I wear my textiles 95% of the time. 'waterproof', warm and with vents as needed.

I wouldn't wear an open face helmet, but then I'm a good looking foc-er that doesn't like the idea of sliding along the road on my face or eating the side of a car.

And sooooooooo modest

But forget the insulating tape, cut it, solder it and heat shrink it.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Wiring connectors
« on: 06 September 2016, 02:27:46 pm »
I would have persisted in getting the two parts of that (White) connector apart personally as it is the supply to the headlamps and instrumentation among other things.
I went through a week or two of my headlights just dropping out on me and losing instrumentation, but a quick turn of the ignition off and then back on again brought the lights back and returned instrumentation.
I don't ride at night so I was not unduly concerned, but, when I went away on holiday I relied on the bike as it was my only transport whilst away, and riding down a narrow lane with passing places on night I had just rounded a very sharp left hander (Complete with gravel on the crown of the road) and was thrown in to total darkness, fortunately I did not know the road otherwise I may have been pushing on, but, as it was I was doing probably doing less than 20, and as the bike was upright I just slammed on both brakes and stopped fine, albeit totally blind.

I had to be rescued by following a 4X4 to civilization, bike was still rid-able just no lights or instrument.
On arriving home I checked all the usual things battery connections, all connectors under the seat, wiggled the ignition key, popped the fairing infill panels off to check the connection at the headlamps and all seemed to be fine but still no lights.
Standing there with my hands over the left hand side of the fairing thinking rude thoughts to myself i touched the infamous large with multi electrical connector, and low and behold the lights fired up, wiggled it again and out they went, I did this a couple of times just to convince myself I had by luck found the fault.

The two halves of my connector wanted a lot of encouragement to let go of each other but when they did it was instantly obvious that a number of the connection halves had corroded away and were only making contact intermittently.
I cut the wires tight to each half of the connector (Colour coded so all good, but take a photo with your phone just in case) slipped a 50 mm length of shrink fit over one half of each pair, bared 15 mm off the end of each wire twisted them together inline and soldered, then slipped heat shrink over joint and gently heated the shrink with a fag lighter (No I don't smoke) and jobs a good-un.
That was 2 maybe 3 years ago and have never had a problem since.

I have heard that this is quite a common fault with these push fit connectors if that are in a venerable place IE: under the infill panel on a Fazer FZS 600. especially if you are a bit anal about washing and polishing it (Me Me) or the bike is out in all weathers.
I guess thinking back I repaired about 4 maybe 5 pairs of wires, the others were ok.
Cable tie around the connector pulled up tight after a liberal spray of WD40.

Until that happened I never really understood when someone said that something frightened that much they could have crushed a walnut between the cheeks of their arse :moon

Only one real gripe, Maltese cross tail lights, focin things been around for ever. Anyone who finds them cool should be forced to gargle a pint of horse spunk

Only one pint, damn you are too nice to people.
I agree with your sentiment about them rear lights, even bikers from Malta hate them.

Oh Fuck!
Me and my big mouth, I went for a blast down to Waterlooville and on to Loomies Cafe at the West Meon Hut this afternoon.
Came back home got on the FOC-U website and slagged off all the miserable old grumpys on here, went outside bato put the FZS 600 away, took the bike off the centre stand and trod on something sharp raised foot rapidly and dropped the bike. Scuffed fairing, small pea sized dent in the tank, small scratch in the tank paintwork about 1 inch long, small scuff in the black paint on the engine case (Foot brake side) scuffed one of my led driving lamps. I feel I got away light really as the brunt of the impact was taken by the saddle hitting the edged of a very large glazed flower pot on the patio. 50% of the fairing scuff came out with some Autosol metal polish and I have touched up the engine case with some smooth black Hammerite gloss and also the side of the LED spot.

So be nice to me.
PS: I had a tear in my eye as I struggled to pick the bike back up with the help of my wife and my next door neighbour.
No seriously I did have a tear, I love that bike. :'(

Just read all the comments in this link, what a miserable load of grumpy old FOCERS you lot are.
Listening to you lot of old twats you would have us all riding 175 BSA Bantams or 197 Fanny Barnetts and wearing leather and cork skid lids or driving around in Vauxhall Vivas or Chevettes or maybe an Austin 1100 with steel wheels and chrome bumpers oh and don't forget those wonderful cross-ply tyres

You getting old before your time.

