Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZ1-S overheating - now fixed
« on: 30 May 2020, 11:34:54 am »
use he bike for first time in 8 wks yesterday to go to work (40 miles).  When got into Leeds noticed temp warning light on and temp 120C!

Stopped, let it cool down and continued the last 8 miles to work.  Came on again.

Going home in pm, seemed normal (fluctuating between 97C and 103C) then again 10 miles from home (return trip is 50 miles)

Coincidentally the 'going wrong' seems to have happened about 45 mins in to each journey.

I'm guessing this may be thermostat faulty, or even temp sensor itself?  Plannning to do some more checking today to verify each of these.

Anyone else had this problem?  Got any ideas?

Sorry everyone but this is off (for me at least) - I'm not going to be in a position of "spare cash" to fund this little jaunt - the Spring Meet itself is also likely to be cancelled this year (but not yet 100% confirmed)

This idea grew off the back of ‘doing something special’ to celebrate 20 years of Spring Meet.

In simple terms the plan was to attend the Spring Meet then pitch off on the Monday to ‘the ferry’ then blat across France/Belgium/Germany to Nurburg and the Nurburgring.   Fine in principle but in practically not so good as people tired, need fresh clothes etc.

Also the dates may not have aligned with the opening times for the Ring (it is open selected evenings and weekends).   So the plan now is to go sometime in June (maybe July) or September potentially leaving midweek to coincide with the Ring calendar to be able to be there to coincide with at an evening session and weekend day.  It also needs to be borne in mind that the Ring can be scheduled to be open and then can be closed (e.g. if someone bins it) - so you if you only have one window and it ends up being closed when you get there, it’s a long way to go to be disappointed).

Outline plan would be:
…erm haven’t got that far yet

Oh and you need to have attended at least one Spring Meet to join this foray.

Express interest, ideas below.  It doesn't have to be Nurburgring but the advantages are, it is iconic and can be done in less that a week (as not all of us have endless holidays available, or are in the holiday = not getting paid category).

## ROLL UP....  ROLL UP....   ROLL UP.... ##

Well would you believe it? 20 Years of the “original and best”TM S P R I N G   M E E T!

To celebrate this momentous occasion, we will be frequenting the now established location at West End, this year thanks to the old bird int Palace we have an extra Bank 'olliday so that means a change from the usual weekend and FOUR NIGHTS  :woot

Some changes to the usual format in light of this 20 year milestone:
  • four nights as above: Arrive Thursday 02-Jun leave Mon 06-Jun
  • following consultation with the Spring Meet Entertainments Officer (Heath) there will be bands on both Friday and Saturday nights (details below)
  • as 10 years ago - fireworks !  … but this is tbc dependent upon numbers (cost consideration) - 2022 update: this is tbc dependent upon ££££s
  • a follow on tour for those who want it/can afford it - summary below to be elaborated in a separate thread - 2022 update: not sure this will happen (for me at least)
Venue

Same as previously:  West End Outdoor Centre, Bank Dike Hill, Thruscross, Harrogate, HG3 4BA - this postcode will take you past it - Sat Nav Coords: Lat:54.013713 Long:-1.779242

When

Spring Bank 'Oliday weekend i.e. arrive Thursday 02-Jun - stay for FOUR nights - fek off 'ome Monday 06-Jun (note this is not a Bank Holiday)

Pricing

Venue hire is £1400 for the four nights (usually £1100 for three) which ~ £47 per person per bunk total for the full four nights - still a  'kin bargin!

Total 'all in' for bunk, food, booze will be £tbc (currently) see Pricing Summary below.

## camping and dossing down is free as previously ##  but if all bunks are not filled then a contribution will be required from campers/dossers !!  Note if camping/dossing you still pay a fee for general items and food/booze (it's not totally free you freeloading bastids)  :lol

Deposits and Payment

Normally those who subsequently cannot make it will get their deposit/money back assuming the place can be passed on.  Otherwise the shortfall has to be covered by those who have attended.

As every year you have plenty of time to ‘book the time off’; that said I appreciate "stuff" happens and can't be avoided - be assured I will try me very best to refund you if this happens and your excuse is genuine. I have already paid the £200 deposit to secure the booking. I need to pay the FULL balance for the accommodation (by the end of April).

