General / Car LED back lights!!!
« on: 11 January 2024, 09:20:44 pm »
Is it just me that thinks they are far too bright - the new cars that have led rear lights, they are so bright they look like constant brake lights and then when they brake it looks like fog lights - totally unnecessary IMO. And some seem to be a massive expanse of red - really big fat lights. And then at the same time seem to have tiny tiny indicators :rolleyes

General / Warning Police Ahead
« on: 09 October 2023, 12:47:31 pm »
I see on a lot of US bike related stuff that they use a signal tapping on the top of their helmet to let other riders know there are police up ahead,  think in some states it might even be against the law.I have never seen it in this country though as there is not a recognised signal apart from maybe flashing of headlights which can mean anything from cows in the road or you have left your filler cap open on your car :lol it is useless to try and flash on a box eye anyway :rollin

General / Pink lights
« on: 10 September 2023, 01:03:56 pm »
I saw an audi with what looked like an extra pink led strip above its white daytime running lights pretty sure its illegal but apart from that I think all bikes should be fitted with them.
I always thought that the EU law to have all cars fitted with daytime running lights made riding a bike more dangerous - why?. Because before that if you had your lights on when riding then drivers could see a bike approaching from miles away - it was either a bike or a volvo. But now our headlights are completely lost amongst the sea of ever fancy shapes of daytime running lights making it very hard for drivers to pick out a single light travelling in front of the Christmas tree light background. But that Audi with its pink strip was really easy to spot. --Thoughts  :lurk

Been thinking what would I do faced with one of their demonstrations blocking the road. Wouldn't take the chance on riding through as they all have cameras so I can be done for dangerous driving.

So what about filtering to the front turning the ignition off and taking the keys out and pushing the bike through them then once safely past jump on and off I go. Problem is now they have stopped gluing themselves to the road and instead are slow walking and my plan relys on me being able to push my bike faster than they can walk  :lol

General / The Covid thread
« on: 11 November 2020, 02:01:39 pm »
Their seems to be a lot of talk about vaccine at the moment. Get ready for a massive campaign at least as vigorous as the one used to scare the sh1t out of the population about covid in the first place, calling anyone who has genuine concerns an "Anti vaxer". Remember in the middle of the BSE mad cow disease scandal the then agri minister John Gummer feeding his 4 year old daughter a burger, expect to also see that kind of thing.

I don't feel it will be directly compulsory but I predict it may as well be because without a piece paper saying you have had the vaccine you will not be allowed to do almost anything, along the lines of
Public transport, visit the doctors, use a supermarket in person, visit a footy match, get a loan or mortgage. One is reminded of

I have been given a 20 year old Raligh prestige pioneer bike never used since brought, needs new  tyres and tubes the size is 28x 15/8 x 13/8 (700 x 35c ) the valve is a presta.

I am looking for the cheapest tyres I can find but dont want to end up with total useless rubbish that constantly picks up punctures or somthing. When I look on Halfords for 700x35C tubes I get a shreader valve hit for that size but for a presta valve I get 38-45c. The valve in it at the moment is a presta so I am guessing that the wheel is too thin to fit a shreader ? And will the 38-45c fit.
It may help to explain the riding I will be doing, mainly hard cycle paths (tarmac ), canal tracks a little road.

Any help and advice appreciated.

FZS600 Fazer / Rear Brake refurb
« on: 29 March 2020, 03:26:21 pm »
I was going to change pads and fluid and line after my MOT in April - after the MOT in case I potatoed the caliper. I now have anextra 6 months so am doing now.  I have read the various posts and advice but thought I would start my own as I have a few questions.I will be using a hel line and on the website it mentions black stealth heat shrink on the ends as an option. I actually think it looks a bit messy and my new line will be clear stainless steel but on the rear is there any reason to have the "stealth heat shrink.
  • what is peoples opinion on hel stainless steel bleed nipples and what size do I need.
  • Will 500ml of fluid be enough to do the job - even if I have to struggle with bleeding.
  • What fluid to get - any make better than other.
  • Pads SBS ceramic I see have been mentioned. I don't want anything too sharp on the rear
  • seals webmoto Ebay or fowlers.I read it can be hit and miss with pattern ones but is that still the case.
A reminder for those that do not know. I have had the bike for 19 years 23k on clock and the last 19k of them have been dry ones only. Bike garaged. The rear calaper was last serviced at 8k in 2002 pads fluid and seals ( so the receipt says )
