Seat
« on: 27 June 2013, 11:11:49 pm »
Hi guys, I'm finding my fox eye quite cramped, as in my arse to feet distance, been looking at my seat and I think a previous owner might of had some foam taken out of it as the seat cover is loose on the front half of the seat and has about an inch of play in it, but where a passenger would sit the cover is tight, do the seat covers just get loose with age and use?

I've never known any of mine to, unless you have a hole or split and water has degraded the foam itself?

No holes or splits and the foam is still firm under there

If the seat has been re-covered by a previous owner then that could be the cause, it's a tricky job, especially if you do it on your own.
It's difficult to do a DIY job and get it exactly like an original.

If you need a seat repacked and covered to a style & colour of your choice then this guy is awesome.

He did a cracking job on my Tiger and is also the guy who made the seat for Billy Connelys trike. £140 posted back for my Tiger.

Funny this should come up as I'm having the same problem. I went to a bike shop yesterday to see how it can be fixed as my right knee after 50 miles or so starts feeling quite bad due to being too cramped up. I do have long legs though, to give an idea I can comfortably flat foot on both sides the non-supermoto model DRZ400 which is a pretty tall bike. I suggested a jack up kit but he said that wouldn't affect the leg position as it's seat to peg height thats the issue and that I would need to get the seat packed to make it taller. One of my friends makes seats for cafe racers professionally that are shipped all over the world, so I'll see what he can do first. Has anyone had a Fazer seat beefed up height wise?

I would rather try one of those air cushion things before I started forking out big money on repacking the seat, or pos buy a seat of a breaker and see if that makes a difference

I had this problem too with my Foxeye - I originally had a 2001 model with a higher seat but when I picked up my current 2003 model the seat was uncomfortably low and sounds very similar to your seat with the loose section at the front. The seats are a simple swap over. I guess I was kinda lucky that I had the higher old seat lying around but that has solved my problem and now the ride is a lot more comfortable.
