Farewell Dame Vera Lynn

The Forces' Sweetheart has sadly passed away aged 103.


Part of a remarkable generation that gave so much in the cause of freedom and peace.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that she was involved in the D-day stuff and appeared:agree to be doing well.

I'm in total agreement with these 

My Grandfather was one of what was called the 'forgotten army' fighting in Burma, he was lucky enough to see her when she visited and entrained the troops.   

He died many years ago now, but he always loved her songs, RIP dear lady and thank you.

Along with the speeches of Sir Winston Churchill, an inspiration to people during the war.


She also did a huge amount of charity work.

My real old man pissed off when we were kids and good riddance,some years later my mother met a chap who was also in the Burma campaign and although he would never speak about the war as such because I think it had affected him so much,every time Vera was on the telly he would say how the troops would love her visits and it really felt like you were a bit closer to home and the end of the horrors of war.I've always felt so lucky that we've lived in a generation when we haven't had to go and fight and I certainly wouldn't have been brave enough to volunteer they'd have had to drag me kicking and screaming just to enlist,born coward I'm afraid and so so grateful to those who gave their lives some of who I daresay were perhaps like me but had no choice. R.I.P. VERA.