On this basis I will be expecting a minimum deposit (per bunk place) of £50 no later than 31-March. Priority for bunk places will be given to those paying deposits -  A deposit can be any amount £10 or upwards but only full £50 will secure your place.  Multiple deposits are fine but I'd prefer it all in one i.e. for bunks the full £50.

I will be expecting payment IN FULL (i.e. total inc. food) no later than two weeks prior to the meet. If you have not payed in full by 14-May then, if demand, your place will be offered to others. Deposits will only be refunded in exceptional circumstances or your place is taken.  If your place is taken, the person taking it pays me the difference between the deposit paid (by you) and the total amount payable i.e. you are responsible for recovering your deposit from them yourself (obviously I will put you in contact with them).  Anyone dropping out at the "last minute" will only be refunded in exceptional circumstances.

Food/beer/band/sundries

will be ca. £80 (was £70)  per head -  tee-totalers get a corresponding reduction on the cost; reduction if you don't drink alcohol ca. £24 (was £20)

Veggies note as I will still be buying you some veg food then as this roughly equates with the cost for BBQ and breakfast meat there is no reduction. You need to tell me what you want - alternatively if you want to cater for yourself (bring your own or eat twigs and leaves from outside etc) then a ca. £14 reduction applies (was £12)

This has always been a three night event for the bunks.  This year it is FOUR NIGHTS.   If you want to stay for less then fine, but again I've booked for four nights so you pay for four nights.  Popping over for one night only? Normally anyone who turns up on the Sunday (or other night but there is unlikely to be any spare bunks on the Fri and Sat) and takes a vacated bunk chucks some money in the kitty (assuming you want to eat and drink) - £35 for Friday (was £25) or £35 Saturday (was £35)

Note if you are camping or dossing you only pay for the nights you are staying.

You can pay me by Bank Transfer or PayM using my mobile number (or Paypal but bank transfer my preference...) - note the bank details changed three years ago! so check first before paying - the correct/valid account number ends ….4567.

##DO NOT## use the PM feature to contact me - use email, Whatsapp (preferred) or Facebook Messenger!

Pricing Summary (guide)

Note this is just my best guess at the moment and likely to change!

Bunk + Food + Meat + Booze = £125 per person (was £110) - for campers £80 (was £73)
Bunk + Food + Meat = £105 per person (teetotalers) (was £90)  - for campers £56 (was £53)

See note above for vegetarians (and god forbid vegans :pokefun )

These are subject to confirmation but generally any uplift has previously been less than £5 per person overall.  May be more this year.

Saturday night - Kindred (recently discovered by our resident A&R man Heath)

Sunday - entertain yer fekkin sens

Food

Camping (FREE)

Camping is free (just pay for food/booze/entertainment) - unless all bunks are not filled in which case a contribution will be reqd!

Dossing Down Inside (also FREE)

Dossing is free (just pay for food/booze/entertainment) - unless all bunks are not filled in which case a contribution will be reqd!  This is an alternative to camping but all you need to bring is a sleeping bag and it’s warm and dry!. This option will be limited to a maximum of ten people (due to space and I only have five airbeds - and I really can't be arsed).

Follow on Tour - “Stags in the Ring” (Nurburgring) - 2022 Update: left in for discussion but likely too late to organise now

There was some talk about changing the venue for this year to somewhere posher or even going abroad, however, as i) the venue is part of what makes the meet and ii) flitting off to some exotic location (e.g. big villa in the sun) would be cost prohibitive for many, consensus was to arrange a follow on trip across the water, likely into the Fatherland to take in the Nurburgring.  The detail for this is in a separate thread: http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?topic=25908.0  - Maybe look at this again for 2023....

General / FZ1 / FZ8 Pillion Seat - Does either directly fit to FZ1-S
« on: 21 August 2019, 10:45:21 am »
does anyone know if the FZ1 (naked) pillion seat will fit the FZ1-S? And/or is the FZ-8 seat compatible (with FZ1-S)? I didn't fasten mine down properly (for the second time 🤔) and when arriving at destination it was gone... :\
Or if anyone has a spare pillion seat??

 :woot :sun :woot

Following the resounding success of last year's exploratory outing
http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?topic=21115.0 have decided to do this again.

Saturday lunchtime congregate in Moffat on the Saturday pm (lunchtime) in Moffat for the obligatory fish supper - meeting in Moffat at 13:00 ~13:30

Sat afternoon a wee bimble around Galloway before terminating at Kircudbright to stock up on 'essential supplies' prior to arrival at the Castle Creavie bunkbarn (the Hay Barn).

