Finally have her all back together  :D

Valves shimmed, plugs changed, coolant changed, exhaust studs drilled out and replaced with stainless, front of engine painted and a general clean of all areas I cant normally get to.

Throttle body sync tomorrow!

Before and after pics! Not perfect but much better than before :)

I did mine last week also.

Have seen a video of a guy who managed to get them out from the sides without having to remove anything.

I removed radiator and it was still a faff on to get the leads in and out!

Yeah I ended up buying 7 shims from Yambits and re-using a couple of my old ones :)

Bike just clocked over 30k so thought I would give the valves a check.

Ordered a few shims which arrived today.

Also ordered new stainless exhaust studs (gona be such a laugh trying to remove old ones), new coolant and some shiney Simoniz engine enamel, may as well do the whole lot while she's in bits!

Well, went with what you guys said and cracked on.

Easier than I thought so far. Double and treble checked all the valves. Camshafts are now out, measured a couple of shims to see if what I had been scribbling down was correct and all looks good so far.

On the intake side, I think Im gona re-shim all the .13s and .14s, and exhaust side all the .23s and .24s.

After re-checking all valves again that would mean 9 shims required.

I really hope this is right  :rollin

Cheers.

Hmm, not really what I wanted to hear :'( lol

Really should do them while its part stripped but I dont like the idea of taking cams out as I have never done it before.

A little daunting to say the least.

Hi Guys,

First time I have ever done this so just wanted some words of advice really.

Have checked the clearances as best I can ( I hope :S) some of the tolerances seem right on the edge of minimum.

Would you recommend leaving them, or if shimming is required, which ones?

Worth getting someone else to double check?

Have attached picture of my measurements.

Many thanks in advance :)

They look identical to the R&G heated grips which I use.

Cheap, nice and hot, no problems yet. Can also buy spares direct from their website too should there be any issues.

I wired mine to rear light via relay just to be safe.

This is the same type that I bought. Does what it says on the tin. Only one downside it that it can only connect to other headsets of the same type. Wont connect to any branded Sena or Scala etc.

Thats never been an issue for me as I have no friends anyway haha

The cheap Ebay ones are cracking for the money. I bought a pair for talking to the wife on back of the bike.

When Im out solo it connects to my phone no problem, listen to music, FM radio or use it Sat Nav though phone. Plenty loud enough and easy to fit. Battery lasts ages too.

Cant complain for the price and its never once let me down.

I could probably wire them directly to the battery and never forget to switch them off but its just for peace of mind really.

Looking into a relay tapped into main bean as an easy option up to now.

Cheers.
