Intercoms and the like
« on: 13 March 2015, 08:09:51 pm »
Hello all.
Long time no speak on here, but I've finally had my cam chain done, and a service, and tax and test so I'm back on the road after a small fortune.

As the summer is nearing, and my partner and I now live together, we're looking at spending some time out on the bike.

I've already ordered a set of love handles, hopefully to make both our lives a touch easier.

Next up, I was hoping for some kind of intercom setup.
Something 2 way, basically so we can generally just communicate, which with the other half, anything longer than 5 minutes ride time is necessary lol.

Are there any relatively basic setups that will allow this?
I can't seem to find anything obvious online and I'm pretty new to this, didn't think I'd ever have the need but it seems it'll be beneficial for years to come.

Any advice of course is greatly appreciated.
Thanks all

im using a sena smh10 very easy to use but i only use it for the phone/satnav/ music  and people cant tell your out on the bike up to 80 mph using the phone but apparently u can hear each other within  a half a mile radius just in case you drive away without her sometime  :rollin she can scream in your ear ,unless your quick enough to get out of range first lol

Those look good
Intercom wise though, I take it there's no push to talk feature or anything, they just hear everything you say and stuff?

Little pricey possibly too, as I'd need 2 obviously

as i remember when you buy a pair their a little cheaper but very easy to use with gloves with the big jog dial you tap to talk as far as im aware so you not listening to the other wearer constantly as i said now i havent used it with another user so ,i cant personally vouch for that aspect ,but for music the speakers are savage ,for their size ,twist the dial and it plays the next track even bluetooth on the phone with it seems to have a suprisingly good distance if you needed it ,great rep for quality too sena, apparently, lots of real cheap chinese options on ebay though,
please god let the sun keep shining

Yeah that's what I wasn't sure of, that sounds good. I guess just getting used to the positioning of the headset part.

They look very good quality, though I am half tempted with the cheap Chinese £50 job on eBay.

Often you buy cheap you buy twice, but it really is occasional use so I'm torn.

Thanks

When we go to France/Spain we sometimes buy sets from ebay, about £70 gets you a pair of radios with all of the stuff needed to fit a helmet, along with push to talk buttons and the voice actuated option too, although I never used this. Bike to bike they were fine below about 80, after that it gets difficult. The shop is somewhere in Crewe from what I remember.

That seems decent enough

Is that proper wired radios or wireless bluetooth  jobs?

Will get searching. They're starting from around £50 up.

80 plus is just when I'm blipping around never a constant speed really so that doesn't matter.

I'm pretty steady with the other half on the back.

Cheers

Wired radios in your pocket, the only wire to the bike was the charging cable if you needed it.

I use the Senna bike to bike and for music and the like
You push the big jog dial button on the side to open the intercom and then again to close it down they are good up to half a mile with line of sight but less if things get in the way
The only problem I have is the noise from my screen on the fz1 above about 50 it was ok on other bikes

Radio technology is old hat and one dimensional. I know it works, but it is not adaptable to modern life. Go down the bluetooth route. That way you can connect to each other  :thumbup  You can also independently listen to music, sat-nav or any other bluetooth compatible device  :thumbup   There is no massive radio in your pocket, so its less weight and bulk :thumbup  The price is about the same :thumbup  And they look a hell of a lot better :thumbup .

I have used a bluetooth headset for the last couple of years. My mate has the same one and we can chat when we are touring. He can listen to the directions from my Garmin Zumo, so doesn't have to "follow me", we can each listen to our own music and we can make and receive calls.
Not quite sure what to do with my early mid-life crisis. Ideas on a post card to P.O.BOX 150...

What one do you have Mate?

Cheap job or more expensive kit?

Has anyone tried to pair different bluetooth sets to each other? Did it work? Was it any good?

Hi taylor, I was meaning pairing to another brand of bluetooth, say if your mate has one make and you have another, can they be paired?

I always ask for the same thing every Fathers Day, TO BE LEFT THE F**K ALONE TO RIDE MY BIKE, NO PHONE CALLS SAYING "IVE GOT TO COME HOME COZ THE KIDS ARE KILLING EACH OTHER", NO "WE'VE GOT TO GO SHOPPING", NO "COME HOME AND PEEL THE SPUDS". NOTHING!

I love Fathers Day!!!

I'd like it even more if someone bought me another bike though, ANY bike would do!

Don't think its likely though.
