Nice! I go to Croyde every year for a surfing holiday and there's some lovely roads and countryside there.

I see you're coming from Wales, so definitely ride the A39 along the north coast from Bridgwater to Barnstaple and on to Bude (or beyond), especially the sections around Porlock and Lynmouth for hairpin bends :)

From Bude you can head east on the A3072 to Exeter or down the B3254 to Launceston and then take the A30 to Exeter. You could even head a bit further down into Cornwall on the B3254 to Liskeard, then take the A38 east to Plymouth and pick up the A386 which will lead you to the B3212 across Dartmoor and back to Exeter.

There's lots of others, though, such as the A377 from Exeter to Barnstaple and the A396 from Exeter to Minehead. Also check out the B2332, B3234 and B3227 across Exmoor.

It's a bit late now, but I'd recommend picking up a copy of The Best Rides Motorcycle Atlas which highlights a lot of these roads.

Be aware the A39 from Bridgewater Wiliton is now a 50 limit with double white lined in most place, further along its better.

All of the A3227. Absolute stonker of a road.  :lol
Some say that he eats habanero chilli peppers dipped in oil of capsaicin for extra bite and that his pyjamas are made from Nomex. All we know is, he's called Ad the Bad

I think I have done the A39 in the car so that is a definite and I will try the other suggestions too.

Have to buy a map when we get down there to plan the route as I seem to have lost the south west map out of my waterproof ALDI set  :'(

Still........ fitted a marine 12v cigarette socket on the front fairing this afternoon and got a Givi satnav cover for the monster 5" screen so I can watch the route even if I cant hear it- and anyway I am on a tour- If I go wrong thats half the fun isnt it?

Sorry Rayburn- I went and did it!

Excellent time with my lad on his Balckbird and brother in law on a blade.

Spent some time ridinfg the blackbird and I have to say raw power cant be beaten but I was happy to get back on my comfortable Fazer

Have to reccomend
A396 from Brampton to Wheddon Cross- what the Fazer was meant for twisty and steep inclines
Left B3224 to Simonsbath- fast straights and twisty corners
Right on to the B3223 to Lynmouth- oh wow!!
A39 Contisbury hill leaving Lynmouth. .... if you can wait a minute or three at the bottom of the hill until traffic ahead has cleared and then go and enjoy yourself but dont watch the scenery as that cliff must be 300feet high!!

Well done that man.
Lovely part of the world, and the roads are fantastic here.
Did you go on to Minehead? Its a good run. Then take the road from Minehead to Dunster and down to Tiverton, visit the canal, then back along the A361 to Barnstaple. Its a 120 mile round trip.

That Simonsbath road from Blackmore Gate is something else all along the edge of the Moors.

Also quite good is the A39 from Barnstaple to Bude, Wadebridge, Padstow and as time permits onto Falmouth.
Then there is the south coast, not so interesting but still good. Fowey to Polpero, Looe Portwinkle, then Liskeard Launceston A388 to Holsworthy.

By the way, where did you stay?
I have a Holiday chalet just outside Bideford, ideal for such a trip. That's what I was going to offer you at a very good price......
But too late now.

Thats handy to know Rayburn- we stayed in Doniford at a Haven site with a Sun holiday so paid about £100 all in with entertainment and linnen (save space on the bike)- bargain!

Where is your site ? we love it down there

here is my bike in touring mode

Soft luggage, a tank bag and a Givi satnav waterproof bag on the handlebars- sorted!

Eat your heart out... No1 son at Contisbury hill outside Lynmouth last Saturday
