Just wondering if this belonged to anyone on here?
Looks to be a very clean nice example but imho, a bit strong on pricing?

For Sale & Wanted / WANTED: Gen1 1000 comfort (ideally taller) seat
« on: 05 August 2021, 08:00:45 pm »
Greetings all,

Had a spare taller seat that i purchased on here a while back. Unfortunately, it was a little too tall. Took it to be reupholstered but when they took the cover off, the foam etc underneath was pretty much rotten / been eaten. It wasn’t cost effective to have them rebuild it from scratch.

Soo…..

Anybody got a slightly taller than standard reworked / comfort type seat that they’d like to part with for sensible money please?

Thought I’d ask here before I go to that auction site to pick up a cheap second hand seat to be recovered.

I’ve tried a gel pad strapped on top of the standard, but don’t like the way that you roll around on it whilst riding and tbh, I didn’t find it much, if any more comfortable. It’s really a little more height that I’m after, to reduce the angle of my knees and hips as I get older.

Greetings all,
I’m looking for an original (if possible) Gen 1 belly pan if anyone has one that they’d be willing to part with?
I’ve got second dibs on an aftermarket one from Falcon but I’m not hopeful. Ideally, it would be in the deep purple metallic blue, but I’d consider any colour, as I have some paint left over from my fairing respray.
I’d consider an aftermarket one as well obviously, but it would need to be able to be fitted With the Yamaha crash bungs which are already in place.
Thanks.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen1 indicators
« on: 18 May 2020, 01:56:56 pm »
Greetings all,
Are the Gen1 indicators really different from each other??? Fowlers list a different part number for each indicator unit.
Haven’t got the bike in the garage at the moment so can’t go and compare each of them.
I’m after a new front right indicator, part number

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 1 Refurb? Or Replace?
« on: 07 March 2020, 10:59:53 am »
Greetings all,

I’m hoping for a bit of constructive advice from the collective please? I know a few of you have had this dilemma previously and wouldn’t mind hearing your thoughts about how you resolved it and whether, in hind sight, you feel that you made the right choice.

Had my Gen1 (3rd over the years) for about eight years now. Had some of the best mods done, Ohlins front and rear, Full Monty, etc. its been a cracking bike and every time I ride it, I come away feeling it’s such a fantastic allrounder and so versatile.

I’ve been pondering recently over a more modern replacement again. (It’s a biannual cycle 🙄). I tried the MT10 in 2018 and it wasn’t for me, a year and a pro lapsed disc later. Been looking at lots of things, Speed Triple, Street Triple, Speed Twin, XSR900, MT09 but, to be honest, there’s nothing that REALLY floats my boat. Particularly after I’ve looked at the cost to change. I should add that Im lucky enough to also have a BMW Gs12.

Unfortunately, over the years, the ravages of time, all year round use, British climate and my less than perfect cleaning regime, have taken their toll on the Fazer. A couple of years back, I unfortunately dropped it on some black ice over the winter. This left some scuffs and minor cracks on the fairing / nose cone. The worst part by far, is the engine paint.

Sooo.......

I’ve been looking around for a while online at decent condition second hand ones, to see what I would need to pay for a REALLY nice condition one.

Do I:

1. Buy a second Gen1 as above to “Keep for Best”, sunny days out etc OR
2. Spend the money getting mine refurbed / partial restoration.

I can see advantages to both options.

I would keep my current one and continue to use it as a winter / poor weather ride, if it was option one. I wouldn’t get a great deal of money back from it I don’t think, unless I stripped it back to basics and sold on the extras.I could always take it on the odd track day without any great worry if I did end up dropping it again.

Anyone gone down the refurb / resto route, paying to have it done (as I would)? Appreciate any feedback on costs involved if you have?

Any thoughts please from those that have been there and done either option?

Cheers

Any interest in this at £8250??? To include all of the extras listed?  Or £8000 completely standard?

I might also consider an immaculate and well maintained red and black or blue Gen1 in part exchange up to £2500?

Yamaha MT10 blue in colour, First registered 26/03/2018 with currently about 2200 miles on the clock. This may rise a little if we get some decent weather.

It had its 600 mile service at the end of May 2018. Second year of Yamaha warranty still to run. The bike is in superb undamaged condition. It has been wrapped up in the garage over the winter as I haven’t done a great deal of riding over this winter (see below) and I also have a winter hack should I feel the need.

I bought this brand new last March to run alongside my then R1200GS TE. Sadly, I then managed to write the GS off in September and both my body and my confidence took a bit of a bash. The up side is that it seems to have maybe knocked some sense into me and made me realise that perhaps the MT isn’t the bike for me going forward.

So, as fantastic a bike as it is, I’m going to move it on. I still have my Gen1 which isn't going anywhere and may even get a bit of a cosmetic refresh once this sells.

It’s the standard MT10, not the SP. however, with the extras that I’ve fitted, it’s closer to an MT10 Tourer in spec. I believe that the only things that a Tourer has that mine doesn’t, is some 20L soft panniers (available from SW Motech with frames for £274 https://bykebitz.co.uk/bags-connection-blaze-panniers-for-yamaha-mt10.html and the Yamaha handguards. I cant remember if they come with heated grips or not?

