General / The old & new together
« on: 05 November 2015, 12:27:28 am »
Met up with an old friend today. :)
My old FZ1 and that is my new MT-09 in the middle. Shame the FZ6 was not my old bike as well, I have had two FZ6's (S1&S2). The 6's were fun but after a while I did find them hard word. Really enjoyed the FZ1 but must admit I am loving the lightweight MT-09.

General / My MT-09
« on: 01 November 2015, 10:44:27 pm »
Added a few bits and pieces since I got the MT-09.
Puig Screen, Puig Crash Bobbins, front fender extender, rear hugger extender, motec rad guard, Givi tank bag .Tutoro Chain oiler.
Really am enjoying this bike, just so light have setup the suspension now and handles well. It is nice to enter a corner and not to be fighting the bike to get round it, feels really well planted. A joy to ride, okay the fuelling has had a remap by Yamaha still not perfect but not to bad.

General / Well she has gone
« on: 07 October 2015, 09:02:50 pm »
Well sorry to say have sold my FZ1 today. Will really miss it, a fantastic bike and have really enjoyed her. Only the old creaking bones have left me no choice. I have been looking around for a likely replacement and something a lot lighter and more comfortable upright position.
Looks like I am still sticking with Yamaha so looking for deals on a new MT-07, wish me luck.

Su Wong marries Lee Wong

Su Wong marries Lee Wong. The next year,
the Wongs have a new baby.
The nurse brings out a lovely, healthy, bouncy,
but definitely a Caucasian, WHITE baby boy.

'Congratulations,' says the nurse to the new parents.
'Well Mr. Wong, what will you and Mrs. Wong name the baby?'

The puzzled father looks at his new baby boy and says,
'Well, two Wong's don't make a white,
so I think we will name him...

Are you ready for this?

General / I know tyre threads suck
« on: 23 September 2015, 11:58:17 pm »
Waiting on a new front, current Angel ST has about 3000/3500 max on it. As you sit on the bike all the wear is on the left hand side. Roads in Spain are very abrasive loads of grip.
Think I had best do a reverse my route to what I normally do. Currently the old knees are behaving so taking advantage of getting out and about.  When heeling over it is not really surprising that the front end is wanting to tuck in. Hope the new tyre arrives tomorrow, bike just feels all over the place like this. The rear has about 1500 on it and the profile is already altering on that, so right handers as much as possible I think

Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) / Guy Martin
« on: 09 September 2015, 11:03:52 pm »
Just watched an interview Guy did on BBC N Ireland this evening. He was asked if he would be back racing next year. He never said yes , but he did not say no either. That accident has certainly taken it's toll on him. I just have a funny feeling he will perhaps take a year off.

General / More Comfortable
« on: 19 August 2015, 10:36:20 pm »
Okay straight question. Is the Gen 1 a more comfortable ride than the Gen 2. No bias please I am sure a few on here will be tired of me bitching about my knee problems. I thought I had got a result when I fitted the lowering kit for the front pegs. Sadly for me it has not worked out.
My wife is kicking off, ( fecking bike all you do is polish it blah blah) Any advice please !!!!! really I still love me bikes but getting pretty depressed now.I had a couple of projects I wanted  too get on with during the Spanish super heated summer. A mate let me sit on his HD, Think I would just say feck it than go down that route.
Advice please. :'(

General / This company to be avoided at all costs
« on: 31 July 2015, 04:27:37 pm »
If you need your bike bringing back from Spain or Portugal best to avoid this company.

Nice to know they did get the bikes back to the UK , not doubt they will claim it was a sub contractor so sue them, bloody disgraceful.

General / Lowering kit
« on: 18 July 2015, 12:19:25 am »
Thinking of fitting a 25mm lowering kit. Have hit the search section and see folk are also saying drop the forks by 10mm.
Anymore advice. I have just fitted lower front foot rests because of dodgy knees, Fitting them has made life more comfortable but because I find it difficult to fully straighten my knees now I a bit nervous now as I can only manage tip toes now. I am not that worried about ground clearance as my peg grounding days are behind me.
Looking at what is involved does not look that hard a job to carry out.
Any advice appreciated

General / My new lowered foot rests
« on: 15 July 2015, 01:30:56 pm »
Fitted these yesterday, drops the pegs down about 27mm. They are not as ugly as I first thought, think the design would have been improved if they had cast in a 45 degree support instead of just leaving it 90 degrees. They do fold inwards same as the stck ones but diffo reckon they would shear off if the bike drops on them. I have yet to try riding with them but a lot easier for me to sit on the bike now. Just waiting on the heat of the day going off and will have a wee run around the mountains at the back of me.

General / foot pegs
« on: 10 June 2015, 11:42:59 pm »
Anyone know of a way to lower the front foot rests. My peg grinding days are behind me now. I was hopinhg that if there was a lowering type kit or some other way to drop them a touch it may help ease the aches and pains on me old hips and knees.
The auld body has taken a battering over the years , arthurtis has taken hold now and riding the FZ1 is becoming very painful after a few miles. So it is find away to change the riding position or sadly look for something more comfortable to ride as I still love biking.
Cheers Lew

General / France to ban Headsets
« on: 30 May 2015, 08:00:30 am »
Just found this little nugget on the CBF forum, so if you are touring to France this summer this may affect you.

I'm copying this verbatim from another forum.
No further updates available at present

Just had this in response to the question " are they (French Government) going to ban the use of motorcycle headsets?" from a French member on another forum. He has been a good source of information and clarification about the true state of French laws in the past...

"Starting 1st July 2015, every hand-free device will be prohibited (be it wired, BT or whatever), whatever function it is installed for (music, phone, GPS...). This applies to cars and bikes. The only authorised devices will be... you guessed it... those sold by car manufacturers which can be voice operated. This is the current state of debility of our current government...".

So, no Sat nav or rider to pillion or bike to bike comms in France from July onwards..

I know that in France there has been a fair number of "laws" that have been proposed, but never actually made it through, but this one seems to be getting pushed through successfully...

Cross your fingers this one falls flat...

General / Were you got your oiler
« on: 11 April 2015, 10:56:22 pm »
Curious were others have fitted a Scott oiler, I have mine as in the attached photo, may not look pretty but easy to top up and keep an eye on the levels, how many miles are you getting before topping up? Think I get about 500/600 miles. I do use a chain lub aerosol as well but only straght after was the bike and cleaning the chain.

General / have read somewhere
« on: 11 April 2015, 10:44:42 pm »
I remember reading on the forum about ways to improve the handling on the FZ1. One was to drop the fork yoke by 1cm. Would this be what I would need to do. Back off the Allen screws both side and tap it down the required 1cm, or have I got this all wrong, soory for sounding like a knob.
