Renthal 758 Bars
« on: 01 April 2020, 09:03:44 am »
Hi all,
How many of you have change to the renthal 758 bars and have cut them down or still using the original length?
I've heard some people have cut 20mm off each end?

i bought my thou with 758`s already fitted, going from a 600 to a 1000 fazer they felt well too wide so i trimmed 20mm off each end, great for a while but soon realised i wanted the 20mm back  :o ...ive since bought another set but not got round to fitting them yet...imo, give them a a good trial before cutting... ;)
One, is never going to be enough.....

Not had mine on long but not had time to test them properly with the situation we are in so i will wait longer before trimming them down

Had mine for years, didn’t cut them down, no problems with cables or switches. Try before you cut them.

I've got them on my current Gen 1 and I've had them on one of my previous bikes as well and I've never felt the need to trim them down.

On the advice of others, I cut down the 758s I fitted to my thou.

How I wish I hadn't!!!! Don't cut anything until you've tried them out!

I bought my fazer thou with 758s already on it, they were black but I wanted blue so I bought new 758 bars.
I put the new bars on and instantly felt a difference, the new bars lightened up the steering.
I measured both bars and found that the new bars were longer.
Do I like the new twitchiness, for want of a better word, no, I preferred the shorter bars.
That 20 mil or so really shows up if you have ridden the bike with both lengths of bar.
Trouble is, I can’t be bothered to cut the new bars down, I just ride the beast as is.

I've noticed a disparity in length between various 758's as well. I have them on my Fazer which I'm perfectly happy with, so got a set for my Triumph that I'd flat bar converted years ago. These were noticeably narrower. Having handlebar mounted mirrors means you can't see much past my shoulders. I'd get another set, but there's no way of guaranteeing they'd be as wide as my Fazer ones.

FWIW, I think it depends on your shoulder width and arm length.  I've got short arms (and long pockets, my mates say LOL!) and found the standard width 758s a bit wide for comfort and control.  Trimmed them down 20mm off each end and felt much nicer ... for me.

As others have said, try and then decide if you need to shorten them. :)
