Unfortunately it was the fire at Reeves furniture shop that put Croydon on the "burning" map.If that hadn't occurred then the rioting in Croydon would have attracted no more attention than Tottenham,Clapham etc. All of it carried out by total scumbags.

I bet it was Frosties, he went into the furniture shop to buy an old persons riser chair and they asked him to remove his helmet but couldn't undo it with old arthritic fingers, he got a bit arsey and torched the place.

That's the way he rolls. :rolleyes

Don't foc with Tiger  :fish

I only went in 'cos I needed a piss, the riser chair had a thick cushion so seemed perfect for the job. Did my business and the cheeky bastards started to complain............I wasn't in the mood for attitude and it all got a bit silly  :look

Don't know why they in the furniture shop complained, that is what usually happens to old people's riser chairs they get soaked in piss. Mine certainly has. That's what us old people smell of piss and peppermints. :lol

Well busy afternoon for me, removed the mono-shock/pogo stick from the back of the 600, removed the dog bones and the shock linkage, good clean up of all the parts, washed all the needle/roller bearings out with W/D40 and gave then a really good clean and dry, repacked them with red grease (more resistant to water than regular grease) and fitted the new Nitron shock.
I did the work with the bike on the centre stand but slipped some thin planks of wood under the back wheel so it did not drop when removing the bolts, new shock and all the bits just slipped into place no lifting pushing or pulling involved.
Jobs a goodun.

Before I started working on the old girl I put a sticky label on the seat fairing vertically above the centre of the rear wheel and measured up from the centre of the rear wheel spindle 400mm and put a line on the label, with the Nitron fitted it now measure 403mm.

The unladen (Just weight of bike) sag is only about 15mm so I will set that to about 30mm in the morning it might just drop the measurement back to 400mm as well.

Then in a week or two will start on the front forks, I still need to source some linear springs. I have 15 weight fork oil and the YSS Emulators and a pillar drill in Terry's workshop (Wild Plum's)  so almost ready to go on that.

Will take the bike out and try the new shock after setting the sag adjustment tomorrow.

« on: 04 December 2016, 07:08:37 pm »
Retired brickie here, I'm with Sharpie and Red also. 2 inch number 8 screws times 2, brown rawlplugs.
I personally would put the screws 3 or 4 inches in from either side of the mirror in the place you wish to hang the Mirror, that way the forces will be almost straight down,

(Also helps reduce the seesaw/swinging action associated with centre hanging)

Make sure that the fixings in the mirror frame itself are good.
Using 2 inch screw will ensure that the screws go into the brickwork or blockwork and not just into the plaster.
Another thing you can do is put a washer over the screws before screwing them into the wall they help stop the hanging wire lifting off the screws so easily.

They say 'Time is a great healer' Trouble is while we are waiting it still pains.
I shot my old cat a few years ago, he had kidney failure and I felt that it was my responsibility to send him home.
Stupid I know but I got really upset about losing the old boy, we do get very attached to our pets.

....or if not, does anyone know of a  backstreet bike bodywork / paint place, manned by a guy called Paul, off Newland Avenue (opposite Lloyds bank IIR)  in Hull?  I lost his number, can't find him on T'interweb, and need his services again. I'd like to know he's still trading at least before making the journey....

Come on Wharfe who is going to admit to living in Hull :lol

Wasnt the best year of my life  :lol the worst of it was my bike insurance went from £80 fully comp to £550 3rd party only with only 2 companies insuring riders with criminal convictions and I had to pay that for 7 yrs until I was classed as rehabilitated , oddly didn't affect my car insurance though ... go figure

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Nasty Surprise
« on: 04 December 2016, 09:46:28 am »
Just a thought, would welding the sprocket and retaining nut onto the driven shaft from the gear box cause the welded parts to lose its tempering and soften the steel?

There is a problem when welding on cars, so assume it is the same with motorcycles, with the alternator/generator, the voltage from electric welding can fry them, I believe the alternator should be removed from a car before welding , don't know if the same rule applies to the on-board computer, might be wise to ask the question of someone who really knows before going ahead, cos, you just might make your situation worse.

As mentioned in here earlier their has been incidents of the front sprocket coming right off the shaft causing the drive chain and back wheel to lock up, not good.

The original sprocket retaining nut was 9mm thick and Yamaha recognised this was an issue and produced a replacement nut being 12mm thick, this is supposed to cure the problem, well that's OK if the nut has come undone and has been noticed straight away but if the bike has done sufficient miles with the sprocket and nut chattering away it trashes the threads on the end of the gearbox shaft, then it seems you are left with two options a strip down of the engine and replace the gearbox shaft (Expensive and time consuming) or weld the new sprocket on.
So my guess would be the shaft in your gear box is f----d, hence the welding that's been done.  :'(

General / Re: Baffle causing leaness?
« on: 03 December 2016, 03:15:27 pm »
Hi Slappy,
My understanding is that it is not so crucial on a 4 stroke, but, on a 2 stroke removing all the baffles is the kiss of death because the 2 stroke does not have exhaust valves and relys on the restriction of a baffled exhaust to retain back pressure, I know that there are very noisy expansion boxes for strokers but their design/shape helps retain the back pressure.

As back pressure is not so important on a 4 stroke because of the exhaust valves doing the job I would think that it would do very little to the mixture to Petrol/Air ratio. I know with my race can (PipeWerks) it says in the bumph that come with it, that no mixture adjustments is necessary with or without the baffle in. The only real difference then if that is true is the sound and maybe, just maybe, the exhaust gasses clear the system a tad quicker, where or not that would impact on power I don't know if it did it would be for the positive i would imagine.

