly when I was younger as just about everyone brings their dodgy electrics to me to fix.

Trying to cut a long story short...
On my 50th (in March this year) I was on holiday. We went on a zip line/quad/abseiling adventure day out. The other couple on the trip were 21 years old and I bet they thought "Oh jeez we are stuck with a 50 year old, oh joy" although they were very polite and didn't say so.
Every so often I stopped for a smoke. It gave them a chance to catch up.
I really enjoyed that day but showing up a pair of 21 year olds made it sweeter.

So, don't slow down. Use your 'experience' (as stated by Cougar377) and live everyday like it's your last.

If the air filter was that bad I wonder how long ago it was last serviced?
I had an FJ1200 that I thought was great but a bit thirsty. I had it serviced and not only did it run better/smoother but the mpg was greatly improved by 12mpg.
Have you got any biking friends who could recommend a good workshop? Main dealers are not always the best places to get a bike serviced, I find that independent bike workshops do a better job at a better price.

Adrian Flux also use phone lines that charge extra and if you buy on-line they still like you to ring them (probably to make some dosh on the phone line), there is a free number but they muck you about something rotten when you use it.

Is that 3KVA at peak power? As that would only be about 1.5KVA at normal sustained level.
You can buy an uprated AVR for most generators but it might burn out the alternator over time. Much better to bite the bullet and get a larger generator.

A mate of mine has no mains electric and generates his own power. One day he came round to ask what I knew about generators as both of his weren't giving any output. After a brief reply of "Nothing" I went round to look. Luckily one of the gennies had worn the brushes out while the other had blown the AVR - I managed to swap the brushes over and got one working.
Looking on ebay I found replacement brushes for a couple of quid a set so I bought 3 sets. The AVR was about £45. There are many cheaper AVR's on ebay but when you investigate further they are not pure sine wave and are you going to trust an AVR that's only a fiver?
I've learnt a fair bit about generators which is a good job because he brought another one round the other day that needs fixing.

Me and the missus are named drivers on our sons car insurance as it made a big difference to the premium.  He is still down as the main driver so earning some NCD.  Having a black box was more expensive!

I'm with Bennetts too. I just rang them for a new quote as the renewal was high and the price soon dropped. I think I started the conversion by asking to cancel the renewal. Seems to get their attention.

If you have a multi meter...
Set it to read Amps.  Disconnect positive lead from battery. Connect multi meter - one lead to the battery and one to the positive lead you just disconnected. With the ignition switch off the meter should read zero.  A reading of 0.1 amps will drain a bike battery within two days.
If you get a reading above zero try disconnecting the voltage regulator/rectifier. If the amps go to zero you have found your problem. Try disconnecting other things if this doesn't work.

You should always disconnect the earth lead rather than the positive.

Old habits die hard. Using the positive is way I learnt.

Mmm, it seems that the average age, so far, is a little on the high side.

When I first wanted a Fazer 1000 I couldn't afford one. I've had several bikes in the meantime but a year ago I made an error by selling my FJR1300 in favour of a much newer Vstrom 1000 at a bargain price. I like the Vstrom but not enough, it doesn't set my soul on fire, so it's up for sale. I did sell another bike and I got browsing on ebay and came across a Fazer 1000 at a decent price and it got my interest but it sold before I dare bid. Once funds were secure I started looking for Fazers and the one I now own came up at a very very good price. The Fazer reminds me of several other bikes I've owned in the past and that's why I love it, I still regret selling the FJR but I won't be going back anytime soon. I'm having too much fun.

The boss at the garage I go to asked the mot tester why he passed the Harley that was as loud as thunder yet failed the Honda step thru cos it had a slight blow. The Harley was louder at tick over than the Honda at full throttle.
His reply... The Harley exhaust isn't blowing and I don't like the twit that owns the Honda.
So yeah. Maybe you and the bike are being tested!

I had that fear as I've done the same in the past. The ones I've just bought are smaller and easier to fit.
I should have taken the ones or off my FJR before selling it. Live and learn.

I went to Silver Spares to collect parts for a 550/4. It was a good day out but before he had a collection of bikes on show. Must be 25 years since I've last been. I might have a ride out there to have a peek.

Go to your MOT tester and ask if it will pass before going for the actual test.
My tester took the pee out of my bike and asked why I'd put the baffle back in. He said it sounded awful and he might even fail it unless I agreed to remove the baffle.
Some testers are more anal than others.

They have all the different fittings to suit whatever you need.

The ones I ordered arrived yesterday. Much easier to install than a standard bulb as they are slightly smaller (fitting rear bulbs in a Fazer is an art). They work really well and exactly what I was after.

So thank you Northern Biker for the recommendation.

The northern regions will face the worst of the wind although it will be quite strong in the south too.
Best advice if you use a bike cover is to take it off during high winds.

In the 6 drivers cpc courses I have attended I have learnt only one thing.
I should be an instructor! Much easier and better paid than being a driver.
Only problem is the majority of work is during the weekend so no good for me.
Oh. That makes it 2 things I have learnt!

Are you asking about your Bandit lights?
Fazer ones (Gen 1 model) are standard rear stop/tail bulbs with offset bayonet fitting. The headlamps are H4 Halogen bulbs.
Got some coming in the post and if they are good I'll let you know.

Good luck with your test and getting the bike roadworthy.

I will have to attend 4 more cpc courses soon or lose my right to drive a lorry professionally - as soon as I can face being bored to death - or change my job (tempting).

If I hadn't gone to watch BSB at Brands Hatch I would have gone to Stafford show as I haven't been for several years.
It's probably a day to leave the credit card at home or face severe questioning when the bill arrives...

It was a great day. Sun shining and nice and warm. I won't spoil the result for those who haven't seen it yet but there are a few twists in the showdown.

General / Re: what did you do with your fazer today ?

I've been blinging the Fazer up today.
Nice shiny stainless rad side covers, indicator repeaters (as I find it difficult to notice the one on the dash as it's green and not orange)
MRA screen - it's a bolt on one to extend the stock screen.

Pics will have to follow as I had 'other stuff' to do inside the house and I ran out of time.
