Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / main diff's FZS / FZ1
« on: 13 November 2013, 05:58:48 pm »
At the risk of being labelled an idiot can some one explain the main differences between the FZS and the FZ1. Would an FZS be better suited for an older rider, as in this old fart!! Would the riding position be kinder than the FZ1.
I currently have an FZ6 N S2 which is fun. I recently came from 1000cc bike (Z1000SX) and to be honest I am missing the extra grunt. I was wondering if the riding position on a Gen 1 FZS would be more comfortable than either the FZ1 or the FZ6. Am I right in saying that both the big boys are under 200kgs in weight?
Ah! use google you lazy git!!!
Just curious, as I am going over to Ireland next week and there is a real beautiful looking FZS there I will be having a look at, I have read the comments on the lads post and yes it is expensive but if it is quality could be tempted, any advice would be appreciated, not about the bike I am going to look at but which one would be better suited for (A) my old bones, (2) I thought my touring days were behind me but still have the bug.
Thanks in advance

Kawasaki Z1000SX v Honda CBF1000F v Suzuki GSX1250FA | Group Test | Motorcyclenews.com

Why did Yamaha not get a mention, I know when the SX MK1 came out the FZ1 was used as the bench mark as a one on one test but not this time round. Kawasaki are now dominating this area of the market. I had a Z1000SX for nearly 3 years and can honestly say it was the most fun bike I ever owned, the 2014 model will take some beating, I still think the FZ1 performance wise would give the SX a run for it's money but ??? have Yamaha anything going today that is not old hat, not knocking the FZ1 but she is an aging beauty.
As a past CBF owner I posted this on there forum as well, I knew it would really wind them up especially the comment about rides like a Big Scooter, Oh the outrage from some on there

General / Valencia moto gp
« on: 28 October 2013, 04:05:26 pm »
Anyone going to the Valencia moto gp. Just bought my ticket so if you are in the RED Grandstand sector 39 and you see a fat bald Northern Irish guy say hello as it will be me. €52.20 covers all 3 days. A friend out here in Spain assures me these are really good seats, hope so as in that section there is no big screen TV. Never been to a moto gp before, pure road race fan me. Should be a fun weekend as all classes will decide world championships come the Sunday and it is 3 Spanish lads chasing the big one. Capacity crowd 120,000 when I got my ticket there were only 2021 tickets left.
The way the Spanish police are just now hope that is the only ticket I will have in my possession over the weekend.

General / Lacking in Confidence
« on: 26 October 2013, 12:14:06 am »
All this week I am having to force myself to get on the bike and hit the twisties, ridding like a complete nob. I am scared shitless going into corners but having to force myself to do it. I know I will ride through this period and start to enjoy being on a bike again. I don't know what has brought this on, not as if I have had a moment or anything. It has happened to me before and have got over it. Anyone else have this happen to them???

General / 2014 NW 200 dates
« on: 23 October 2013, 01:21:40 pm »
The 2014 NW200 dates are 13th May Tuesday practice, 15th Thursday practice and 3 evening races, Main race day Saturday 17th May. There is currently or will be a bill in the Northern Ireland assembly to allow the race organisers to move race day to the Friday or the Sunday if the weather looks as if it will be bad on the Saturday. The same bill will be applied for the UGP so hopefully that will help.

General / Tyres
« on: 11 September 2013, 05:21:21 pm »
Okay I am sure this has been done to death.
I am coming across to England from Spain at the end of the month, sadly in the car. The price of tyres out here in Spain is extremely expensive , so while in the UK I was thinking might as well get some tyres to bring back out with.
What is the peoples choice, I have had PR2's on other bikes , my current Fazer is running Bridgestones BT 020, not keen on them truth be known. Never had PR2's on my other fazer I had anyone running PR2's. The PR3's look to be more rain suited.
been on e bay and some good deals on pairs anyone tried the Conti Road attacks £185 . front and back?