If anyone knows different to that please do say as I am only going on what I have heard and read and not through any real knowledge or experience.

Other than removing the baffles with a 2 foot long piece of galvanised water pipe and a club hammer many many years ago on a 250cc Ambassador Villier 2 stroke twin, it made a huge difference to the way the bike performed, with baffles in 82 mph with baffles out 72 and absolutely gutless, reverse tuning I believe its called.
Anyway Miniear & Bruce of Guildford ordered me to new silencers that cost me 23 quid, it don't sound much I know but it was in the late 60's.

I had a similar thing happen to me back in the 70's I pulled into a garage in Milford Surrey gassed up went in and paid for the fuel and bought a pint of oil as I knew the old Hillman Minx needed a drink, without thinking chucked my wallet on the roof while I replenished my oil slammed the bonnet jumped in the car and shot off, about a min later I had a car up my arse flashing and tooting at me so I banged the old girl down one (4 speed column change) as gassed it I started to pull away from him but he kept on flashing his lights and i was not going to lose him so I jammed on the brakes jumped out the car slammed my door and walked aggressive up to him and he handed me my wallet and said it came off the roof as you pulled out of the garage, my faced glowed like an electric fire I felt about 2 foot tall (Mind you I am only 2 foot 6 anyway  :rolleyes ) I thanked him he did a 3 point turn and disappeared back the way he came, he must of been chasing me for about 4 miles after he initially caught me up, so I guessing he went about 4 or 5 miles out of his way to return my wallet and I acted like that towards him.   :o
Thinking about it now my face has gone red again, what a twat. :'(

Well I have never ridden the 1K but I love the retro look of the Gen1 am seriously thinking about it, seizing up Exups and all.
But with saying that I would never get rid of my FZS 600 even with the quirks on the handling front.
(I'm in the process of sorting that)
But the 600 is great on the back lanes and roads, not too heavy and accelerates nicely between bends, power is not too harsh and the blue spot front brakes are brilliant on the lighter 600, OK back brake leaves a bit to be desired, but, I understand that the blue spot 1K back brake caliper fits, maybe when I have finished my suspension project.
Everyone seems to think that going down the Renthal bars route is also worth while by adding a bit off leverage, is this fact or fiction I ask, do all the cables and switches and lever and throttle twist grip still fit.

Years ago I blasting up the road that was then called the A3 (Before the bypass was built) which at that time went right through the centre of Liphook in Hants, well just before reaching Liphook going Northbound heading towards Guildford there is a railway bridge that is on a sharpish S bend by the Golf Course I was entering the first element of the S bend(its a sharp flick left then instantly right and under the bridge) and had a rabbit run right through the front wheel of my BSA 650 Super Rocket that had wire spoke wheels.
I did not realise a rabbit could spread so far and make so much mess all over my legs, it was like 3 pound weight of blood and mince meat all over me, stop, turn around and back home to change.   :'(

Ever since fitting the Pc3 and mapping my bike I developed a major exhaust leak at the join between link pipe and end can so took that apart today and used some liquid gasket to seal it. Figured I'd give it a clean and polish while I was there and replace the bolts with nice new stainless ones. All in all quite productive 😊

Also to add real insult to injury, listen as the attendant gets a bollocking and walk out with policeman and thank him for his kindness, slowly start to put your bucket and scarf and gloves on and wave at the bobby as he drives out of the forecourt. Then walk back into the kiosk smiling at the attendant walk over to the coffee machine stick you hand in your pocket get out some cash and purchase a coffee and walk out. :rollin :rollin :evil

Seriously though I have heard of attendants refuseing to enable the pump until the biker has removed his or her helmet. Trouble is nine at night 25 miles from home with the fuel light been on for the last 20 minutes of your ride.
Take your bucket off pay them 20 quid on your card and make sure you put in £20-49 pence, go back in to the kiosk and offer them your card to pay the extra 49p and grin at them, it costs usually 50p for every card transaction, and most garages will not let you use a card for any sales less than £5.
Oh! Sorry mate never carry cash as I find I don't need to in a world of plastic. Make sure you have the broadest grin on your face, really exaggerate it. It makes them scratch their heads, if they say you will have to put in another £4-51 to round it up to the minimum £5, sorry mate the tank is full would not hold another drop,  they then say they will have to charge you the minimum of £5 for the transaction refuse to put your card in the machine, see if they are going to call the police for 49pence, and what a twat they are going to look when the police turn up and you explain what has happened. Especially as you have NO CASH, I don't think the police will search you.
Fuck them all. :lol
I hate the stupidity of the garages as much as anyone else, go along with them then turn it around and laugh at them.
I wouldn't mind betting the copper puts his hand in his pocket and pays the 49p for you, then bollocks the attendant for wasting police time. :lol

Oh yes! I remember another but I am a little hesitant calling it a bike.
It was a Norman Nippy, we used to call it 'The Quick 50 RUNBESIDE' cos my mates could keep up with it by running, but I used to always win cos I never ran out of breath. 49cc twist and go with bicycle pedals. 15 or 16 mph on the flat about 25 down hill, had to pedal going up any hill or slight gradient. Battleship grey.
I had that little beaut when I was 14, the local Bobby was always threatening me, but, never actually did anything about it. Thank you PC Shopland XXX  :rollin
