FZS600 Fazer / Just out the stable, Fuel sender problem
« on: 19 May 2020, 11:01:55 pm »
Hi all, just thought I would put a update, on the bike, just been out for it's first ride after 13 years in a stable.
Have all the body work and mechanical issues sorted, and after the test ride I just had a dodgy fuel gauge, which is now sorted.
I'm new to 600's and wasn't expecting that after a R1 for 7 years, really amazed at it's performance it's so nice to ride.
The fuel gauge/sender issue I thought I would share as it may be useful for someone at some point, that is if not already covered
which I suspect it may be.
The mileage I have now pushed to 6000, which I suspect is pretty unusual for a 1999 bike, I thought it may be wrong as the front wheel
speed pickup was broken, but at the M.O.T the guy checked and it was correct !
Anyway if it works here's the YouTube links for the first ride and the sender fix, sorry about the crap camera work.
Cheers
Fint.

Any update on the installation?

I'm only asking so I get some reassurance when I come to do mine....lol

Yep seemed to all go ok just waiting to get it in for a M.O.T. so I can set it while riding, shows all the gears on the unit display when ignition
is switched on "fingers crossed" put some air horns, alarm and accessory point on while off road, all just cheap items for Ebay.
Vid of if it works ! cheers.

I don't see the need for a gear change indicator really other that to tell me I am ALREADY IN 6TH :smokin Even though I have had the bike for 18 years I still go for 7th.

This is one reason I got a gear indicator on my previous bike, getting tired after a long ride on twisty roads thinking I'm still in 3rd and going for 2nd
when I was already there and thinking I'm still in the last century where changing down was a good way to get some braking was normal, hence the gentle
park up to check the underwear  :eek  it was also before I fixed the gearbox as it wasn't going into gear always.

That looks like it gos to 8 - everyone knows Fazers only have 7 gears  :lol
The heading says 6 speed so what happens when you change up into 7th gear for motorway cruising?  Looks like they didn't set it up for the UK spec 7 gear models

 :lol

I've got the same one which from my instructions has just the two wires.  One to pick up a live feed.

The other picks up a grey cable located in a two pin plug with white and grey cables that sits behind the panel housing the key release for the seat.  You can see them poked down the edge next to the frame.

Others have fitted the exact same one so might be able to offer something more technical than me.

Cheers mate I'll try the grey cable if the yellow fails to work it when I test it on the road, which I'm still not sure is the only way to set it up ?

Welcome to the forum FLINT. :thumbup

The R1 5jj 2000 looks a beast? :) Love that era of Sports bikes. Your Fazer is going to be much more leisurely (in comparison).  :lol

Cheers mate, miss the R1  terribly, although getting use to having the Fazer around but can't wait to get out with it, on the roads around here.

Thanks for that, hopefully by chance I could have it right.
These pics are where I joined in as the wire changes from red/white to yellow at the connector block from the pick up coil
and the other end under the tank has the white connectors plugging in between the original  white connectors. Do you think that's correct ?Cheers.

Hi, could anyone give a bit of advice on the wiring for a gear change indicator I'm fitting.
I guess a few of you have experience of fitting them.

It's mostly done but as it's not on the road till Jan 1st so I cant try it out.
Do I need to set it up on the road as the speedo pick up I see is on the front wheel or can it be done on the centre stand.
The instructions were a bit vague and I don't read Chinese to well !
I've wired the pick up wire to the yellow as pic do you think this is correct ?
Thanks
Andy.

Lots of options but I plumbed for one of these from Ebay. 312765751860,  just fits in the gap in the fairing.

Hi, all thanks for letting me join your club, I may even get the hang of this vast thing that you have created (eventually) but fumbling on-
I'm quiet a relic myself now but I am keen to get this Fazer back on the road and me back into biking again.
It belonged to a friend and was in a bit of a poor state, which you may or may not see depending on if I manage to upload pics.
It was last on the road 10 years ago and has only covered 5000 miles ! had the carbs off three times, sorted all the bodywork it had been droped
while at stand still and someone had made a mess of the tank clearcoat not the original tank and front fairing by the look of it as it's gold the bike has a
black colour code, fitted a few extras and can't wait to try it out.
I've always had bikes sadly my last one went 3/4 years ago which was a R1 5jj 2000.
look forward to reading some interesting topics.
( now's  the tricky bit pictures)
Cheers FLINT.
Well here go's, now don't be offended if something appears from a Anne Summers catalogue  ! No that didn't work ?
