« on: 18 October 2011, 11:52:34 am »
i have been having the problem with the bike jumping out of 2nd and found this on the old forum http://fazerowners.yuku.com/topic/31326/second-gear-jumping-out-engine-almost-out-any-advice?page=1
no one actually said if a thundercat drum/selector forks would fit a fzs 600, will it??? ??
i am attempting mine this weekend however i refuse to drop the engine out again so im doing it in the bike with the help of my dad and a few mates any tips to make it easier?

Wish that post had been around a couple of years ago when I had the same problem... I'd no idea that the job could be done in situ.
Rather than take the engine out and repair, I figured a replacement engine from a breaker was the cheapest solution. Agree with you that engine swaps are a pain in the proverbial though.
Sorry I can't offer any advice (other than to talk to Deefer), but will be very interested to hear how it goes.

Your problem will be with the selector fork or locating dogs on the second gear. Mine had a fecked 6th gear and constantly jumped out of gear, i changed the gear box and all the selectors. You really need to split the engine to check that the second gear is ok...........Think on the plus side, winters here.....well nearly, so you can do it at your leisure, plus all the other bits and pieces we never get round to concerning the engine. :D

As mentioned the forks ans shafts are the same but the drum is different..... It can be done in situ but its a real ball ache of a job, you need the pipes off, sump off ans whole clutch assembly out and even then its difficult.

It helps if you have two people and the bike elevated so you can get under it......but you are making work for yourself and I personally would remove the engine to do it.
