Riding along today on a back country road I see a length of wire or pipe in the road and think " I dont want to run over that only on passing do I realise its a snake about 3 foot long - and that was bendy snake shape, I turned around and went back so I could grab him and get a photo but he had gone.

If it was an indigenous snake and not a escaped pet one it would have been a grass snake, not poisonous but you still need to be careful with the buggers cos the spit foul smelling stuff to warn off would be attackers, and contrary to some peoples beliefs they will bite you.

I worked on the building sites for many years and came across a number of snakes both Adders (Vipers) and Grass snakes, Adders rarely go more than 18 inches long the female is the bigger of the two. Grass snake can, but not often reach 6 foot in length, (Very Rare) the longest I have seen was about 3 foot 6 inches long and I would not have wanted that bugger to bite me, it did spit at me thankfully missed but the stench nearly made me puke, the infamous builder shovel put paid to that sod, again the female are the larger of the species.
Grass snake are not poisonous but neither is a rat but both would make you feel very poorly for a day or two and you might get a localised infection on the would site.

I feel you are talking about a relative when I saw the title of your post Sharpie, well if he was gone when you got back to the spot he was also a racing snake.

I agree it is painful. I am fortunate enough where I live as I have Virgin fibre optic BB, my Download speed runs at 160 Mbps & 12 Mbps Upload and even with that connection speed I end up just shutting down FOC-U as it sometimes can take a minute of two just to load a post or upload a comment. :'(

Theres a twat in our town how's always giving it large, focin idiot got right under my skin, I won't slap him (don't need the trouble with the law) but I did yank him off his barstool a couple of weeks ago when he lent into me, his face was a picture, I didn't do anything was all he kept repeating, stares at the floor when he see's me in the street now. Suits me tbh.

Good move Joe, I like it, the twat was no hero just a mouth firing blanks.

Some one once said to me and I quote 'Some guys are like ducks that fart under water, there is lots of noise but absolutely no substance'

Cheers for that Dude I rather like the look of that will have a look on evilBay see I can find one, not sure about a red on though might slow the old girl down. Lol!
In the mean time i found this soft rubber fob in my Man Drawer, so it will do until I can find a SILVER fob like the one you showed. :lol
The problem was I had a few other keys, including Yale front door key, along with the ignition key and they were doing the damage.

Yeah I had a similar problem with my old bike hence the purchase. I now all 3 of my lock keys on there along side the ignition key. Then keep my house/car/garage Keys on a separate keyring in my pocket.seems to be a good system so far. I did try the whole single ignition key thing but found I kept leaving it in the bike haha so the £5 for the key sock thingy was well spent. Not sure I've ever seen a silver one though but that's probably because people with silver bikes don't like to look after them 😉

Doh!
I bet they do make SILVER ones but the trouble is they are so fast its a job to spot them :lol

Now there's a topic of conversation:
What is a coward?

Some imagine it is a man who backs away from trouble and doesn't want to fight, I personally think if you can walk away (sometimes you can't) it is the sensible thing to do.

A coward and bully can very often be the same person, because both pick on someone they are 95% sure that they can get the better of.
It seems then that a coward and a bully are the exact opposite to a Hero

I think that when the chips are really down and in a life threatening situation that is when true hero's come to the fore, that is also when a true coward and a bully usually back away.

The person who puts his or her life on the line for others are very often the quiet ones in life, they are also the people that look past their own interests and are concerned for others to the point that it can cost themselves dearly.

We saw it during 9-11, the insignificant little person doing paper shuffling in a office back room become a true hero when the towers fell, because he or she led others to safety not thinking of their own safety but that of others.
I imagine that there were hero's on Westminster Bridge the day the car ran amok killing and injuring those people, you know the quiet ones often who tend to others and will often just vanish when the emergency services turn up.

I would imagine your average bully would not put themselves at risk because that is what they are cowards.
So walking away in some situations is cowardly, but at times its the right thing to do.
I have a mate that some 40 years ago now was being picked on by a guy and 5 of his mates at a disco one Saturday night, and as Billy did not respond to these guys taunting's it got worse, they probably thought he is not going to respond so we are not at risk and they upped the piss taking and pushing, there were 3 of us and Billy said to us leave it as he did not want to get involved.

I don't know what was said but one of the guys leant over Billy's shoulder and said something in his ear, Billy was at the bar facing the counter, I can picture it today as if it was just happening, Billy spun around like he had been hit by 10,000 volts and cracked this guy in the face so hard I can still hear the sound of the single punch landing, the police were called the guy was ambulanced away and Billy arrested, none of our pleas to the police made any difference. Billy was let out of the police cell about 3 pm the following day after police had taken witness statements from the bar staff and others at the disco.
We were told that the guy had to have his face wired up because Billy had broken his jaw and his upper cheek and had split his head open when he hit the floor and skidded about 15 feet across the dance floor.
Still to this day I don't know what the guy said to Billy and he will not say. I just hope I never say what it was he said. lol.
Billy is a tough guy and that is why these guys were giving him a hard time, reputation building I guess.

