Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Alternatives to the fzs1000?
« on: 29 May 2018, 06:19:04 pm »
Would second the Z1000SX. Can pick up tidy gen 2 models (with abs and traction control) for £6k+ (add another £500 or so for panniers).
First gen models are circa 4k and up, ish!

Damper on mine, fitted purely for cosmetic reasons........recent track day had to actually wind it on a couple of turns 'cos of wibbly-wobbly under hard acceleration  :lol

Have you not got that fitted the wrong way round?

Looks it!

For Sale & Wanted / ZX10R D7F (2007) - Ideal summer toy!
« on: 24 May 2017, 12:51:39 pm »
Looking at selling my 2007 ZX10R , thought I'd put up on here to see if there's any interest. High level summary is that its a cracking bike (bloody fast and handles fantastically) but I'm just not getting a chance to use it so would rather free up some cash to go towards doing up the house and see it go to a good home than let it sit for months in the garage!

High level info:
- 2007 plate, D7F (no generator issues on this model)
- circa 25k miles
- Partial service history. Serviced before I bought it at circa 23k miles, I've since done a full standard service (adjustment, oil, oil filter, air filter, coolant, spark plugs, brake fluid etc).
- Black
- Excellent tyres, Michelin Pilot Power 3 with <500miles
- Good chain and sprockets - O.E front, heavy duty gold chain and supersprox rear fitted circa 3k miles ago (when I bought bike)

Modifications are as follows:
- R&G crash protection (crash bungs, rad guard, bobbins, bar end protectors)
- Akrapovic end cans and Power Commander V (circa 165hp at rear wheel). Also have a decat mid pipe to go on I'll throw in which basically turns the exhaust into a race system (most restriction in this model is in the mid pipe with the headers of good quality). All bits needed to run without error message (02 blanking plugs, servo motor removal kit etc.) fitted
- Carbon engine casings/protectors
- Carbon mudguard, chainguard
- Heated grips (Oxford sports)
- Rear seat cowl (pillion seat included)
- Gear indicator
- Nissin brake calipers & braided lines (no fading issues as can happen with standard Tokicos)
- Scottoiler

In this state I'm looking for offers of around low-mid £4ks.

Have also a number of other mods that were fitted that I'd be happy to refit at an agreed cost including:
- Brembo RCS master cylinder and matching clutch perch
- Ohlins shock
- Giles rearsets
- Giles adjustable handlebars
- Giles chain adjusters
- Bagster tank bag
- Carbon ram air covers

Ideal toy for summer - any interested parties please get in touch! Bike located in NW Kent / SE London region.

General / Re: Rules of the road please help
« on: 12 December 2016, 05:05:49 pm »
Split responsibility typically, the degree of blame for each party depends on the exact circumstance.

Car should ensure that the road is clear before pulling out, but the cyclist (or motorcyclist) should be riding in a fashion that would give him the ability to stop in time of such an eventuality - particularly given that there is a side road there.

Would greatly depend as to the manner of accident - I am assuming in this case the car has pulled out and cyclist has gone into the side?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: What do you reckon to these springs?
« on: 12 December 2016, 04:58:47 pm »
Progressive springs are a bit of a compromise - they might make the bike feel a bit more comfy over bumps but they won't give proper control in the same manner that a set of weight matched linear springs will. Depends on your riding style, but if you ride the bike more for enjoyment I would definitely suggest a set of linears.

Interesting one this - I've always thought of the MT series as the Fazers replacement, which seems to be echoed in the number of ex Fazer owners moving onto them!

Not a bad price so long as it don't go up to much.

I'd want photos of the underneath - looks like it could be carbon dip

Well i've always fancied one since i was in my late teens, so i have done it bought a Minter 2004 10k miles 1 owner FSH. I will be keeping the fazer but the CBR will be going in the new year. Roll on Saturday when i pick her up. If i dont like will move on and as i got it for a good price i wont loose owt. Roll on the abuse.....

Shit photo i know more to follow if u are interested that is.

Cracking bike but the brakes will most likely be crap so be careful and test them out first! They're a PITA to bleed and work on as well - very common upgrade is to swap them for Nissin 4 pots off a Bandit 1200, but a radial master cylinder will also make a big difference.