Spaces in proper bunks are limited to 6 No. (proper beds with quilt and pillow) but there is also space to doss on the floor.

Note this is not a frenzied raucous venue (like Spring Meet) as it's adjacent to the farmhouse and a holiday letting cottage i.e. no fires, no revving tits off bikes at 3am etc etc.

Sunday - full cooked breakfast in the farmhouse £7.50 per person or do your own thing then depart for home.

Could make into a two (or even three nighter) if interest e.g, say Friday pm Borders - Sat push north somewhere (Kinlochleven?)  - Sunday at Castle Creavie, Monday home - I guess with the option to do just one night or three etc.  My preference is just the Saturday night but at a push I could have Friday off.  - AS IT STANDS I HAVE BOOKED THE SATURDAY NIGHT ONLY - the option is there for Friday but as I said, I'll likely just be doing the Saturday - anyone wanting Friday or Sunday can contact Castle Creavie direct and make your own arrangements.

Castle Creavie costs are: Bunks are £15 pppn.  Additionally, reckon on about max. £15 each for food/beer etc (breakfast extra - per night) - I'm probably going to cook spicy chicken wraps and spicy beef/tacos.

I have booked the Hay Barn for Sat 30-Sep - waiting for the proprietor to confirm the max occupancy (but likely 6 No. for fire regs compliance)-  8 max should be fine with the last two takers dossing on the floor (as it stands currently this is Craig and Midden)

Takers:

1- Me - confirmed (+ breakfast)
2 - Heath - confirmed (+ breakfast)
3 - Daz -confirmed (+ breakfast)
4 - TuonoV - -confirmed (+ breakfast)
5 - Chrisbiker + 1 - confirmed (+ breakfast x2)
7 - Louthyz - confirmed (+ breakfast)
8 - Midden?

Make sure you all have cash to pay the bunk costs + breakfast (£22.50 total for both) - anyone who wants to can send me money upfront if they want (PayM via my mobile number - or bank xfer - message me for details)

Update 10-Sep:  right peeps plan is:
  • Chris and his mate are staying in Keighley on the Friday pm (brave) - Heath will kindly 'collect' them Sat am and make way to Devil's Bridge
  • Ventzi is staying at mine Friday pm - so we'll see the rest of you (inc. Craig) at Devil's Bridge
  • Meet at Devil's Bridge 08:30
  • Meet any of the Scottish contingent in Moffat 13:00 - 13:30
  • then as above

Riding home from work tonight for some reason thought I'd try the rear brake with a bit of effort (as I normally only use it at low speeds) 'just to see that it still works'.

Only going ca. 10 mph I pressed pedal and rear locked up (ABS did not appear to activate - maybe too low speed?).  I did this twice and then carried on...a couple of hundred yards later decelerating for a junction the bike started to slow down by itself!

Rear brake was was on and pads smoking. :\

Hmmm - I released the pressure via the bleed nipple which obviously released the piston pressure.  Tried brake again but nothing so went home whilst learning to use just front brake in traffic which was a bit alien until I go used to it.

Read up about the ABS system when home and investigated a bit more.  The symptoms are as follows; pumping the lever does apply the brake pads progressively (albeit slowly) but it is like there is a non-return valve in the system as the pressure does not relieve and the brake just gets tighter and tighter

Looking at the detail in the service manual all I can assume is that the ABS spool valve is stuck in the emergency braking position so that the fluid flow from the master cylinder is going via the orifice - that said I'd expect the pressure to still release. As I said the it's like there is a non return valve.  Also the valve spool in the block appears to be in the de-energised position (i.e. you can push it in by hand - which makes no difference incidentally).

There is no ABS warning light lit and the front brake works as normal (including ABS function - I tried it on gravel track opposite my house).

Anyone got any ideas?

Update 21-Aug:
took in to JAX motrocycles in York (Yam dealer) - they confirmed that there is a fault internally in the ABS hydraulic/pump unit - rear brake would not bleed through the hydraulic unit - new replacement ca. £700!  Their suggestion is to convert to 'standard' and junk the ABS unit as cost is prohibitive.

