« on: 25 March 2017, 06:41:42 pm »
The bike should be fully warmed up before you adjust the idle that's why it's going to 2100 when it warms up. The throttle position sensor test is on page 6-10 of this manual http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=8 Sounds like more than a throttle position sensor issue. Has the bike been parked up for a while? The pilot jets sound like they might need a clean and balance.

If you can feel a repeated clunking through your foot pegs as you're riding there's probably a stiff link in the chain. If you look at the chain the stiff one often sits up more than the others. Check all the links again. You can use two pliers and give them a good wiggle. If the chain is worn or there's a stiff link it's best to replace it.  Have a read through that manual it'll tell you everything you need to know.

Hi His Dudeness,
i have seen the download that you posted the link to, is there do you know a download for the later version of the FZS 600 Foxeye 2002-2003?
I know they are basically the same bike but there are a few differences.
Ie: chain slack, a couple of  carburetor differences, front fork and a few other differences.
Pukka one for the bike would be handy I have a Haynes manual but the real one would be good.

Here you are I did this last year in sit-u here is my post
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finished it off today, 1st out for a 10mile spin to get the filler fully hardened and then some masking off and a spray with Rust-oleums stove and bbq paint. It took so long to mask off that it would of been quicker to take it off but as I have never taken it off I have no time for "unknowns" as I plan to get the MOT on Monday. (my stud nuts are good as I have had them off and copper greased)
Just need to take it for another spin tomorrow to bake on the paint
I usually use Granviles engine paint but have found that it can flake off, somewhere on this forum a member recommenced the Rust-oleum so I thought I would give it a go.

Here are my 2 little holes - first pic before a good going over with a wire wheel on a drill
Next picture after a set to with the drill
Next and still to come will be photos now I have filled with gun gum I just need some dry roads to give it a run and heat it up to full hardening

Pretty sure the later 02/03ish had stainless headers but the welds aren't so they still get holes in the collectors and joins...

Chris
After doing my post above I re-read Chris's post and he could very well be right as it was just the collector area that rusted on mine.
Knowing that is a bit of a piss off though, cos, I could have just got them plated up and welded with Migatronic.
Looking at Sharpie's pipe after a re-paint they look really good, would have saved me 220 quid.  :'(

My FZS 600 is a 2002 model, but 2003 registered, that that had black plain steel headers on it from new, they holed in the bottom of the collector area after about 28K miles, but the bike was used as a much loved commuter before I bought it, so it was used in all weathers, wet and salty roads.
S/S now in place. :D

Thanx guys il get to it tomorow :)

Thanks for the post guys and to Del Boy.

Just been out and done my brakes, after the video that was posted it leads on to another of Del's videos.
Cleaning the calipers not as a maintenance task, but, just as a part of your cleaning routine.
I spun my front wheel by hand before the clean up and it spun about 4 or 5 revolutions before coming to a stop, back wheel is difficult cos of the chain drag.
Anyway after following Del's video my front wheel no spins 10 or 11 revolutions before coming to a halt, obviously removed a lot of brake dust and crud from in the caliper.
The rear is harder to quantify because of chain drag but as cleaning the front has a least doubled the number of revolutions I am assuming that the rear has now improved as well.
One thing Del does say is 'DO NOT USE A PRESSURE WASHER ON THE CALIPER' because water can get forced under the piston seals and contaminate the hydraulic brake system.

The whole operation took about 20 minutes plus I gave it ten mins to start with to allow the hose water to help soften up the crud. :thumbup

Shit!  :grumble   then I am in trouble as I hadn't realise that the left hooker handlebars cost so much.
I only have about 7/21/2d.

Let me count up again: Half a Crown, a two Shilling bit, a Shilling bit, two sixpenny bits, two Thrupenny bits, 2 Pennys, a Hapenny, and a couple of Farthings, but my Mrs reckons that Farthings are no longer legal tender.

Makes me think now how did that foccing money work.
Half a crown was 2/6d, 2 Shilling bit was 2 Bob, 1 Shilling piece was a Bob, Sixpence was a Tanner, 3 Pence piece was a Thrupenny bit, the rest was just shrapnel.

20 Shillings to the pound, 12 Pennys to the Shilling, 240 Pennys to the pound, 2 Hapennys to the Penny and 4 farthings to the Penny.
Then just to make it difficult to understand, a 2 Shilling bit was not just known as 2 Bob it was also a Florin, A Half a Crown was not just 2/6d it was also known as Half a Dollar, A Sixpenny bit was not just a Tanner but was also known as a Sprassy, A Three Pence piece was not just a Thrupenny bit but was also known as a Joey.