« on: 09 September 2013, 10:46:06 pm »

Just ploughing through some old photos and came across this one. The weather was not as bad as it looks. We did have to leg it though as that is a snow storm rolling in.
This was the SW of France in April 2011 I think. It was taken in the Pyrennes just facing Axe le Therme, absolutely beautiful country side and the roads are fantastic even in this shot the roads were snow clear just had to watch out if there was water across a corner as ICE at times higher up the mountains, fun times.

General / My last bike
« on: 04 September 2013, 02:02:55 pm »

May not be of interest to anyone these were my last two bikes before the wee Fazer, The Z1000SX was a great bike and have to say I do miss the power of this bad boy.  :'( The Black one is a Honda CBF 1000 GT, nice comfy bike for touring and good bottom end torque, but to be honest pretty bloody boring compared to the SX . I had a FZ 6 S1 before the CBF and that is why when I was down sizing I knew the wee FZ6 S 2 I have now would still give me a buzz, but as said it is not a 1000cc bike.
Do you think maybe it is like  my dick is bigger than your dick thing I am going through ??
Don't get me wrong I am enjoying the Fazer but I am sure anyone who has come down from a 1000 cc bike to a 600cc will know what I mean. Sadly the SX had to go as the old pins are not so good, so hopefully the wee fazer will keep me riding for a few more years yet.

General / Fecking Bee's
« on: 03 September 2013, 11:14:03 pm »
Went for a late ride this afternoon up round the mountains at the back of were I live. There I was enjoying myself minding my own business. Just bombing round a nice sweeping left hander, and fecking hell a bee gets inside my helmet. Wee bastard stung me right on my chin. Not that painful but when you are going for it and there is only an Armco barrier between you and a couple of hundred feet drop, it rapidly becomes an oh shite moment.

General / Most miles ever in a day
« on: 02 September 2013, 03:33:39 pm »
Probably been done to death this , but what is the most miles you have ever done in a day.
For me it was 769 miles from Limoux SW France to Dover via Calais ferry port. I was ridding a Honda CBF 1000 GT. Surprisingly I was not to tired numb bum and a bit of backache most of that was on route national roads. A hot shower and a few pints a good nights sleep and then another 320 miles from Dover to Hoylake on the Wirral. I was 61 at the time.
I have done this ride several times as I had a home down there in a village called Alet les Bains but that was the only time I did it in one go through France.
In April this year I did the Z1000 SX forum spring meeting around North Wales 170 miles on the Saturday. On the Sunday Wirral to Dover, 320 miles. Ferry in the morning to Calais then on to Bordeaux think that is about 700 miles, stopped over at my sons in Bordeaux (some nice French twat slashed my seat in Bordeaux)from Bordeaux to Benissa, Costa Blanca, again about 550miles arrived on the Tuesday evening. Had again numb bum backache and had to stand in the shower for half an hour just to get mobile again, ached for days. The Honda CBF is more comfortable for touring than my Kawasaki Z1000SX, or else the fact that I am pushing 65 had something to do with it.
I now have the wee FZ6 and I can knock up 150 /200 miles on that on a ride out before I start getting uncomfortable and that is on the twisties and mountain roads.
Just been reading this post, Jesus you can tell I'm Irish I can ramble on forever talking shit!!!!!!!!!

« on: 11 August 2013, 01:18:40 pm »
Good ride out this morning sadly spoilt by the €100 fine I have to pay for filtering at the lights, there reasoning is I either crossed a solid white line or failed to allow a distance of 1.5 mtrs between me and the cars I was passing, even though I was just about moving, feet down etc! Okay I was in the wrong but come on tell me this is not all about making money. One good thing out here is if I pay within 20 days I get a 50% discount, Anything to help the Spanish economy lol.  :'( :rollin :lol

Bush's White House Tour

Before the inauguration, George W. was invited to a 'get acquainted' tour of the White House.

After drinking several glasses of iced tea, he asked President Clinton if he could use his personal bathroom. He was astonished to see that the President had a solid gold urinal!

That afternoon, George W. told his wife, Laura, about the urinal. "Just think," he said, "when I am President, I'll have my own personal gold urinal!"

