General / Re: Cyclist vs Motorbike...... court case - interesting read
« on: 08 January 2012, 06:45:46 pm »
Just thought I'd highlight this part. "This is a rare charge. I have been in the police force for eight years and never come across it before".  :eek

There are crap road users of every category, including us motorcyclists. Can any of honestly say they've not seen some REALLY poor riding by some motorcyclists, car drivers, lorry drivers ... etc.?  :rolleyes

This is a pet hate of mine, red lights, junctions, even level crossings. None of these are seen as applicable to cyclists. Yes, without doubt there are stupid car / bike riders out there. But it's the attitude of cyclists that annoys me the most. The "I'm on a pushbike so I can do what the f** I like" mentality. Really gets my goat.

This is exactly why I love cycling and do 90% of all commuting, even some traveling on a bicycle. I can do whatever I like, it is my ass on the line most of the time. Don't know about you, but I feel stupid sitting on a red light on a sunday morning when there is NO TRAFFIC. In a car, or even a motorcycle, I'd get caught by the bigBrother traffic camera, but on a bicycle I can just ride on! :)   Filtering, riding wrong way of one way streets, using sidewalk when appropriate, all sorts of shortcuts. It is just fun. Been hit 3 times buy a car so far, all three times when crossing on a green light with right of way (good old SMIDSY).

The genuine pads are around £35 each side.. i know the EBC are cheaper but i guess you get what you pay for. I agree fully EBC are nowhere near as good as the OEM but big difference in price.

AP Racing are very nice and cheap. I use those.

Introduction / Re: Greetings from Montenegro
« on: 05 January 2012, 02:49:33 pm »

English:

Welcome brother,

Fazer is OK for tall people, but I think for a nearly two meters tall man a TDM is better tailored. Although for the Fazer I can say all the best. Given what is done in this part of the world with frames and numbers, you will hardly ever be sure. See what the condition is and check over Motorists Union (if it can be in Montenegro) that the motor is not wanted, that it is not hot. In Serbia on some occasions even dealers sold stolen motors like new.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: LED Tail & Stop Lights
« on: 04 January 2012, 06:21:16 am »
The big difference is that while they may not be much brighter, they won't blow like a normal bulb leaving you with no tail light (yes I know a Fazer has two bulbs but they could both blow, maybe.....).

But they do blow. LEDs are not resistant to shock and moisture. Or too much heat. I put rear and signal and front "position" light LEDs and soon went back to ordinary. Except for rear ones, but am thinking of replacing them back to normal soon.

Chance of both rear bulbs blowing at the same day are... what?

Do what you like, that's just my experience, hope someone uses it before paying.

« on: 03 January 2012, 06:58:31 pm »
Been there, done that. All the LED way. My experience:

It took the brightest ones (with most LEDs, like the picture) to come near the standard 5w25w tail lights. Not bad, but not much better. No sense on Fazer I think. I like LEDs on handheld torchlights, battery run bicycle lights etc, but not nice on motorcycle. Not at all.

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Steering
« on: 02 January 2012, 06:49:20 am »
One other thing you might try on a long, straight empty road is to accelerate up to a reasonable speed, then pull in the clutch and block-shift down to neutral and (carefully!) let go of the bars and see if it starts to drift.

After checking tyre pressure and play in the steering head, I suggest doing this as well. However, I think it would be a lot safer to accelerate into a higher gear and leave the bike in gear. Just as a precaution, should the bike start turning sharp.

If there is no play, tyres are well inflated and good, but bike starts leaning on its own, do check for wheel alignment (Cord method before mentioned). Perhaps it could be made OK with minor change of rear wheel alignment (with bolts). In case this doesn't help, check for bent (missaligned) forks, then frame. Forks cane be screwed when putting them on, or just when mounting the front wheel badly. That is not a big problem.

If you like smoking - don't stop. You can't die healthy, anyway. Riding motorcycle is a lot more hazardous for one's health. Get a nice pipe, home made tobacco and enjoy! :)

There are 4 young polish lads living next door who never leave the house except for a bit of shopping, they stay in all day on laptops and desktops doing god knows what.