Only if they've put it on their Harley

Top Yoke was looking a bit tatty where keys have scuffed an arc into the paint finish, so removed yoke and sanded it down a good coat of etching primmer, two under coats, 3 colour base coats and two good clear lacquer coats. It was black but now it metallic silver, I painted the handle bar posts at the same time but kept the clamps black.

Also removed other two keys from the ignition key so should not happen again. :sun

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Clutch won't fully engage when hot
« on: 03 April 2017, 11:17:05 pm »
One thing that might be worth doing is to draw the clutch push rod out of its location, just in front of the sprocket (After removing the sprocket cover) and wipe it over with some grease before pushing back, also make sure the clutch mechanism return spring is still in place as the are quite a fine wire gauge spring and can snap where the hook onto the mechanism.
Also make sure the ball bearing is in place in the clutch mechanism.

Agrees with Skip what a piece of shite that bike is (In the video) I don't think I would have bothered cleaning the headers anyway.
He does live near thew sea though, you can here the gulls screeching in the background.
Whats with all the electrical wiring and connector blocks hanging down the front of the bike.

My mums not.
but you are  :rollin :rollin

LOL touche :pokefun

A couple of pics of me going to a kids youth group party two years ago, I went as 'Dame Edna Everage' to give out prizes. Well that's my story anyway, he he.
I walked through my village like it to get to the local village hall, I received a few wolf whistles and some jaunty remarks, its funny though that those that shout out things like 'faggot' only do it when they are about 100 yards passed you, lol
Anyway it was a fun night and someone dared me to go into the local pub and buy a pint, I declined, cos, guys with beer inside them don't wait till they are 100 yards away to say something. lol :rollin :rollin

I will tell you what gets my goat:
It is when I order bits of bling or jewellery for my bike, even if it is none functional bling, like the parts I just bought, and I order the wrong size and the effort and cost of returning it make it almost not worth it.

So up for grabs see picture below first come first served, message me with a postal address and I will send off tomorrow.

They are preload adjusters (I know they will do nothing on the FZS600) and i think they look cool, bling I know, But I ordered 17mm ones by mistake when the fork top nut on the FZS600 is 19mm, don't know what else they will fit, but I know they fit the R6 whether they fit a thou I don't know.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: How Does My Sprocket look To You

Nothing counts until you've ridden the bike through the winter with salted roads!!!
Harsh, but true  ;)

Fazerider,
I often wonder if one of the problems with the sprocket nut coming undone could be down to a poorly maintained chain, dry graunchy old links that strains to bend tight to go round the small front sprocket and all this happening at an incredible high speed, whether it could causes an effect a bit like a hammer drill/heavy vibration on the sprocket gradually shaking the the damn thing to bits. One indication of that could be vibration in the front footrests.

Slappy,
Thanks for the link it makes interesting reading and puts a new slant on torque and how to apply it and the effects of different lubes on torqued fasteners.

But does the premise still hold then?

That a torque wrench set to XNm will only apply XNm before the torque wrench breakaway point, no matter if it is lubed or not? Because it seems logical that the force of XNm is XNm whether lube is applied or not, its just that the passage to XNm is easier because the lube overcomes friction, because if it is not then I need to rethink all I have ever understood about applied forces.
Thanks for the contributions guys  :thumbup

I think its all a bit academic in some ways, because i hear some saying never ever apply Loctite to the front sprocket nut because you you really, really struggle to get it undone again. Then I hear people say they always apply Loctite to all their brake fixings, disk bolts and caliper bolts, one guy said to me that he applies Loctite to the pinch bolt on his front axle, that seems like a nightmare waiting to happen if you get a puncture in the front tyre miles from anywhere, is that Loctited allan screw going to come out?
I am aware that you are hardly likely to snap off a steel bolt in the fork leg (Mudguard Mounts) but you could strip out the softer alloy threads in the leg because of Loctie, in some ways the first situation would be better if the bolt did shear at least you would have the option of drilling out the sheared bolt and cleaning the thread with a tapered and then a plug tap, but the threads being pulled out of the fork leg would be a different proposition, it would mean a Helicoil or a new fork leg.
I know that I will continue to apply a dab of Copper Slip to the nuts and bolts that are removed on a regular basis for maintenance.
I have reached a grand old age now and have never had a bolt come out, or, even loose because of lube applied to threads and when I do need to remove the there is a better chance of not snapping or stripping threads, Steel Sparkers in alloy heads certainly benefit from a dab of copper slip, I have heard many times that guys have sheared off sparkers trying to get them undone.

Sorry for my long dissertation, I know it winds up some on here, but I guess the answer is don't read it.
Cheers guys  :guitar
