Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Uneven brake pad wear
« on: 19 September 2020, 12:33:26 pm »
Does uneven brake pad wear indicate an issue with my wheel?

Long time no hear! It's been a few years since I was last on here...

I took my bike in to the Yammy stealer for a puncture repair (turns out it was just the valves), when I set off I immediately noticed a rubbing sound from the front, took it back and they said it was the front wheel bearing.

I've just checked for play and the wheel is solid. So I took the brake calipers off (they were a bit sticky), and the front left(facing the bike) has almost worn out the inside pad. The right side pads are pretty even, if slightly more worn on the inside.

But it's a bit odd to have just one pad worn out - does that indicate some other issue?

And does anyone recommend some replacement pads?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / New battery
« on: 16 April 2018, 03:47:26 pm »
Just got a new Lithium battery, as I was sick of the AGM ones failing after a year.

I thought they had sent me an empty box it's so light! See attached pic.

Even holding it, it feels like the bottom section is empty.

Let's hope this one keeps its charge.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Motobatt piece of #!%
« on: 21 April 2017, 04:59:37 pm »
I've only had the battery for a year and probably only used the bike six months of the year and it's completely dead.

It was fine two days ago, I left the bike as per usual, just on the immobiliser, so that wouldn't drain the battery any more than normal.

But even if I had managed to leave the sidelights on I would still expect the battery to be low but not dead.

I can't charge it and if I swap the terminals it doesn't even warn me that they are on the wrong way, so it's now a paperweight.

Anyone recommend a replacement that's any good? Last one I had was a Yuasa, and they hate the cold.
Really need one that holds it's charge well, and lasts longer than a year.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Mt10 test ride
« on: 09 June 2016, 04:44:18 pm »
Anybody else tried one? I went out yesterday for an hour. They stick it on the 'baby' settings at first, and that makes it slightly more powerful feeling than my fzs thou. But after five minutes I put it on the 'wow' settings :p
It's got instant go whenever you twist the throttle. And it turns so easily!

Fantastic v-twin like sound from the exhaust. I think i annoyed quite a few people yesterday!

It's not pleasant on bumpy roads though, a gel seat will help a bit, but they are about £220.

This is a bike for hoons, I used up a fair about of fuel in that hour. But wasn't quite convinced it was that much better than my old bike - until i got back on it. It felt old and slow in comparison!

This is definitely a good bike, but not sure I can justify spending ten grand on it...

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / 2nd gear gone again
« on: 02 August 2015, 11:46:01 am »
Are these gears made out of tin foil? This is the second time my second gear has lost teeth.

Ok, first time I tried too many wheelies, but I don't bother with those any more. My gear changing is smooth - mostly :-)

Are aftermarket gear cogs any better?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Lost my nuts!
« on: 03 June 2015, 08:10:13 pm »
And bolts, after putting new forks in and putting everything back together I seem to be missing two bolts from the back of the front mudguard :(

I've looked everywhere and can't find them. For anyone know what size bolt I can use as a replacement? Hopefully attached pic comes out

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Torque setting for front wheel

As per the subject, can someone let me know the setting for the front wheel spindle?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Fork height
« on: 30 May 2015, 09:20:59 pm »
Soooo, I've taken off the old forks but not noticed how high they sit when clamped at the top.

Can someone let me know the measurement from the top of the fork to the clamp? Or does it not make too much difference?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Failed the MOT :(
« on: 10 December 2014, 07:22:04 pm »
Rather vague reason for failure was that the forks were too stiff. (FZS1000 39k)

I did have them wound up quite a bit, however after winding them down to very soft it doesn't seem to have made a
lot of difference...

I did have a fender bender years ago and they were 'fixed', but about a year after that I had to have then sorted out again as the seals were leaking.

Think I might leave it until after crimbo to get sorted.

Is there a usual issue associated with forks that wont soften up? Oil related?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Anyone tried a Power line battery?
« on: 25 June 2014, 08:00:42 pm »
My Motobatt has failed on me, I've only had it for about two years.

After looking around I found the Powerline batteries for £30 and the CCA is higher than Motobatt at 190.

Anybody tried them?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Brake light problem
« on: 30 April 2014, 05:07:21 pm »
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about my brake lights not working:

FZS1000, both headlights and tail lights function, but applying the hand brake or foot brake does
not activate the second filament of the brake lights bulbs.

Fuses are all ok, indicators also work fine, its just the brake lights.

I checked the wiring where it connects from the master cylinder and that appears to be ok.