More knowledge, less prejudice. Find a mate who knows that stuff and ask him/her to set you a nice secure home WiFi. Perhaps even with MAC address filter if you don't use a lot of different wireless units on your home network.

Or meet the Poles! :)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Mirror extenders for fzs 600
« on: 23 December 2011, 06:39:14 am »
i have the same problem seeing my elbows in the original mirrors. but does putting the wider mirrors on make filtering trickier? easy filtering is probably the best thing about the fazer. i wouldn't want to lose that

Compared to my Suzuki GN125, these are still ultra narrow. Those additional 5 cm to each side are higher than most car mirrors, so no problems there. They are plastic, won't scratch car paint even if you do touch anything. In my case mirrors are practically not wider than my rear topcase, so another warning - mirrors don't pas, I don't pass.   :eek

These spill check is rally good!    :)

Cheers for that Limax, i can always nip a bit off them if its a problem and also thanks for the Louis link, Slaninar.

You're welcome. They fit on square eyes no problem. A bit longer nuts, but who cares?
So far they've put some 20,000 km in 180+ km/h speeds, bumpy roads, hot, cold - no problem. They are still standing like I put them. Decent quality IMO. At that price - it's a no brainer.

Same thinking here in Spain :lol
The truth is that I am jealous. I wish we had a race like the TT. I have to go to Man once in my life for sure.

Also no overall speed limit...

That race seems inspiring and exciting. I'd love to experience it.

The speed limit thing: what does no "overall" speed limit mean? Like, when not near schools, on open mountain roads, you can speed as fast as you like?

In Serbia if you ride a motorcycle, there is practically no speed limit, since police won't chase you or even take your plates. But roads are pretty bad.

I don't know where you went to school slaninar but the geography teacher didn't do a very good job,

Sorry, no offence meant. From Wiki information, it is a semi-independent province? All this UK, Wales, Northern/Repoublic of Ireland etc stuff is just too complicated. For most people I know: west of La Manche = England = poor weather, lovely football, strange humour, drunk tourists behaving badly (ie just like they do themselves :)  ), not too pretty women, great police (unarmed!?!).

Any ski suit will do. Just get some cross country protectors underneath (or over).

The only other thing that realy works for me is goretex. But it is expensive. Dainese if you find it - very, very nice.

2 piece raind over suit is a must. As well as mitten and boot rain covers. Anti fog pinlock visor.

Hi all have any fit a 120/70/17 on the front do it ride safe .
Thanks all  ;)

Not sure it will fit under the frond fender. Perhaps 120/60/17. But I hear it affects handling. Wouldn't risk it.

Here, someone ought to put this on a sticky, or something:

Louis always has these cheap, aftermarket FZS2002+ mirrors. They fit bolt on and are nicely some 5 cm wider - just perfect. Nice for filtering, but you can see past your shoulders.

I put mine on a sidestand in the first gear. It survived a storm with no problems once I got caught by one. Even without removing 50 liter topbox. Was your on ceterstand, or the sidestand when it fell?

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: So have yamaha sold any 8's ?
« on: 11 December 2011, 06:58:37 am »
The FZ8 was a hugh let down, as were the Kawasaki and Suzuki 750 efforts.

When I started riding, back in the early '70s, a 750 was a big bike and now a properly sorted 750/800 would be all you really need on the road for solo riding.

Only for solo?!? Maybe I'm inexperienced, but that's more than enough for 2up. Anything over 90 bhp is more than enough for nice ride 2up plus luggage. Enough power for goind uphill, for taking over cars etc. I hear people saying "yes, but on a 1000 you don't have to change gears all tha time". When I hear that, I think of a 2000 cc diesel automatic - NO FUN.

basic'y   no  a  hagon shock is better than stock but still £300 try upping the preload  1 or 2 notches

had it on hardest setting 2 up still was very soft :o

Then get some 500e for a decent Wilbers shock, or start dating a model - they are lighter! :)

« on: 03 November 2011, 07:21:36 pm »
Just get a spare set of rims. Cheap, steel ones for winter tyres. Leave tyres on rims, slightly over inflated (2.2 bars instead of 2.0 if that's your car's spec). Keep away from direct sunlight and too much heat and they should be fine.

Not a single speeling mistake in this poost! Amaizing! :)