Update 22-Aug:
hydraulic unit is fooked - cannot bleed through it - I've tried everything - looking on a FJR forum the diagnostics cannot detect a spool failure - I've used the test connection to run the diagnostics as per the service manual - all good (but obviously isn't!) - can't find a 2nd hand unit (well other than one in Denmark for £500 - so going to convert to 'non ABS' (ordered the HEL lines today) - BTW new unit is over £1,200!

Forget what did you do today etc and sign up for the legendary FOC-U Spring Meet - now in it's 17th year !  :lol

Sat/Sun 8/9 Oct - anyone fancy a weekend away (go Sat, meet some Scots foccers in Moffat for lunch then stay Sat pm in bunkhouse at Kirkcudbright) bunkhouse cost £15 per person for the night - sleeps 6 in bunks and room on floor for more).

Full cooked farmhouse breakfast on Sunday £7.50 per person.

This won't be a head banging piss up  :D  - just a pleasant evening with a wee dram or two

When Spring Bank 'Oliday weekend i.e. arrive Friday 26-May - stay for three nights - fek off 'ome Monday 29-May (Bank 'Oliday)

Pricing It has gone up to £1000 for the three nights (was £960) which is £33 per person per bunk total for the full three nights - still a  'kin bargin!  yes 1000/30 is not 33 I've added £10 from last years left over kitty to make it a whole number.  Total 'all in' for bunk, food, booze is £90 see Pricing Summary below.

## CAMPING AND DOSSING DOWN IS FREE AS PREVIOUSLY ##  BUT IF ALL BUNKS ARE NOT FILLED THEN A CONTRIBUTION WILL BE REQUIRED FROM CAMPERS/DOSSERS !!

### TWO BUNK SPACES TO FILL ### keep canvassing: link to calling cards: https://www.dropbox.com/s/di7k6jeygr70k7o/FOC-U%20Spring%20Meet.docx?dl=0

Note currently cost is just about covered - even with two bunks not taken (using surplus from last year) - this is subject to change dependent upon final shopping spend.

Deposits and Payment

Normally those who subsequently cannot make it will get their deposit/money back assuming the place can be passed on.  Otherwise the shortfall has to be covered by those who have attended.  As every year you have plenty of time to book the time off; that said I appreciate "stuff" happens and can't be avoided - be assured I will try me very best to refund you if this happens and your excuse is genuine.

I have already paid the £200 deposit to secure the booking.  As this has been covered by deposits paid I don't need any further payment until April, when I need to pay the FULL balance for the accommodation (by the end of April). On this basis I will be expecting a minimum deposit (per bunk place) of £33 no later than 31-March.

Priority for bunk places will be given to those paying deposits -  A deposit can be any amount £10 or upwards. Multiple deposits are fine but I'd prefer it all in one i.e. for bunks the full £33.

Due in previous years several people not turning up at the last minute (with genuine excuses thin on the ground), I will be expecting payment IN FULL (i.e. total inc. food) no later than two weeks prior to the meet.

If you have not payed in full by 10-May then if demand your place will be offered to others. Deposits will only be refunded in exceptional circumstances or your place is taken.  If your place is taken, the person taking it shall pay me the difference between the deposit paid (by you) and the total amount payable i.e. you are responsible for recovering your deposit from them yourself (obviously I will put you in contact with them).  Anyone dropping out at the "last minute" will only be refunded in exceptional circumstances.

Food/beer/band/sundries will be ca. £57 per head -  tee-totalers get a corresponding reduction on the cost.

Reduction if you don't drink alcohol ca. £20.

Veggies note as I will still be buying you some veg food then as this roughly equates with the cost for BBQ and breakfast meat there is no reduction.  You need to tell me what you want - alternatively if you want to cater for yourself (bring your own or eat twigs from outside) then a ca. £5 reduction applies.

This has always been a three night event.  If you want to stay for less then fine, but again I've booked for three nights so you pay for three nights.  Popping over for one night only? Normally anyone who turns up on the Sunday (or other night but there is unlikely to be any spare bunks on the Fri and Sat) and takes a vacated bunk and chucks some money in the kitty (assuming you want to eat and drink) -  £20 is about right.   Note (rightly or wrongly) I've now decided to relax this rule a little for those camping or dossing.

You can pay me by Bank Transfer (or Paypal but bank transfer my preference...) send email to 2017@springmeet.co.uk and I will forward the details - note the bank details are NOT same as last years!  Whatsapp is my preferred IM app.

