Nutters in cars
« on: 25 May 2012, 10:40:08 pm »
:eek I am sure there are a few boys in blue here. perhaps some advice please

Today going around a hairpin bend - known as the devils elbow-with two solid whites the car behind me was straddling the centre lines trying to overtake- didnt expect him at that position so mved over to the left to get out of his way. He overtook the next car going round a blind left.. if any innocent driver had come the other way at that time  :eek also on double whites

Followed light traffic for about a mile and saw him at the back of about five vehicles behind a tractor negotiating some blind S bends- he obviosuly got pissed off waiting for the tractor and overtook the lot as he went round another blind bend- again... any innocent coming the other way.......

I was going to pull over and call 112 but didnt know where you get with the non urgent police phone number or whether it works from a mobile.

My idea was maybe as police are about in the sunshine but stay in the station on rainy days there might be one ahead  (30 miles stretch of raod with no turnoffs) to maybe pull him over and see if he was drunk, under the influence or just plain stupid

What should you do if you see someone driving dangerously? by the way the other drivers pulled over they all thought he was a lunatic and didnt want to be involved in his next accident?

I have his registration - worth a call now? someone could maybe call by... or is that a waste of police time? no evidence just a rant from me  :\

What should you do if you see someone driving dangerously?

Use a revolver.
Someone sent me a postcard picture of the earth. On the back it said, "Wish you were here."

Do report it and the police will make inquiries, usually a letter to the registered owner stating the time place etc. You probably won't hear anything back about it but maybe i'll make the driver think again in the future. A black mark is put against the car and if there are any other reports then a case can start to be built. Maybe some else has already reported it.
Remember if members of the public don't report these things then the police can't do anything about it and thats why they get away with it.

Without other witnesses prepared to back up your statement-police wont/cant act. You & the other vehicle drivers did the right thing-let the idiot have his accident AHEAD OF and NOT INVOLVING YOU. We experience this sort of driving behaviour frequently in the West Mids (Bham).-guess its types with nothing to lose-no licence, insurance, etc. You know the story. Get stopped by police,no docs showing on PNC, arrested, car confiscated & crushed, court appearance, fined, straight down the car auctions & spend fine money on another cage.Apart from occasional purges involving ANPR cameras, cars, bikes & police vans, there is minimal police presence on our roads so the odds are in the scrotes favour everytime. :'(

Is it an example of "X-box" syndrome where young'uns today are conditioned to crash/burn/new life from hours spent playing computer games?

A hard, painful and expensive lesson awaits around the next bend. Hopefully I won't be the instructor.
I used to not give a foc, then I discovered Red Bull and now I don't give a flying foc !!!

Deffo what Skippernick says - public are empowered / encouraged to report bad / dangerous driving nowadays -while it may not appear to have been enacted upon to you immediatley, nutters like that need reporting.  Maybe write a short letter to the local constabulary, you'll get a reply rather than just telling some bod at the public counter (whenever they're open)
Gotta say though, see so many of my fellow 'bikers' doing similar to this.  Mostly 'cos 50mph limits and solid whites are springing up everywhere and are far too common now.  It's so frustrating where a bike can clearly make a safe overtake, I know, If it's solid white your side, you must not straddle or cross - punishable by points and / or death!  Those that CAN drive/ride safely unfortnately have to be regulated against also to contain the idiots that don't know how to.  It's just not fair!  :rolleyes
IF IT AIN'T BROKE, FIX IT 'TILL IT IS.

101 is the non-emergency number. 112 is the EU form of 999 (and I believe does work int the UK)

report it. heddlu will put a marker against the vehicle for future reference (s.56 iirc). if he pops up on the radar too often he might incur the wrath of the local constabulary.
ime though it's typical welsh 'i'm a rally driver,me' attitude of the youth around there (i'm ex gwynedd/ceredigion)

112 is an emergency number. Non urgent should be directed to local cop shop.

112 exists as an international (well, certainly continental) line. You can call 112 anywhere in europe and get the emergency operator.

Just as well you didn't phone it, they would have asked if there was an emergency then told you piss off

I almost got wiped out a couple of years ago.  A car coming towards me sideways out of the exit of a sweeping bend.  It was a bit weird, I sat the bike right on the middle of the road and just thought this is it I'm gonna die, but if I'm lucky he'll head off to one side and I can dive the other way.

Anyway the car tucked in, caught the boggy verge on it's side of the road and passed me starting a big roll which in turn covered me in mud, grass and boggy stuff.

I stopped and walked back, I thought he was probably dead or seriously injured.  I asked the guy in the Golf GTI who was following me (he was quick) if anybody got out the car.  "He's standing right there" he said and pointed.  Hardly a scratch on him, naturally I had a few words with him, though he hadn't even seen me.  His nice 2 year old Seat Leon was a total wreck.

I left, and popped by the local police station.  They weren't interested, but I insisted they take down my details as a witness (who was nearly killed) and pass em onto the traffic dudes.  2 days later traffic interviewed me on the phone.  A few days later they called me, they told me they had charged him and he had admitted dangerous driving (silly boy).

I had another incident where a chap from my work got upset that I had overtaken him (you know the ones, they just hate bikers), he tried to stuff his car up the inside of me on a narrow road as I was having a peek past a council refuse truck to see if I could pass it safely.  I ended up booting his car several times, and doing full power overtake over a blind crest to get away from him as he wouldn't back off.  I reported him to HR and to the police, they visited me and in turn pay him a visit.  He also happened to be driving his wife's car which now has my boot marks all over it's wing.

I don't mind folks driving fast, I accept people make mistakes and yes accidents do happen.  I don't generally contact the police about anything, and that guy is the only person in 25 years of working that I've complained to management about.

From what you describe, if that person keeps driving like that, then there's going to be an accident (if you can actually call it that).  So if you have the details, then why not make that call, or write a letter.  It won't do any harm, and if a few folks who have seen him do it, who knows it might do a load of good.

Thanks I will write to llandod police station but as I guess they are packing boxes for their move to new premises they will be busy
We were told of a non urgent number 101 but I guess that only works from a landline to the local station not sure what happens from a mobile
I would like to say he was a young tearaway but he was middle aged with a personalised registration...... And lucky to have survived this long if he drives like that
