FZS600 Fazer / Re: Trying to make it all fit.
« on: 05 July 2017, 11:20:18 pm »

It is when your testicles rest on the indicators your in trouble. Never ridden a bike loaded up like that, does it impair the handling much? My guess is it makes filtering an interesting task.
You're in more trouble when your throwovers rest on your testicles :lol  Never ridden this one fully loaded but previous bikes haven't been too bad once you get used to the way the extra weight affects the steering ,CofG etc. I find it's worse at low speed so filtering for me at least is pretty much off the agenda. I dare say I'll get criticised from certain parties for admitting it but even without all the luggage I tend not to try to squeeze through small gaps. :rolleyes

It's only a tight gap when the car either side of you have foot peg scratches down to the primer, other than that your good to go.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: output shaft viable repair ???
« on: 05 July 2017, 08:42:51 am »
Personal view

The sprocket nut is there to stop the sprocket sliding off the output shaft.

It doesn’t need to tighten flush with the sprocket to do this.

The output shaft is the fault on some of the fazers.  The grooves in some output shafts are cut slightly too wide.

This allows the sprocket to move backwards and forwards on the shaft when placed under load or off load.

Because the nut is tight against the sprocket it continually rotates slightly on the threads… wearing them out.

The answer in my opinion is grind down the flange on the sprocket nut so that when it tightens on the shaft it is simply flush with the sprocket but does not tighten against it…. And put some grease on the sprocket to further ease the junction between the nut and sprocket.

Therefore there is insufficient ‘grip’ between the sprocket and the nut so it doesn't turn the nut.

In essence you want to tighten the nut up on the output shaft but not tighten it up against the sprocket.

Hi Paul, Just a quickie would that not allow the sprocket to chatter on the shaft causing to to the same shaft wear problems on the splines.

They also do very nice walking boots, again available in 5 widths.  Extra narrow, narrow, normal, wide and extra wide. I like wide.
Here next to my old Meindl, which themselves are really good boots but they pinched my toes.  Hard to find wide fit boots.

Yeah but you don't need walking boots if you have a FZS 600 cos they don't break down. Ahhhhh! I see why you bought then now, how is the thou going  :rollin

My best with Yogi was a Mitsubishi Evo VII with a reported 500Bhp. Always done him to a ton by half or a full bike's length - same drag distance from work to a set of lights maybe 3 or 4 times a month. This guy had spent a lot of money and yup.....you could see he was quietly bubbling - never looked at me when we stopped but I always gave him the thumbs up at around 80mph  :lol :lol .

Errr sorry BB....Yogi never went over 5k rpm in these moments *cough* :look

Tut tut! So childish.  :rollin

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Debrix Emulators for FZS 600 forks
« on: 01 July 2017, 03:25:14 pm »
Well now, a useful update for those still considering the mod  :)

Thanks to Debtman for pointing this out - Wemoto are now stocking YSS emulator valves for £68.  Saves on all that International postage and Import Tax tomfoolery  :lol

http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/yamaha/fzs_600_fazer_sp/00/picture/fork_valves/

I should probably rename this thread to YSS Emulators...

Thanks for that link, it was on the first page of a Google search, you sure you're not a Google employee  :rollin

Work for them !don't make me laugh I think Jeff owns Google.

If you are seriously thinking about the upgrade to emulators I can vouch for the quality of the ride after the work is done, provided its done methodically, its important to work accurately and cleanly leaving no bits of swarf anywhere with in the fork tubes, be exacting when it come to measuring out the holes in the damper rods to overcome the damping effect of the rods themselves.
Couple this with some quality weight matched linear springs and the ride will be transformed, the only issue will be the back end will feel like a bowl of jelly if you still on the original Yamaha yoo yoo damper. I went the Nitron R1 shocker route, but, their is a member (DevilsYam) on here that can supply you with a R6 shocker for a very reasonable price, and I have heard guys raving about them.

One other thing thing about the Emulators is that the later bikes had damper rods that are a little shorter than the earlier models and this effects the height that you start to drill out the damper rods.

I did my 2003 FZS 600 last winter and it has transformed the handling for me, the Mrs said that it is a better ride on the pillion as well as it has taken out the shock/jarring of suspension bottoming out but most of that will be down to the rear upgrade (the bikes not hers), but the front end is smoother has more feel, feels hunkered down on the surface and inspires confidence.

Good luck with the upgrade should you decide to do it.
lots of info on the site, Jeff (Kebab) has written loads on the upgrade.

Introduction / Re: Newbie
« on: 29 June 2017, 11:26:51 pm »
The later FZS600s have a different fairing and lights, which look like 'foxeyes'. Consequently the earlier bikes were subsequently named 'boxeyes' due to their square fairings and lights.  :)
There is an upgrade you can do to the Boxeye headlight it entails removal of the standard bulbs and fitting two tea light candles in their place.  :pokefun :fish

Same here, I didn't realise the Op was selling it or I would have kept my face shut.

Why keep your face shut? Just cos an addy in here has one for sale your opinion and/or experience of owning one is still valid.
I doubt BB likes arse kisses anyway :rolleyes

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Does the ignition key fit the seat lock?
« on: 25 June 2017, 11:47:09 pm »
Hi Guys just bought a FZ6 S2 and I was wondering if the ignition key is meant to fit the seat lock ? My ignition key will not open the seat up at all  :rolleyes
My FZS 600 has two different keys, I could be that one of the locks have been changed as I did not own the bike from new, but the ignition is different from the seat and the fuel, seat and fuel filler cap are the same , so I guess the ignition barrel may have been changed

I removed my Hero Blobs AKA Chicken Nipples as I found they stopped my elbows touching down. He he he  :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin

Yeah but come on Tom you don't need them on there anyways. At your age your testicles must touch the floor in a corner before the hero blobs do  :rollin :rollin :rollin
Yeah but only two of them  :eek :eek
I have a very nice tight pair of balls I will have you know, and I should know I check then enough.