Anyway, the MT10 comes as standard with:Cruise control / power socket / quickshifter / three power modes / three traction control modes / ABS and probably other stuff that I’ve forgotten.

In addition I have fitted the following:
Colour matched Baglux tank cover from new (£134)
Yamaha Touring screen (£172)
Yamaha Comfort seat (absolute necessity) (£272)
Rad / oil cooler guards - can’t remember which make, possibly R & G? £80ish?
Givi aluminium rear rack with monokey plate (£118)

The bIke, including all of the accessories listed above, is for sale at £8750
If you want the bike completely standard, I’ll sell it for £8500.

IM not looking to take offers on these prices at the moment thanks.

The cheapest that I can find on biketrader is a 2016 plate at Ocean BMW for £7500 with 15k miles on it and none of my extras. Everything else listed is starting at £8k and again mostly 2016 plates, without my accessories.

They made improvements to the 2017 / 2018 models, adding quickshifter / different smoother fuelling maps etc.

Please PM me with any interest, but I wouldn’t linger on it, as I’m in liaison with some dealers at the moment, so it may be going in as a part exchange.

I'm not prepared to start stripping the extras off of it at the moment either, sorry.

If you'd like to see some photos, please PM me with your email address and I'll fire some across to you. I can't seem to work out how to resize them small enough to attach them in line with the forum rules.

Greetings all,

I don’t know if it’s anybody on here, but there’s an as new Gen1 belly pan, in I believe, candy blue. Staring price is £50. The only downside is that it’s currently collection only from Chiselhurst, near Orpington in Kent.

Hope it’s of use to someone on here. Here’s the link. It’s nothing to do with me by the way, don’t know the seller, just saw it on the bay.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Raised / re sculpted seat on a Gen1.
« on: 10 January 2019, 05:11:44 pm »
Greetings all,

I, like others on here it seems, am beginning to find the leg room / angles between hip, ankles and knees a little uncomfortable as I get older. I’m lucky enough to have an MT10 in my garage as well and don’t have any such problems with this. Having measured the peg to seat top on both bikes, I’ve found that the MT (with comfort seat fitted) is some 4cm taller.

I’m therefore considering the purchase of a second hand seat, which I will then send off to be resculpted by a professional, to give me that little more height and leg room.
Anybody here already done this? If so, how do you find it? Got any pictures? Recommendations about who you used / cost?

By the way, I have already used my airhawk for a few rides out. I find that with it inflated sufficiently to make a difference, I don’t like the way that you roll around on it, as the air shifts from one air pocket to another.
If you reduce the amount of air in it to prevent this, then I find that it doesn’t make a significant enough difference.

When I bought it, the bike had a Sargent seat fitted. I found this really uncomfortable on a long trip to Devon and have therefore long since reverted to the standard seat.

I have also, like others, considered foot peg lowers. However, I don’t really want to reduce the ground clearance. Not because I’m any sort of riding god that likes to regularly scrape the pegs I might add. I would just prefer to retain the look of the original pegs.

I’m Thinking Tony Archer or similar for the seat resculpting, unless anyone else has any recommendations in the south east?
Thanks

Please see the below link if you're interested.

Sick of having to climb over bikes to get out of the garage, something has got to give and it isnt going to be the Gen1.  :)

For a Foccer, I'll leave the touring Scottoiler on it and also throw in a top box as well.

Theres nothing wrong with it, runs sweet. Only thing it will need in the short term would be a new rear tyre. Currently on about 2mm in the centre.

Any interest please message me either here or via EBay BUT please state that you're a Foccer.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Water pump leak
« on: 21 April 2017, 12:23:15 pm »
greetings All,

Seem to be finding a small amount of coolant on the garage floor under the Gen1 the last couple of times that I've been out there. I've had a quick look and it appears to be weeping from what I'm assuming is the water pump? (Round metal thing, similar size to an oil filter, on the lower right at the front of the engine).

Might this be something that could be fixed by new seals / gaskets? Or is it a replacement water pump from Yamaha?

Many thanks for any assistance.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Any Gen1 owners short in the leg?
« on: 02 January 2017, 11:18:49 am »
Greetings and Happy new year to you all.

Bit of an odd one this........

My brother, 5'07" 29" inside leg, who is a little shorter than me at 5'09" 30" inside leg, is looking for a different bike to go abroad on for a few days this year, with his wife and luggage. I've offered him the loan of my Gen1 but we're both a little concerned about the height of the bike for him.

I'm able to just about get both feet flat on the floor astride the bike. I'm concerned though that he may struggle. Unfortunately he's down in Plymouth and I'm in Reading, so it's a long way to go for him to just try it for size, particularly with the current conditions.

I know that he can try and find a Gen1 bike at a local dealers to try it for size, but was just wondering if there is anyone on here, with a similar inside leg measurement, that manages to cope with a standard ride / seat height on a Gen1?

I've read a few threads about lowering links on here and elsewhere, but have my reservations. Whilst the links wouldn't be that expensive, there seems to be opposing views on whether dropping the front forks through the yolks actually improves things or makes matters worse.

