Welcome. I'm on my second FZ1 Fazer, the first being one of the faster Red ones.   :)
Now on a brighter white one which while isn't as fast makes folks move out of the way quicker  ;)

I have always used Oxford ones myself and they have been reliable (if wired straight to the battery that is).
Had some Datatool ones on my XJR which worked ok but I found it difficult to tell if they were switched on or not due to light location.

If I was buying again I would get Oxford ones, but that's my personal choice I suppose.

I've just sold an older XJR. Fantastic bikes. Almost bought a café racer customised model from Flea bay which looked like the new model.
Like the look of the new version except that massive gargantuous exhaust that they have put on it.
Does nothing for the styling.

« on: 26 September 2014, 01:39:55 pm »
As has been said there are higher mileage CBF's out there but 54k is high, although the price is fair to be honest.
There was an '06 in my neck of the woods recently with 7k miles for 3k so unless you are desperate it may be worth shopping around abit

I thought the seats were the same to be honest although cannot contest how comfy my Gen2 Fazer pillion seat is as I find when I sit on it I cannot reach the bars  :rolleyes

Also if you fail an MOT and you get it repaired at the time at that garage then they can re-test it for free.
If you take your car/bike away to repair yourself then take it back (within 7 days I think) then you have to pay a re-test fee.
Over the 7 days and you pay for a full test again.

11k miles on my PR3's on the FZ1 and I commute 40 miles per day, motorways and city centre. Still look great and just starting to square off now.
I do ride like a fairy though  ;)

I have always got about 8-12k out of tyres on all the bikes I have previously owned (XJR, CB1300, ZRX etc) so riding style could be a contributing factor.
I did manage 24k on a set of Michelins on a GPZ550 in the 90's though  :)

they want you to sign that you will pay £500 if you bin it
It was £1k deposit at Blackburn Triumph, and they take it off a credit card before you take the bike out!
It's probably the most cautious I've ever ridden a bike in my life!

One dealer I went to take a bike for a test ride from wanted me to sign a disclaimer saying I would pay for the first £3k of any damages and would only allow me to go out for 20 mins on a pre-determined route. Obviously did not take them up on the offer and have never bought anything from them.
My view is that the dealer has the responsibility of taking out liability insurance if they want to sell me a bike, although that being said I know many smaller dealers who will not allow any test rides.

« on: 13 July 2014, 12:02:53 am »
I originally thought about doing what you have done and making my own seat but realised I was totally inept.
Eventually invested in a custom seat made by Tony Archer which I acquired for a small fee from another Foccer.
Fantastic seat which is about 4cm taller than the stock unit but once your arse sinks into it you do not notice the difference in height.

General / Re: Sell the Fazer......well maybe not!
« on: 12 July 2014, 11:44:58 pm »
Its my 2nd XJR....had one 10 years ago and regretted selling it.
Did the same 50 mile circuit on each bike this week which was an interesting comparison.
Riding the Fazer is effortless but after the XJR I was knackered....need to eat a few less pies I think  :rolleyes
