General / Sell the Fazer......well maybe not!
« on: 10 July 2014, 11:21:48 pm »
Earlier this month I was looking to sell my Gen II Fazer and swap for an FJR just for something different  :rolleyes
Having had 9 Fazers I thought it was time for a bit of a rest......

Did not quite work out that way and ended up buying an XJR to keep the Fazer company in my garage......Wife was not too impressed.
Not quite another Fazer but it is a Yamaha  :)

Kloster Andechs Weissbier a fantastic German wheat beer made by some monks in Bavaria.

I now take to importing it by the crate  :b

General / Re: Winter riding on the fazer
« on: 19 November 2013, 11:45:37 pm »
I ride all year round in "most" conditions and, apart from the usual advice that has been given about riding style etc, my big piece of advice is to keep yourself warm and dry.
If you are warm and comfortable then you will feel better on the bike. Invest in decent clothing, layer up and wear waterproofs to keep the wind off. Then just try and relax and enjoy  :)
There is a semi-famous quote of "there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing"  ;)
........oh and don't ride in the snow....

« on: 14 October 2013, 06:07:58 pm »
Cheers for the comments and interesting to know.
Bike543 do have premises in Roydon and all 3 trade on Autotrader. I have heard "mixed" reviews about Bike543 but no worse than I have heard from other Dealers to be honest. I work for a large Finance Company whose name they list on their website so just waiting to see if we have any dealings with them.
Really wondered if there was anyone here who has bought from them

General / Dealer Advice - One to avoid or not?

Looking at a bike from a dealer but they seem to be around in a number of guises, depending upon where in the country you are.
This instantly makes me suspicious.
Anyone had any dealings with any of the following, which seem to be the same company although trading under different names:
  • Bike543 - Roydon
  • SoManyBikes - Manchester
  • The MotorcycleMan - London

If the FZ1 went would love a Z1000SX but don't think the budget would stretch. Tested a B/bird and Triumph (Sprint and Tiger) but did nothing for me.
Actually looking for another XJR1300 as my 2nd bike (winter bike :rolleyes ). Had one several years ago and it was a great bike.

I found the Honda Varadero 1000 a truly awful bike that scared the sh*te out of me in high winds.
2nd would be the Honda CB250 I did 30k miles on in the early 90's. "Interesting" handling would be an understatement.

For Sale & Wanted / Re: fz1for sale
« on: 28 August 2013, 08:37:04 pm »
It is a lovely bike and it is priced well but these FZ1's do not sell well in Scotland for some reason  :( . Took me over a year to sell my last '06 FZ1 Fazer and got really lucky in the end.
I was looking to move on my current '10 plate model but looking at the price Neely is selling it for, without any offers, then not a chance. Looks like I will be keeping mine, for a while anyway.

Yep, great bike. I had one exactly the same for 3 years. If you had been a bit closer I may have been tempted  :)
Good luck.

« on: 20 August 2013, 09:01:20 pm »
Yep, you've rumbled me Mike!
Thanks for pointing out the differences in UK vs US ratings.
I've always gone for the higher octane rating at pumps in the UK.
A bike shop I used to work at used to recommend Shell V-Power, and advised that Yams from this period run better on it. I always thought I noticed the difference on my previous thous, but can't really tell with this one at the mo.

My Gen 2 runs much better on the Shell V Power. "Almost" eliminates the crappy standard fuelling (mines a '10 plate with the newer ECU aswell). Also gives better fuel economy for some reason

General / Re: just got my license back from DVLA and guess what?
« on: 17 August 2013, 11:59:47 am »
I always take my license to a local DVLA office if it needs to be sent off. Done this twice now.
They copy it, sign and date the copy with their stamp then give you the copy for your records. They then send your licence away. If your new licence comes back wrong you have a DVLA stamped one as evidence.
This was advice given to me by a tour bus driver friend of mine who regularly has to do this, and has had his licence back on a few occasions missing catagories.

Had a Roof Boxer helmet years ago, one where you need 2 hands to seal/open the visor. Bee bounced off my chest and up inside my helmet when I was taking a bend at 70. Couldn't open the bloody visor as it bounced around my face.
I was screaming the whole 300 yards until the next layby so I could stop, where I ended up chucking my helmet into a field in a panic.
Had to climb over a fence to get it back.......yep "man up" indeed  :rolleyes

« on: 15 July 2013, 08:58:08 pm »
I'm on my 9th Fazer so at the moment wouldn't get anything else as it ticks all the boxes for me.
If I "had" to then a FJR1300.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Bar vibes
« on: 09 July 2013, 08:25:04 pm »
Most of the "vibes" that I have had on numerous bikes have been due to a poorly adjusted chain....mainly done by myself  :\
When I last got new tyres I had a similar thing with my PR3's. Found out that the rear wheel was slightly off alignment. Adjusted it correctly and all was fine after that.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: FZ1 fast idle
« on: 26 June 2013, 05:38:19 pm »
Do you know of the thermo wax device would need replacing if it has failed or would adjusting the idle speed be good enough (if I can free the bugger!)

I did mean to say that if it is the unit that is "sticking" and you cannot free the "plunger" then its a replacement unit that is needed. Adjusting the idle speed makes no difference at all.

Don't know exactly what is tested but recently bought a car from NI and was advised that the test was much more intensive than the mainland one.
Some details on the test can be found on this link although it does not give anything specific to motorcycles:

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: FZ1 fast idle
« on: 25 June 2013, 07:34:41 pm »
I had issues with the thermo-wax unit a few years ago which causes the bike to fast idle. Mine started off normal then fast idled up to 4k  :o
Managed to fix mine by spraying trusty WD40 on the unit which free'd it off. Otherwise it would have been a new unit  :(

For Sale & Wanted / Re: price ideas please
« on: 25 June 2013, 07:20:11 pm »
Box eye. 2001 model

Advertise it as £1500 (you should be able to get that), and if not, £1200 sounds very fair!

Depending on where in the country you are I have seen them going from anywhere between £800 - £1500. I nearly bought a "mint" 2001 model from Glasgow for £1100 last month.

I get a*se-ache after about 30 miles on my FZ1 and thats with a Tony archer seat  :'(
Having had all the models of Fazer the FZS600 & FZS1000's are the most comfortable by far although I prefer the thou.

General / Re: Polite Hi-Viz Vest - Would you wear one?
« on: 25 June 2013, 07:10:57 pm »
I'm not buying one by the way......just wanted to know what you thought  :D
Nothing against Hi-Viz clothing as, especially at night or in poor visibility, it "can" make you more visible.
Don't wear Hi-Viz stuff myself but I do have an orange(ish) jacket (well more brown now after 6 years) and a white lid. On my white Fazer sometimes cars move over quickly if I sneak up on them, especially on motorways.
There is loads of hi-viz clothing out there and to me if you wear one these, it is not about being visible, but giving the impression you are something you are not........why else would you wear one instead of the basic hi-viz vest....whether on a horse, bike or pushbike???

Don't know if this topic has been debated before but would anyone wear one of these and do you think these constitute impersonating a Police Officer?
POLITE Hi-VIZ WaistCoat
I am aware that the Met have commented that they are ok to wear but what about other Forces?
Anyone want to chance getting busted  :)