##Please DO NOT use the PM feature to contact me - use email, Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger! ##

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZ1-S lateral (axial) play in swingarm
« on: 20 April 2016, 08:06:16 pm »
go back ca. 4 years at MOT - tester detected minor play in rear wheel bearing - he passed it and I replaced the bearings anyway (as he knew I would) play was still there and had been ever since but has never got any worse - I remind him every year and he says "oh yes I remember".  However, last year's MOT he put it down as an advisory and saidf I needed to look at it again - as it was no different that last 4 years but MOT time is approaching again.

Got some new tyres week before last and I thought  :think "ah lets check swingarm  while the wheel is out...Result = no diecernable play in the bearings BUT significant lateral (on axis of swingarm pivot pin) ca. 1mm  The whole swing arm move laterally between the bearing dust caps?

Erm help?

Anyone else had this - what is the cure (I can't see how it can be - the dustcaps don't appear to be worn - I can't seen the centre sleeve wearing out?)

When Spring Bank 'Oliday weekend i.e. arrive Friday 27-May - stay for three nights - fek off 'ome Monday 30-May (Bank 'Oliday)

Pricing It has gone up to £320 per night which is £32 per person per bunk total for the full three nights - 'kin bargin!

## CAMPING AND DOSSING DOWN IS FREE AS PREVIOULSY ##  BUT IF ALL BUNKS ARE NOT FILLED THEN A CONTRIBUTION WILL BE REQUIRED FROM CAMPERS/DOSSERS !!

On this basis I will be expecting a minimum deposit (per bunk place) of £32 no later than 31-March.

Priority for bunk places will be given to those paying deposits -  A deposit can be any amount £10 or upwards. Multiple deposits are fine but I'd prefer it all in one i.e. for bunks the full £32.

Due in previous years several people not turning up at the last minute last time (with genuine excuses thin on the ground), I will be expecting payment IN FULL (i.e. total inc. food) no later than two weeks prior to the meet.

If you have not payed in full by 10-May then your place will be offered to others. Deposits will only be refunded in exceptional circumstances or your place is taken.  If you place is taken, the person taking it shall pay me the difference between the deposit paid and the total amount payable i.e. you are responsible for recovering your deposit from them yourself (obviously I will put you in contact with them).  Anyone dropping out at the "last minute" will only be refunded in exceptional circumstances.

Food/beer/band/sundries will be ca. £58 per head - the non meat eaters and tee-totalers get a corresponding reduction on the cost.

Reduction if you only eat weeds: ca. £13 - Reduction if you don't drink alcohol ca. £20.

##IMPORTANT NOTE RE TWIN ROOMS ## NOW RESOLVED ##

This has verged into being an issue in the past i.e there are only 4 No. twin rooms and demand usually exceeds this.

Already this year the twin rooms are over subscribed (see below).   I'm trying to come up with the fairest way of allocating the rooms...

First come first served (FCFS)  :2fingers  is one option (which would fix the room allocation as below), however, this does seem a little unfair as some of those who have been repeat attendees (in some cases for significant number of years) have no advantage; and I am concious that some people may not attend if then do not have a twin room :(

There are 3 No. four bunk rooms which have in the past been reserved for couples (you can take it in turns 'locking the door'... :kiss )

Therefore, I'd ask anyone who wants a twin room to add your thoughts to this thread as to how you would like to proceed (general comments, plus are you willing to share a four bunk room and if so with whom?)

There is alternative B&B accommodation locally if this is of interest to anyone: http://scaifehallfarm.co.uk/

Ideas going around in my head, drawing from a hat, auction for charity, points system for number of years attended, premium for twin rooms (surplus to charity) etc etc

##update## Velma has been doing some organising and she and Daz are going to share a four bed with Di and Kris - so with the unfortunate parting of some lovely couples (see below) - we are sorted

Deposits paid and twin rooms confirmed (FCFS)

1 - Neilly & Ally
2- Russ & Beth
3 - Daz & Veeee Ian & Soraya (deposit not paid)
4 - Eddie & Val

Twin Rooms Requested (or pending):

5 - Adam + 1 got no money
6 - Raymy & Jodie -parting of ways has taken place
7 - Ian & Soraya? - now in twin room
8 - Dooks & Fluffs? - sharing 4 bed with Daz and V
9 - Nick & Eve? -parting of ways has taken place
