Installing a GiPro X-Type Gear Indicator
« on: 23 May 2019, 12:25:41 pm »
Hi all,
I'm currently trying to install a GiPro gear indicator, and whilst I'm no idiot when it comes to wiring etc, I'm struggling with the instructions a bit. So the bit I'm struggling with is the "Crankshaft position sensor", mentioned in step 3a of the instructions (attached). Could anyone give me some pointers to identifying the necessary parts? A picture with red circles would be helpful. :)

Tia.

Hiya,
Thanks for answering. I forgot to put it's the G2 version, if that makes any difference? So i have the non abs S2, so the compatibility came up as the GPX Y01, which i have.

heres a link to the supplementary manual

https://www.healtech-electronics.com/docs/Supplementary%20Manuals/GPX-Y01__Yamaha_FZ6__2004-2008.pdf

Us eit in conjunction with the following instructions:

1. remove the seat and find the ECU connector
2. Splice the red GPX wire to any +12volt switched power lead eg to the red/white wire at the ECU connector
3. Splice the black GPX wire to the chassis ground, or the negative battery terminal
4. Splice the white GPX wire to the white yellow (speed signal) wire at the ECU connector
5.Splice the green GPX wireto the grey (crankshaft sensor signal) wire at the ECU connector

Dont commit to cutting/spilcing into any wires unless you are 100% certain youve got it.

Just bear in mind that nos 1 to 5 above are for the U01, and there may or may not be wire colour changes between ythe 2 bikes. And a word of warning, there is very little slack in the cables under the tank. Where it says "at the ECU connector" find the right wire and then follow it away a little from the connector until you have enough room for the splice to locate. I used a pair of tweezers to tease the wires until id got enough slack to splice with. Its very, very tight under there. Youy will need patience