This evening, thinking it would be cooler by then  :rolleyes , went to:

Lanercost Priory:

Hadrian's Wall:

And at Birdoswald:

Then up to the Hartside to cool off a bit, where I did see:

(inb4  :stop , cars!)

Then Solway Firth at Port Carlisle:

Where the foccin midgies were hungry.

Love the pictures of the old Fords, I had a mk2 1600E for a for a few years.

That Hadrian was a lazy cnut he stated the job just got foundation finished and got the superstructure up a couple of feet and quit the lazy bastard.

« on: 21 June 2017, 10:37:58 pm »
Finally talked Drew into doing his bike test so decided to look for a cheap 125 - like I had. Paid about £100 for it.

Bloody hell - what happened to the prices?! The only 125 under £500 was a write off with bits missing. Most of 'em were over a grand!

My 50cc cost £85, The 125 cost about £110 and the 250cc was around £200!

Yeah and I bet you bought it off Noah at that price.

Anyway back on topic:
I went out on the Fazer today up to Whitehill near Bordon in Hampshire and collected a paraplegic guy and drove him to the hospital for a dental appointment, I hasten to add that I drove him in his disability van with a tail lift and not on the back of the Fazer. After returning him back home and making him a cuppa I shot of back to the beach to top up my tan.
The Fazer behaved well, and, with all the work I did on the suspension over last winter my chicken strips are now down 10mm on the rear, and I still feel confident I shall lose them completely.

I was self employed brickie most of my working life -- swinging pic-akes,

What kind of a brick layer are you !!!

A retired one with no tan lines,  :eek
Wouldn't work for you Sharpie at 10 stone the sun would shine right through you  :rollin :rollin :rollin

Anyway Sharpie how are things up at the Manor? all well I hope.  :)

I was self employed nearly all my life, if you don't get the bricks down you don't get paid, and at one time (12 years) ran my own company 'Redtherm Builders Limited' had 13 guys working for me, we did everything from the ground works to the wiring, I had couple of Spreads (Plasters) on full time, a Chippie a Sparkie, and a Plumber and we all used to muck in if there was no plastering or wiring to do they all mucked in with the manual stuff and everyone got paid a full week, if they did not want to muck in they got paid for the days they worked at their trade, the beginning of a new build there aint no plastering to do or wiring and very little plumbing, the system I had very soon sorted out the chaff from the wheat.
In the end I had 13 brilliant guys working full time for me and I looked after them and they in turn looked after me.
I always paid about 12 -15 quid a day more than most and the guys were loyal. Back then a good trowel commanded £80 a day I would pay them £95, seems funny to think of that now as a good trowel commands £200 a day, I was getting £180 a day 3 years ago when I retired.
Seems strange a manual trades person with the earning capacity of 52K a year.

Went down to Southsea and had a swim in the sea, was lovely and warm after the initial get the testicles wet.

At least they've fixed the Eastney sewage pumping station and extended the outfall now.

The old joke was that you didn't swim in the Solent at Portsmouth, you just went through the motions... ;)
is that in the naturist part of the beach?

Hi Robbie,
Yeah! that's the best part of the Southsea beach,  it's unusual not to find a spot on that beach unless it is a really really busy day, as I said in an earlier reply it was jammed packed full on Sunday, but yesterday being back to a normal working day it was fine. no sun tan lines on me. :eek :lol

Yeah! I heard they had a few problems there a few years back, but a lot of work has been done to the system and now the beaches have a good report, the sea yesterday was mill pool calm and absolutely crystal clear was great to swim in, once you got over the initial chill of getting your balls chilled. Sunday was manic down there hardly a spot on the beach, so I went down yesterday and was great plenty of room.

Did the bike run ok in the sea, Tommy?  :lol

Hiya Hedge,
First time i have ridden the bike for about 6 or 7 weeks, although I was away for a couple of weeks.
Been having trouble with my wrists (No rude comments thank you tommyardon and all that)

I was self employed brickie most of my working life, 70 now, and I now suffer with what has been classed as 'Impact and Rotation Damage' basically the joints in my wrists have worn out, Using breakers, swinging pic-akes, bricklaying and general hard manual work, the medics want to do bone fusion that will stop the pain issue but will limit me in other areas (Back to the tommyardon now :guitar ) but have decided against fusion at least for the foreseeable future.
Anyway it's been great to be out on the Fazer for the last few days.
The Old Girl has not been started in at least 5 weeks, so full of confidence summer jacket on (Not a white Feminine one like some very slim Fazer owners wear I hasten to add) Bucket on my head, boots and gloves on and I head out to the shed, no choke, no touching of the throttle, quick poke of the button and she burst into life couple of quick blips on the twist-grip and she settled to rhythmical purr.
It has been great to be back on the Fazer I have probably done 200 odd miles in the last 3 days, down to the beach (That's your initial question answered Hedge)
and generally squirting around. Took her up to high speeds a few times in fact I did 65 mph twice both at the same time :lol :stop  [/size]