I read all the comments and realised you are ALL talking about me LOL!

I have blue LED cree strip lights lights on the front of my HAIRDRESSERS car and a 4" bore tail pipe, I have painted the calipers pillar box red. I wash the car a couple of times a week (I enjoy doing it gives me pleasure) and polish it every other week, I dress the tyre walls with wet look dressing, and if all that make me a twat an idiot or just a tart for driving a MR2, then so-be-it, guilty as charged.

I love it when a 1200 Corsa goes flying up the road with a loud large bore zonker on the back  making a shed load of noise, if the poor bugger cant afford a Maserati his Corsa can at least sound nice, plus it take the attention of the old bill away from me a bit.

Anyway I wouldn't mind betting most of you have fitted an after market sports cans on your bikes, rear huggers, fender extenders, and petty coloured Stainless braided brake line, not to mention front screens so dark that you can't see through them and block the light more like a foccing black hole.

As far as lights on in daylight goes, I agree dipped is best, but I would sooner make a car driver squint a little than have him or her take me down cos they didn't see me.

Oh! by the way this is all a little tongue in cheek but there is also some truth in it.

YES I REALLY DO DRIVE AN MR2 HAIRDRESSER CAR with all the above mentioned tweeks or is that tweaks or maybe tweerks  :rollin :rolleyes

One other thing! When did the stop making the FSZ 600 Boxeye? I saw one today at Loomies at West Meon Hut with an 03 plate on it, it wasn't a foxeye that had the screen changed as it had all the other Boxeye bits and bobs like smaller fuel tank.

PS: and it was a slow Red one.

Found this on my rear tyre after I got back from coast this afternoon. :eek ,
Seems a strange direction for a tyre to get cut, you would expect it to be in direction of rotation.
???????
That's what I thought, trouble is when you look at the tyre really close up it looks like a split not a cut, as if the tyre has got a manufacturing fault.
Its a Contimotion and found on the web there was a recall a couple of years ago for Contiattacks but only a certain size, not my size tyre. When I get it replaced on Saturday morning I am going to keep the old tyre and send some photos to Continental, see what they say.

What tyre are you going to replace it with ? not another Continental would be my guess.
Lots of good tyres out there and equally as many opinions as to which are the best.
I found a tyre that I am happy with and stick to what I know, I ride on Bridgstone Battlax, some say they are not so good in the wet (I sound like Mr Clarkson) all I know is 'Leave the bike in the shed when its raining'

Ok, let's try to upload some pics of this new bike of mine, it's in lovely condition and only covered 11,000 miles.

Hey! what part of Austrailia are you in? Each time I turn my iPad up the other way to view your pics the bloody things flip.
How do you stop all the fuel running out with the bike like this?
Seriously though the bike looks really tidy. How long you had?

Use the meter the way Tommy suggested (after the old fart understood your question and posted again  :pokefun ).
If your meter is different in any way to Tommy's £2 Lidl special, then post up a pic of the meter and we can tell you exactly where the leads go etc..

Cheeky foccer Lidl would not stock crap like that, I got it from Maplins at Farnbrough

Terry said about £1-40. I fucking near fell over laughing. :rollin :rollin :rollin

but what settings do I use on the multimeter???  Never used one before and really should have learnt a long time ago!  LOL  I're got 2 holes for the red cable, which do I use? the amps one or the ohms one?  black is nice and easy there is only one hole :-)  Honestly, total multimeter virgin here..... be gentle ha ha

if you connect the red and the black the wrong way around it will give you a negitive/minus voltage reading, just read it as a positive reading.

Here the best way this is how my multi is set up

Or set the multimetre to 20 volt DC, attach the multimeter (Red wire) to the power supply on the wiper motor, with ignition and wiper switch on and touch the other wire to the chassis of the motor or down to earth on car, if needle or display swings around to show a voltage above 12 volts the the supply is good and the motor is likely to be duff

Flick the switch, if that don't work make sure the ignition is on then check the fuses are ok and then the power supply to and from the switch is good plus the earth to the motor is ok.
If all these are positive my guess would be the motor is F----D