Having ridden most of them, and owned a number of ZX9Rs (all E/F models):

ZX9R - fantastic road bike, big enough to be comfortable, great engine, and they do handle well when set up (the rear needs lifting up). Can run in the fast group on track days but if I were doing mostly track I'd go for the blade.
CBR - fantastic all around bike, very Honda-esque in that it seems just a very strong package. I personally found it a bit too clinical feeling, and they're also quite small which as I do a lot of miles didn't suit either myself or the gf.
GSXR - Somewhere in the middle, but with a more powerful engine than either!

No matter what you buy at this kind of point budget for a suspension rebuild/replacement and likely a brake rebuild/master cylinder upgrade - these will all be miles away from working as they should at this age and they will materially change the feel of the bike if sorted.

MT10 in acceleration for certain - it's putting out what, 20hp over an FZS? Top speed I would imagine they won't be dissimilar to be honest

Any reason you don't just go for the commonly available rack and side rail fitting kit?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: another USD question ...
« on: 20 July 2016, 11:20:46 pm »
yeah that's the guide I was going off. It looks like the easiest way is to get a complete front end and then just a little bit of jigerry pokery with a spacer and replacing the yoke with the FZS one?

How you gonna use an FZS yoke on R1 forks fella - they're USD, they won't fit in the clamps?

Reliable?

The Suzuki.

What would I actually rather ride? Triumph - without a doubt!

Advice seems fine. "Click" settings likely to be nowere near the mark unless you've had your supension serviced - at 10+ years old the fork oil will be like water by now with little to no damping properties and the shock (already a weak point) will be in the same boat!

so I'm getting a bit p*ssed off with these dealers selling so called waterproof jackets/pants when clearly they are not.
I've had 2 jackets and wife has one both suppose to be waterproof but got caught twice in heavy down pours and we were both soaked.
what gear do you guys have that are waterproof under £130?

£130 for jacket and trousers combined, or £130 each?

From personal experience I've always found cheap waterproofs leak unfortunately (although there's always the option of a one piece oversuit!). Generally speaking if you pay more you'll start getting items with a proper goretex lining which tend to be significaintly better!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: have sintered pads eaten my front discs
« on: 29 June 2016, 11:14:36 am »
40k on a set of standard discs doesn't sound particularly bad to me - it's not far off what I've had on most of my bikes (my pads of choice are Brembo's red road pad and carbon lorraines sintered road pads)

General / Re: BMW S1000RR rear shock question

Fair enough if you're wanting to put the bike on a plinth and look at it, but I wouldn't want to ride it!

General / Re: BMW S1000RR rear shock question
« on: 08 June 2016, 02:30:13 pm »
That is not going to handle right I think - that spring seems extremely stiff for your weight. Also concerned that you've put a much stiffer spring on than the shock was designed for - I doubt the damping is going to be up to the job of controlling the shocks movements with that stiff a spring!

Hi chaps,

Not sure if we've got any fans on here but I've got some tickets I'm looking to shift on - got both seated and standing tickets to shift. Not looking to make a profit off here - just cost value + postage.

Any interested takers, drop me a P.M!

Cheers,

Joe

FZS600 Fazer / Re: front pads and fluid change
« on: 01 June 2016, 08:28:54 am »

The guy from the other thread here :)
The brakes are working 100%, no problems with DOT 5.1 so far (800km). I'd like a little more bite from the brakes, but thats probably just worn out pads.

I had no real reason to use 5.1 over DOT 4. Just wanted to try it out.
Glad to hear it works ok. In the end I chickened out and went for dot 4  :\
But I'm going to use it on the rear when I next change the pads  :)

Do you really want 'more bite' on the rear?
I can understand trying it out at the front, but personally i wouldn't bother using it on the rear just for every day riding.

Brake fluid will make sod all difference to the bite (comparing 5.1 to 4, I don't mean comparing old to new fluid). Main difference is 5.1 has a higher boiling point, hence why its used on race bikes - you'll never get near the temperatures needed to boil fluid on the road unless you have a serious issue with your braking system. Downside is as pointed out its considerably more hygroscopic so will need bleeding more frequently, which is a bit pointless on a road bike too!
