Title: Gone, but still around
Post by: kebab19 on 22 April 2017, 10:40:19 am
Well now, after 9 solid years of Fazer ownership the old girl has gone  :'( hopefully she'll carry on for a further 50,000 miles & the new owner will register on the site.
As for me, I've decided to give another Yamaha - the sports tourer FJR1300 a go.  Thought I'd try something completely different...might need to start weight training tho  :lol

Will still be on the forum, probably still keep a couple of R6 shocks in reserve for latecomers and might try & get another batch of front fork emulators from the States.
Thanks all, it's been a great experience

Glad you’ll still be on here, but surprised you’ve moved on from the Fazer, did you just fancy a change?
Anyhow, thanks for your pioneering work on the bike’s suspension. :thumbup

Fella, you've been a wizard for many people on here, and a gent to me to boot.
Hang around the forum, 'cos your knowledge is invaluable!  ;)

Just like to say thanks for all your tips especially on the forks, helped me a lot (couldn't spell enormously) ha.
Keep popping in.
Thanks

Hi Kebab, I keep being told how good the modded R6 shock is on the 600 Fazer. Do you have any available at the moment and if so what sort of price are they?

Thanks all, enjoyed improving the breed, even if it was only by a small amount. Couldn't stand such a good bike being held back by mediocre suspension.

No idea if touring will re-inspire me on 2 wheels, worth a try!
Vinnyb: yes, I have a couple of shocks out in the garage ripe for conversion. I also saw your very nice, largely unmolested 9k bike  :) Very nice, surely there's a bit of life left in the shock, or are you just not impressed with standard suspension front 'n' back?

Hi Kebab19, Thanks for the comments on the bike :thumbup  My wife often rides pillion and although the original copes with the weight ok at the moment with the preload 3 clicks from max, and still looks almost new, I thought a better shock would feel more controlled and better damped with luggage and pillion at higher speeds. The forks feel much better now, with fresh 10w oil and 2 rings showing on the preload. I think I'll get a pair of springs suited to my weight before long but I'm not sure about the emulators 'til  I've ridden without them to see how it feels. I grew up riding old shonkers from the 70s and 80s and even my more modern bikes haven't had top quality suspension so I kind of don't miss what I've never had. I was thinking of the reworked R6 rear cos those on here who have fitted them are really impressed with the improvement and I was curious to try one. As I've said in previous posts I would sacrifice ultimate track day handling for real world comfort on the shitty roads we have in the UK nowadays.

....aaaaand I'm back again :) .

The FJR1300 was almost perfect for me except I always found it very heavy, frighteningly so when  two-up. Two-up touring was half the reason I bought it, so that plan didn't quite work out.  In truth I prefer a lighter bike for the twisties.

Anyway, coming back with a 2002 FZS1000. Technically I'm a traitorous rat who has deserted the 600 owners but hey, it's a Fazer  :lol

I owned an FJR for several years and sold it last year. I had a fling with a 1000 V-Strom but that didn't work out and now it sits in my garage until March/April when it will be sold. Then I bought a 1000 Fazer. I love it, the Mrs loves it. Can't be bad eh?
