I wouldn't piss on my local Yam dealer if it was burning down.
I tend to agree with you on that which is why I use independant dealers.

What model of Honda. There are specific Forums for most models but not really any "generic ones"

I have to side with the small business here. Why does your local dealer charge more than the punter from Ebay. 3 probable reasons:
1. Overheads
2. Buying power
2. Profit margins
Your dealer charges more because most of the folks selling on Ebay are doing it from their front room/garage or are part of a large franchise who have a greater buying power. You go to an independant retailer (for any product) and you will invaribly pay more. Its not always their fault though.
Not happy with the price you local dealer is charging then go somewhere else but don't moan when you don't have a local dealer anymore as they have gone out of business.
Personally I always try and buy most of my "goods" from local sources and don't mind paying a "little extra" for the service.

I have a Yamaha Touring screen on my FZ1 and I'm 5'8". If I dip my head slightly  it clears the visor. No however much use in this weather with the road crud so I have a small sponge stuck to my top yoke which I use to clean the visor on the move.
Not found a screen yet, for the FZ1, that with give you full protection.

General / Re: Good Winter Gear ??
« on: 08 December 2011, 11:19:35 pm »
I ride all year round and now have expensive goretex gear which is worth it but you pay the price.
One thing I would however recommend, especially for the winter, is a cheap rain oversuit. I bought a 2 piece set from Aldi's for £12 and it has been fantastic.
Keeps the road crud and wind off, and although never completely waterproof keeps alot of the water off your textile/leather gear. This is especially useful if you are wearing cheaper gear which may not be as waterproof.
As far as gear is concerned you do tend to get what you pay for, in most cases, these days. I'm not a big fan of Hein Gericke but I have used a variety of their clothing over the last 200k miles I have ridden and have found it of reasonaly good quality, fits well and it lasts well.

Daytona make a version of the roadstar specifically for Hein Gericke. I think they are called the Shair. The Shair is the same spec as the Roadstar but price is about £270.

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Tyres
« on: 04 December 2011, 04:24:54 pm »
Bridgestone 020's at the moment but have 021's on the FZ1. I really like the Bridgestones but the Dunlop Roadsmarts that I had on my FZS600 over the last 2 winters were fantastic.
Any tyre recommendations you get are always based on personal opinion though as everyone has their own experience. Most modern tyres (to the normal rider anyway) will provide the same amount of grip, its just your personal perception of what is going on.
Would not however recommend mixing tyres  ;)

I have quite wide feet and have trouble with both boots and shoes. I have been wearing the SMX4 boots for 3 years but needed to go up a size due to the width. Using a 45 at the moment and they are snug for width but too long in length.
I have tried the Goretex ones and I found, because of the goretex lining they were a bit narrow to be honest.
If you are looking for width the Daytona Roadstars seem quite wide to me and they can be made specially if you require. You do however pay the price for this. If you are looking to spend £250 then another £100 will get you the Daytonas made to fit

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Alarm problems
« on: 17 November 2011, 02:45:08 pm »
Personally I paid my local independant 1 hours labour to remove the alarm from my FZS600 (and other bikes). Costs about £30 and much easier than doing it yourself....unless you are handy with colours and pliers ;)

You can only protect folders via permissioning at a user logon level as far as I am aware. Password protect documents...yes, but folders no.
My 8 year old has her own logon to my PC with zero permissions. I have even restricted the websites she can access. If she tries to access anything I hve not specified (even folders) it asks for the admin password I have set up.

« on: 09 November 2011, 06:19:52 pm »
This has reminded me of the times as a teenager, we used to go through the phone book and make random calls.   I once spoke to a lady for 30minutes and told her I was from the Electrical section of the Council, and that her neighbours had complained to me that her fridge was too noisy, and was keeping them awake at night  :rollin    I told her the fridge had to be at least 6 inches away from the wall,  otherwise kinetic vibrations would rattle the pictures on the neighbours wall..  She said her husband would move it when he came home from work.

I used to do this type of thing too

« on: 08 November 2011, 10:39:33 pm »
I took a 650 Versys out for a test a few months ago with a view using one as my all round hack. Lasted 10 mins on it and thought it was a bag of sh*te. No power whatsoever and "interesting" handling. Could not see what all the reviewers raved about.
A 1000cc version may be a different proposition though......

I have been contacted by this very company twice this year. Ironically I work in IT security so was very interested when they advised that my PC had a virus and they had noticed it. I tied the chap in knots over my 5 min conversation and he put the phone down on me eventually. not nice when someone is scammed  :(

I looked at the Quest when it first came out to replace my Raid II. Bought a XR1100 instead.  :'(
Worst helmet I have owned......... 100%
Noisy, drafty and loads of buffeting. I was expecting a bit extra noise because of the vents but mine it bloody awful. On a positive note though the vents really do work........all the bloody time whether open or closed  :( . The extended visor is however fantastic.
Wish I had bought something else though....even a Quest  :\

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Help Needed for meta 357 alarm removal please
« on: 08 November 2011, 10:09:34 pm »
I paid £30 for mine to be removed by my local independant dealer. 1 hour labour.
Have had Meta 357's on 2 x FZS600's 2 x Gen1's and a Gen2 and paid £30 for removal on each bike. Dealer said it was a breeze, although I never asked how they did it. :\
I prefer to pay someone to do it properly

« on: 21 October 2011, 08:48:12 pm »
Both my previous Gen 1's had Meta 357 alarms and both sucked my batteries dry. Ended up getting them taken off.
Cost me 1 hour labour at my local independant dealer. Yamaha quoted me £400 for a new loom + labour......yeah right.
My Gen2's OEM battery lasted 2 years (no alarm). Fitted a Varta last year and it lasted 13 months, even on an optimate. Fitted an OEM Yuasa last January and this failed last month. Turned out it was a faulty battery which was replaced under warrenty this time.
Incidentally got a Yuasa YTZ014S (for the Gen2) battery for £60 (RRP £120) from Tippetts Honda which was a bargin. Still selling at that price.

I get a "clicking" on my Gen 2 and puzzled over this for a while. Worked out it was indeed the pads moving in the calipers.
Stripped the brakes down, put back together and still clicks. No issues with braking performance its just one of those things  ;)

100k is quite impressive  :eek
Last bike I did that mileage on wa a 1985 GPZ550 and it was fecked by then.
My FZ6 currently has 4k on it and just about to start using it as my main bike. the FZ1 will be tucked under a blanket for the next few months.
Never keep my bikes long enought to make that mileage these days but lets see how the Scottish winter affects mine. FZS600 worked a treat last year so hopefully the FZ6 does the same.
Yours still looks in decent nick though Nooj

There has been talk of Fifa having the power to "ban" players if they are sacked by their club. This would prevent players trying to get sacked then resigning for someone else for now't. Interesting to see how this one pans out