Right, after owning an Ohlins rear shock for nearly a year I finally got around to fitting it on Sat - with the help of a mate with all the tools you might need
and then some!

But what an arsey job for something that should be easy - how the hell are you supposed to get to the top nut on the right hand side with an ordinary spanner???
A 1/4" ratchet with flexi head came in very handy for that one.

Also ended up fitting the original dog-bones as we couldn't work out how to compress the shock to bring the rocker up higher so we could connect the
shorter dog-bones. Putting a jack under the rocker to lift it just pushed the whole bike up, it may have worked if someone sat on the bike but it wasn't
that stable with the jack only supporting the rocker.

And finally, had to use a longer bolt on the rear footpeg to enable us to bolt the compression damping adjustment knob on.

That took about 3 1/2 hours with breaks - still, saved probably £100 paying a mechanic to do the job.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / How long to service the bike?
« on: 12 September 2013, 09:17:09 pm »
I'm booked in for 36k service - which the stealer has said will take about three hours - does that sound a little excessive? Or about right?

They also want to add 1 1/2 hours for the chain and sprockets...

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Clicking sound from the rear?
« on: 11 August 2013, 10:10:45 pm »
Hi all,
So I got the dealer to fit my head bearings, while he was doing it he noticed the chain needed tightening but said that
one of the nuts was "seized".

I checked when I got home and adjusted it no problem, although I have noticed that when I got back from my ride this afternoon
that there is a clicking noise coming from the back wheel hub.

Does that sound like something I need to worry about?

Chain and sprockets are on 36,500 miles and still five marks left on the swingarm, although I guess they are due to be changed...

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Exhaust port headers?
« on: 04 August 2013, 10:42:16 am »
Not sure of the exact term for them, but I'm talking about the connection between the exhaust outlet and the exhaust headers.

Mine are looking pretty rusty and corroded, I was looking at getting them replaced, any recommendations?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Recommendation for head bearings?
« on: 24 July 2013, 08:59:48 pm »
Sooo, seeing as my recent fender bender with the back with a Merc seems to have loosened the head bearings, and it's time they were replaced,
anyone got recommendations for replacement parts? is OEM the best bet or are there cheaper alternatives that do just as good a job or better?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Electrical problem
« on: 09 July 2013, 07:37:33 pm »
After smacking into the back of a stationary car around a blind corner and dropping the bike on the right side,
my right indicator is not working.

The bulb is ok as is the wiring, however, the bulb for the sidelight has blown - that wouldn't cause the indicator
circuit to fail would it?

« on: 16 June 2013, 08:28:43 am »
Took about three hours to edit, and re-edit due to a crap pc and freebee software.

This is a short section that I like to ride down - avoiding all the potholes along the way....

Apologies for the quality - Youtube seem to have uploaded the worst quality, and it doesn't change even if you select 1080p...

General / Pushing the front
« on: 21 May 2013, 08:35:05 am »
Question for you more experiencing bikers...

I was checking my tyres the other day and noticed I don't have any chicken strips on the front (it's not a brag honest!).
The thing is I don't feel like I have been leaning the bike to the limit, I.e pegs down, but if I'm already on the edge of the front,
if I try and lean further, won't I be going beyond the tyre limits?

Michelin pr3 tyres by the way.
I don't recall ever not having chicken strips on the front with previous tyres.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Latest video
« on: 17 February 2013, 11:24:45 pm »
Ok - so not the best video, the software seems to have lowered the quality even though I set it as full HD, the logo for the evaluation
hangs around for a while at the beginning.

It's not seamless because the useless GoPro battery is shite, it kept dying on me - I'll remember to fully charge it before I go out next time.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Dog bones up or down kits £45-55
« on: 13 February 2013, 09:44:13 pm »
While trying to find some Dog bones for someone else I came across this site -
http://www.lustracing.co.uk/suspension/yamaha-jack-up-kits.html
http://www.lustracing.co.uk/suspension/yamaha-lowering-kits.html

£45 for the FZS but £55 for the FZ1, they only seem to have 25mm and 45mm jack up height
and 30mm or 45mm for the lowering kits.

Good price, nice looking kit...

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Snail horns
« on: 05 February 2013, 08:01:05 pm »
Anyone fitted the dual snail horns sold by M&P?
I found it difficult enough fitting one horn on, so would appreciate pics if anyone has these horns fitted.

Managed to upload part of todays rideout - don't forget to change the quality to 1080p (or the best your pc can handle).

Sorry about the slightly wonky angle, stupid Gopro accessories are fiddly to fit and tighten up.