Any advice appreciated.

Equally, if there happens to be any standard height Gen1 owners located in Plympton or Plymouth that wouldn't mind my brother popping over at some point, to swing a leg over your bike and try it for size, that would be appreciate.

Many thanks

Skid

Greetings All,

First of all this bike is nothing at all to do with me. Whilst the dealer may be geographically near me in Reading, I have no idea where (at the moment).  :D

I just thought that all you fellow Gen1 owners / enthusiasts might enjoy having a look at it. Surely this must be the best low mileage Gen1 available anywhere?

Please let us all know if one of you buys it. Enjoy!  :)

Greetings All.

Posting this from holiday at the moment. Ive heard back from the workshop where my Gen 1 is in having I t's near side fork leg looked at again. I've now had the seals changed three times, twice with pattern seals and the last with OEM ones. Sadly, now that the forks have been stripped down, there does appear to be some damage to  the stanchion / slider that wasn't evident previously, hence why they keep blowing.

Turn around for the forks to be sent off to be refinished is apparently six weeks. As I'm booked on a locally organized track day at the beginning of September on the Fazer that doesn't really work for me.(I've already paid for it)

Soooooo..............

Does anyone have either an excellent condition undamaged complete single left side fork leg available?

Or............

A pair of original fork legs for a Gen1 that are in excellent condition please?

I'd need them posting ideally, so if you do have something, please could you PM me with a price including P&P?

Clearly the track day cost me £120 and I know roughly how much it would cost to have to forks refinished, so if replacements are going to cost me a fortune, then I may just be better off losing the cost of the track day and waiting.

Any ideas about costing would be appreciated though, as I really have no idea what would be a reasonable price for either a single complete leg or a pair.

Gutted. Just had Mike "Full Monty" it and put a new rear tyre on and haven't been able to use it since. 😡

22
Greetings All,

THIS WILL BE COLLECTION ONLY FROM RG8 NEAR READING

Having a bit of a clear out in the garage. I have two original exhaust end cans that are sitting idle wrapped up in sheets and taking up space. One is cleaner / nicer than the other but they're both in good condition.

Now that Falcon has done the Full Monty to my bike, there seems little point in hanging onto either of them. They are therefore offered free here to anyone willing to collect them before they go to the tip.

There is no point in posting, it will cost a fortune.

Any interest?

23
Greetings All,

I have a Sargent seat for a Gen1 for sale. It's in excellent condition and comes with a tool tube fitted on the underside. £80 plus p&p at cost. Or you can collect from near Reading RG8 postcode.
I'll try and attach a couple of photos below, but if, like most of my other attempts to do so, it doesn't work very well, PM me with an email address and I'll send them across to you.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Avon storm 170/60ZR17 on a Gen 1 thou?
« on: 19 October 2015, 07:36:04 pm »
i know that the standard size rear tyre for the Gen 1 is 180/55ZR17 but now that my Fazer is back up and running, the tyres are getting past their best. (If I've got the sizes the wrong way around apologies).

I've a fairly new set of Avon storms in the garage and was wondering what the collective knowledge could tell me about fitting them to the Gen 1 please?

The front is the same size, so it's really only the effects of fitting a 170/60 to the rear that I'm enquiring about.

Any thoughts appreciated. It will be used through the winter for odd jaunts out and possibly a track day next year.

Cheers

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen1CDi question please
« on: 05 September 2015, 09:52:19 am »
Greetings All,

Ive posted previously about some issues with my Gen 1 Thou cutting out.
To recap, the bike cuts out after running it for a couple of miles, no spluttering / coughing etc, it literally just dies on the spot!
It will then turn over fine but apparently no spark because it won't fire up. Give it a minute or two and try again………….it then fires up no problem, runs fine and off you head down the road, only for it to repeat the procedure about half a mile further on.
I have managed to replicate this in the garage on the ramp, merely by running the bike at a fast idle. After a while, it then just dies as before.
Electrics not being my thing, I therefore sent the bike off to a respected factory trained mechanic who has spent some time looking at it.
He has been through the bike and has deduced that it can't be a loose / faulty wire in the ignition circuit, because it has done it in the workshop at a standstill and in that sterile environment would fail and stay failed, not correct itself a few minutes later, as it also does at the roadside.
He's been through the fault code readings and can't find anything showing a fault on these.
The only thing that he has noticed is that at the front right corner of the cdi box, to the right of where the block connector goes in, this is very hot to the touch, whereas the rest of the unit is coolish.
Would any of you guys have experienced this with your Gen 1's? Would some of you mind checking yours please, when the bike is hot and feeding back to me as to whether or not you have significant heat on your cdi boxes in any particular places?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just costed up a new Cdi box from Fowlers…………….£459-80 PLUS VAT.  :eek :eek :eek :eek
Clearly thats not something that I can afford to splash out on, just on the off chance that it might be this causing the issue.
If, with some feedback, I can establish with more certainty if this is the problem, then I can decide whether to buy a new one, try and source a secondhand one, or just break the bike.

Thanks in advance for any help / advice.