Later, when Laura had lunch with Hillary at her tour of the White House, she told Hillary how impressed George had been with his discovery of the fact that, in the President's private  bathroom, the President had a gold urinal.

That evening, Bill and Hillary were getting ready for bed. Hillary turned to Bill and said, "Well, I found out who p155ed in your saxophone."

What is going on at the Southern 100 this week.
Sadly there has been 3 competitors killed. Two  solo's and a side car passenger,Paul Thomas , Mark Marsden Magdel and David Jukes. This is so sad.
Thoughts with the families of those who have been taken while doing something they loved.

General / A wee joke spotted on another forum
« on: 23 June 2013, 08:30:40 pm »
A CBF1000 rider is pulled over by a Garda on the N3 from Dublin on his way home. The Garda approaches the bike.

"Is there a problem Garda ?"

The Garda says, "Sir, you were speeding. Can I see your license please?"

The rider responds, "I'd give it to you but I don't have one."

 "You don't have one?"

The rider responds, "I lost it four times for drink driving."

The Garda is shocked. "I see. Can I see your vehicle registration papers please?"

 "I'm sorry, I can't do that."

 The Garda says, "Why not?"

 "I stole this bike."

 The Garda says, "Stole it?"

The man says, "Yes, and I killed the owner."

At this point the Garda is getting irate. "You what!?"

"She's in the panniers all cut up if you want to see."

The Garda looks at the man and slowly backs away to his car and calls for back up. Within minutes, five Garda cars show up, surrounding the bike. A senior Garda from the serious crimes squad slowly approaches the rider, clasping his half drawn gun.

The senior Garda says "Sir, could you step away from your motorcycle please!"

The man steps away and says; "Is there a problem Garda ?"

"One of my men told me that you have stolen this vehicle and murdered the owner."

 "Murdered the owner?"

The Garda responds, "Yes, could you please open panniers please?"

The man opens them, revealing nothing but a flask, a lunch box and some waterproof leggings.

The Garda says, "Is this your motorbike sir?"

The man says "Yes," and hands over the registration papers.

The Garda, understandably, is quite stunned. "One of my Garda claims that you do not have a driving licence."

The man digs in his pocket revealing a wallet and hands it to the Garda. The Garda opens the wallet and examines the license.
He looks quite puzzled. "Thank you sir, one of my Gardas told me you didn't have a license, stole this bike, and murdered the owner."

The man replies, "I bet you the lying ******* told you I was speeding, too!"

« on: 22 June 2013, 03:44:43 pm »
Hopefully some more photos of my new FZ6, got almost all the add on's I need only a fender extender to add now. Have to admit I thought it would take me a while to get used to a smaller bike again having come from a Z1000SX but just loving how much easier it is to move this Bumble Bee around on these Spanish roads.
Got the Top Box , Yamaha carrier frame and the luggage on flea bay £130, don't ask the postage costs from uk to Spain, wife will have me nuts.
Other add on's are Puig Crash bobbins, Puig Fly Screen, Centre Stand and tank pad, like to look after the paint on the tank seeing as I am a bit of a fender belly. :rollin :rollin

General / My new FZ6 N S2 new and unreg
« on: 19 June 2013, 07:14:58 pm »
Hopefully I have posted a photo of my new bike had it just over a week now.
Feels strange as I have down sized as they say. I had a Kawasaki Z1000SX up until last week  that was a fantastic bike and the two years I had it loved every minute of it.
But had to have a reality check , I live on the Costa Blanca now and the roads around here are just not suited for a 140 bhp bike, also being an old fart 64 it was just to heavy for me.
I had a Fazer 600 S 1 back in 07 and loved it so I thought I would look for a good one. Was I lucky or what the bike is a 2010 model (Spain) it was unregistered and came with a Yamaha 2 year warranty. Having loads of fun on it and on the twisty roads around here still able to keep up with those on bigger bikes . Still running in but I know she is a wee pocket rocket and the guy that has bought my SX is in for a surprise when we hit the mountain roads again in a week or so.
