Jesus, that was the quickest sale I've ever had, listed it and it's had gone within 10 mins :D , sad in a way as it's been a blast but needs must and all that, still got an old CB750 to restore to keep my hand in the road bike scene. I have got a front set of pipes with EXUP Valve, a blue tail section and a blue tank that will need to be sold off too.

Just done mine, I know your not interested in the tapping route but seriously it's no big deal, just go steady and jobs a goodun, and it looks nice and clean with the cap bolts........ if you want you can have my old tap set, blanking plugs were a few quid off ebay. :lol

« on: 02 March 2016, 08:42:13 pm »
The EXUP is the one thing that I don't like on my bike, so many bikes do without any form of 'power valve' in the exhaust, to my mind it just limits your choice of aftermarket exhaust systems to pretty much zero, and all the shit they can give when they seize up etc, is it really worth it ? I think not.

They work fine if serviced regularly, just like the bike itself

That they do buddy but the truth is lots of folk don't service them (doesn't the manual say they don't need servicing??) and when you do have to service them there stands a good chance all the bolts will snap off getting the valve out which is a nightmare, got the tee shirt I'm afraid when I first bought my gen1. I even bought a second hand set of header pipes as spares. Like I said before plenty of bikes out there do without very successfully, Yams own XJR1300 springs to mind

I've always read on here that the gen1 is pretty much useless without the EXUP value, won't even ride ????

General / Ultrasonic cleaners, any good ?
« on: 20 February 2016, 07:08:15 pm »
Just bought an old 750 Honda to restore and I'm thinking of buying an ultrasonic cleaner, not too sure how they work or if the ones the 'hobbyist' buys are any good?, any of you guys have any experience or advice (carb cleaning).

Cheers

Yep thats the one buddy, it should be a no brainer but man its giving me grief, the pipe looks OK and is not rusted up, they may have sent the wrong seal but I got it off Fowlers as per there website........I'll check the number you gave to the one they sent.

Google Yambits, I've also used a site in Holland that are pretty cheap, I'll try and get the link up

Sorry unfazed it's the outer metal water inlet pipe that feeds the pump, it bolts on the side of the crank case just in front and below the gearbox sprocket, it's got a single large O ring to seal it, the whole affair is only held in by a single Allen head bolt. It should be a piece of piss to fit but I'm having a right game with it, I'll try and post a pic of one I found online

Yes mate genuine O ring seal from Fowlers, I ended up using a slightly smaller O ring out of my O ring tub. There is only two ways to fit this, firstly by pushing the O ring into the orifice until it sits on the casing shoulder or actually fitting the seal over the metal tube prior to trying to insert the metal pipe home.....both fail until I fitted the slightly smaller O ring. Is there any American forums I could post onto to see if any of them boys have come across this??

Yep it was well lubed up prior to trying to get it in, anybody who's had the engine oout would have had to have taken this pipe off at some point I would imagine?, both the Haynes and the genuine yam manual are pretty much useless, it was a pig to get the pipe out when I stripped it TBF, I was even thinking of filing a leading edge on the pipe to see if that easier.

Just putting the gen 1 back together after doing the water pump seals, come to put the metal water pipe back on the engine (the short one under the gearbox sprocket) and what a pig to fit. Even tried a new o ring thinking that that was the problem, basically the thing will not go in and sit properly, I've tried putting the seal onto the pipe then trying to sit it home....no good, I've also tried putting the seal in the casing then pushing the pipe in, still no good.
I've ended up using a smaller o ring stretched over the pipe then it sits home ok but my concern is that it will leak, has anybody come across this before ??

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Water leak on gen 1 but from where ?
« on: 06 February 2016, 09:01:19 pm »
Only just got around to doing the pump seals today, must admit not too bad of a job but quite time consuming, I had to order more gaskets/o rings than I first thought I would have needed, fingers crossed it's worked
