Pull the tape off and have a look, probably covering a bit of surface rust.

This was a great idea! I didn't contribute much to those particular threads but always viewed them and, as already mentioned, were getting quite nasty and personal.

I'm now looking at older threads with interesting pointers and advice and enjoying the forum more.

Solvent weld from a plumbers merchants isn't expensive but not sure if it will work on acrylic, I use it on waste pipes all the time but you have to apply then twist so it really gets spread properly so I would suggest if you use it you would have to apply to both surfaces then rub them together a couple of times.

I found it fairly easy but I didn't have to change the generator only the rotor. I agree about the gasket it must have took me about half an hr to get that off as it was a right pain...

The bolts holding mine on were easy to undo and I didn't put any threadlock on when I refitted either  :eek

So glad I did mine as a preventative measure last month, looks like you are a lucky man today  :thumbup

I have one exactly like this one that I took off my 2007 model only a few weeks ago! I wouldn't know what a 2009 model one looks like TBH...I thought they all looked like this until they were upgraded by Yamaha from 2009/10? I might be wrong as I don't know much about these bikes yet.

My question now is how to do I know if its the stator coil or the magneto flywheel??
If all the magnets are in place on the flywheel then does it have to be the stator coil thats gone?

I can't imagine it would be the stator with the magnets attached that would be the problem as this just connects mechanically to the engine and provides the rotation for the coil that produces the current.

I got my gasket here, the packet it came in had a genuine Yamaha sticker on it but it did cost me £16 with postage.

Changing the stator is fairly simple TBH I did mine only around 2-3 weeks ago and used the RM stator which cost me around £220 all in with a new gasket. I still have the original one which had nothing wrong with it.

Hope it's just the battery  :thumbup

Been looking into getting a fuel cut eliminator for my 2007 FZ1, has anyone got any opinions on whether to bother or not? Can you still get them? Are there any alternatives?

I'm thinking about it as it can be a bit skitty at the back when you re-apply the throttle while going round a bend.