I started driving BEFORE any licence was even needed
No - I actually started driving before the wheel was invented

You were riding before Noah built his Ark the only reason you survived was cos Noah felt sorry for you and allowed you on-board with your bike.
I got a photo from the inventory the day he set sail.

Thanks for the tips chaps, but the collector part is looking pretty ropy and I am looking to fit stainless headers when funds allow, so I need to sort out the nuts/studs anyway. Thing about the Yamaha nuts is, they are rusty as hell so they must be made out of recycled Austin All Aggro

Ghostcat

Ahh! The Austin All Aggro, what a piece of shit. I had one many years ago but to be honest it was not the only time that British Leyland painted a turd, there was the Morris Marina as well. it was about that time when British Leyland and MotherCare joined force and produced the Marina, the only car with a built in rattle.
How the f--k did they get away with it? 90 to 100K out of an 1800cc engine if you were very lucky, they used to burn oil as a fast rate of knots, what they did not burn they leaked out.
Is it any wonder that they went out of production with the likes of Honda producing the Accord and Toyota producing cars like the Corona and Corolla. Sadly the British bike market went the same way and to be honest (IMO) it was no wonder the Honda 250 Dream was faster than most British 500's a lot more reliable handled better and did not thrown 1/2 pint of oil up you shin every 50 miles. RIP British Leyland (You Bastards) :eek

Hi Tiercel,
The picture that you posted above seems to be the same picture that you posted a few days ago, but your post leads us to believe it it a different picture taken since you used brake cleaner and kitchen roll on it, I think you have re-posted the old picture and not the one you have taken since the clean up.
I have re-attached both of your pictures to this post for side by side comparison.

There is a mark on the sump near that allen screw that looks like it could be a crack, but you say you have checked it out so maybe it is just a coincidence.

I find it hard to understand how engine oil could leak out of the bolt hole, as I believe (Seems logical) the bolt holes are bottomed holes, unless of course the inside the sump or the engine block itself has a bit of material broken away forming a passageway for the oil to pass into the bolt hole, but that seems highly unlikely.

Back to your pictures, please see the circled part in pic 'sump2.jpg' it looks like a crack in the sump, but if you have given it a thorough clean and check it can't be.

Wouldn't give charity the steam off my sh!t. Biggest con in the country.

You really have not thought this out have you C C?
You seem to me to be a very selfish person who cares very little for anyone but yourself.
You care little for the efforts of others when they try to a positive and worthwhile thing, your comments are in bad taste about a biker who is killed, that young woman was someone's daughter and probably sister, girlfriend or wife she may also have been a mother.
You don't know these people or what they are like so why make such distasteful comments.
It seems to me you are a taker in life, and are willing to give nothing to anyone not even a word of sympathy.

I to hope that you never have to rely on the emergency services, but if you do you will be so glad that they are there for you, even if your not going to support them in any way.
The idea of the forum is to make friends, ok so we are not always going to get on with everyone, but that is the general idea, but I fear that if you do need advice or help with any aspect of your bike no one is likely to help you in any way.
So the only conclusion I can come to is that you are here to be disruptive and spiteful so why not go join the train drivers union and leave the old foccers to themselves.

I have a Go-Pro that I use on the bike, I have mine set at 720 and 30 GPs, 1080p gets you very large files sizes. I tried my camera on the top of my bucket (helmet) but found at the faster speeds it tended to drag my head back, causing severe neck ache forcing head forwards all the time. The Go-Pro has a big front profile and catches the wind a lot, I tried it on the right hand side of my helmet but found that my helmet blocked some of the kerbside view and again it caught the wind and caused a lot of buffering and wind noise.
I now have a sturdy handlebar clamp and shot video through the screen of the bike, I also purchased a skeleton housing that allows better sound recording and the camera is protected from wind, rain and stone chip behind the screen. Another option is a chest harness that you wear, good for mountain biking and running as well.

I'm pleased I'm not the only one. When people in front don't put dividers on the checkout conveyor I place a high value gift card in their goods before putting our lot ready for scanning....
Ha
There thing s ding that, its you who has to wait whilst the till person has to faff about cancelling it.

Again on supermarkets - people who decide they now dont want an item half way around and just chuck it where they are so you find a chicken ontop of a packet of cornflakes

Mmmmmmm one of my favourites raw chicken and cornflakes.

If people are going to be prosecuted for driving 1mph over the limit then car manufacturers need to ensure they comply with speed limits by fitting calibrated speedos, as opposed to lenient speedos, to new cars with a warranty matching the rest of the car. If I had say a new Ford and was prosecuted for driving according to the speedo then I would be looking to counter act Ford.

Yeah but on the other hand Tiger if you bought new Ford you should be foccing prosecuted. :lol
