A run down to H's for tea and bacon butties again. Not much there (unsurprisingly). Got a snap for a picture challenge (your bike on a bridge) but got back too late to win.

Must get this shot in summer in sunshine - The Thames at Abingdon.

Close Encounters of the Feathered Kind
Had a pheasant fly out into my knee on Wednesday's run to Wales. Today, came round a corner to find a Red Kite swooping down on a couple of Magpies that were casually strolling across the road and had to grab a handful; apart of course, from the usual pigeon-ducking. Oh the joys of the countryside!

And just spent an hour riding around fruitlessly looking for a shop or business with a pun in it's name for the next challenge on that particular forum. the only one I knew of has recently changed it's name! Bugger  :rolleyes

Yeah, but where's the sunshine?  ;)
Keep passing it, usually on the way to/from H's, and for some reason that view always catches my eye, don't know why.

Didn't do anything with the bike today, but Wednesday's forecast could mean another Wales day  :)

Due to  life serving me a shit sandwich today , I decided to put some sauce on it and take the Fazer out for a blast  ,  headed down to Cheddar , across the Mendips , on to Shepton Mallet , pass Longleat , back along the Warminster bypass , through the beautiful city of Bath  , across Chelvey Bridge , pass Chew valley Lake , up and over Dundry hill back into Bristol , warm sunshine , mainly dry roads , light traffic , beautiful scenery , did a total of 100 miles , bike was sweet , the K&N filter certainly seemed to give it some extra oomph , after all that the sandwich tasted quite good .

Had a complete experience today..(read drama).

After fitting 1 crash bar yesterday i set about the other one.....much swearing, bending, rubber mallet bashing & paint chipping later & i had finally got somewhere.....only to pop my coolant pipe & send coolant all over the patio :'( .

Eventually realised that my silicone hose will not fit with the bar in place.....took bar off again...put bike back in shed......so now i need to do another coolant change plus oil change before i can go anywhere.

Totally focced off! :(

Are the hoses a different size to the standard ones then ?

The crash bars are designed to fit a standard FZS600 so I wonder why the clearance is an issue ?

I had a set of those crash bars on my boxeye and they fitted fine. Strange one, or am I overlooking something obvious (It wouldn't be the first time)  :o

Ye i imagine that the standard hoses are fine with these bars lez but the new silicone hose was only just big enough to span the gap so that the extra length required to get round the bar just isnt there.

There was quite a bit of persuasion to get the bars in place but i managed it....which made the hose issue all the worse.

Oh well....who wants some bars???

There can't be that much in it... only a few mm surely? The internal diameter is obviously the same, but the wall height is slightly larger but I can't see it being any more than maybe 4-6mm and given that they are silicone, they should have some give?

They give ok but it's purely length, instead of a straight a to b the hose has to go under the chunky crash bar & because they've been cut to perfection to fit there just isnt the length, strange really because they were made from the pipes supplied by you which were originals but i tried and tried and tried...the only way was having just a few mm of hose over the pipe which wasn't enough for me to clamp round & didnt fill me with confidence it would stay on...apage had photos with the very same bars fitted to his fazer with standard hoses.

Not sure Christo, i just paid 50 for them posted.

Think i've sussed out what's goin on now...apage supplied me with bolts plus some spacers, now i wasn't entirely sure where the spacers went, there was a small one & a big one......i should have asked him as he did say to message if i had any trouble...so on closer inspection of his previous photo i can see that woola in the pic his rad hose doesn't have to go round the bar....because the bar isnt flat against the mounting point....look closely at the pic...the flat foot of the bar isn't flat against the frame...it is out by an inch as if not properly driven home yet....so the spacer goes in that space then..maybe...but that means the foot sits out from the frame & im not sure that defeats the purpose of having a foot in the first place???...so i need to find someone with standard rentec full bars to compare against.think mick might have some.

To be honest though i'm quite focced off with the whole thing so i might sell them anyway...they'll need some light sanding & a lick of black paint though.

Edit.....ok i messaged Mickvp & he very kindly checked his out...& indeed there is a spacer on the left side...& so the bar foot sits off the frame by an inch in order to avoid the hose.....who woulda thought it!!!....perhaps an afterthought by Rentec maybe i dunno but certainly not how i imagined they'd fit, instead of that foot taking the impact pressure it is in fact all on the bolt.

I need a few days to let off steam then i'll make another attempt.

NOGGY!!

That sounds like a proper nightmare! Really sorry you went through all of that!

You really should have dropped me a line, because (and this may shock you) I did pretty much all that you have so far! I had all the same mallet bashing, lots of head scratching, a bit of paint chipping (the bars were still bare, so only off of the bikes frame :rolleyes ) and some serious wondering as to WHY Renntec made a foot, then put in spacers to stand the bars off from the frame. It made NO sense to me either!! :rollin

But the bars simply don't fit without the spacers. I think you've hit the nail on the head with 'afterthought'. Not as bad as the 8 foot long bolts on crash bobbins though I suppose!

I hope you're happy with them now. I swear that after that palaver, mine are NEVER coming off! :lol

Removed the Beowulf exhaust on my 600 and polished it up then remove the Fuel can on the thou and attempted to fit the Beowulf... only to find that the link pipe is about 4-5mm larger for the Fuel system so it won't fit... in fact, the link pipe has the exact same internal and external diameter as the connection on the Beowulf :(

Going to have to either find a connecting piece of metal, or buy a new link pipe :\

But still, refitted the Fuel can and went for a spin around the South of Bristol and North Somerset :)
Could you not cut a slot in it and open it up a fraction to fit over the can?

I considered it, but figured the fit wouldn't be good enough for a decent seal unless I did some serious modification which I'm not prepared to do. I've contacted Beowulf about sourcing a new link pipe, but in the interim I have a length of steel pipe being delivered on Thursday of the correct size so that I can create a patch between the two pipes.

Not ideal, but shouldn't cause any real issues as far as I can tell. Plus, it only cost £6.49 delivered - so hardly breaking the bank if it doesn't work :)

They also allowed me to specify a length to be cut from the total (a 250mm long section) so I took a rough estimate of about 2" so I hopefully won't need to do any cutting either and this will allow me to interchange the cans without permanent modification. I figured if I was significantly happier with the Beowulf can I could either move the Fuel to the 600 or sell it on
