Took her out for her first post lockdown thrashing. Nothing too manic, just a good 75miles around the wolds. Was definitely chilly but worth the sacrifice to be out on the road again

Are those wavy discs any better than std or is it mainly cosmetic? That's a cracking colour scheme, did you have it done?

No they are probably just cosmetic Haha when I bought it the last owner had put shit chinese wavy discs on and they were rusting so I needed to replace them. I did buy some barely used originals but didn't like the look so ended up going for these.

As for the paint job its was on the bike when i bought it, it's a limited edition Abarth Assetto Corse paint scheme that Yamaha did on a prototype when it teamed up with abarth. I've got the paperwork with the bike that shows the original painter paid for the design directly from Abarth in Italy and it was painted at an Abarth dealer in the uk so the design is perfect. Apparently every line has to be a certain mm from the next for it to be the true Abarth style 🤷‍♂️ All I know is that there are quite a few copies about but apparently less than 5 'genuinely painted' ones.

The look is Its the only reason i went for this bike 😅
I was planning on buying a Fireblade but then saw one of these online and couldn't believe how nice it looked, then did my research, read reviews etc etc and started looking for one to buy
I scoured the country and got mine from up in the lake district (even though I live in Lincolnshire) and about a month after I got it another one came up for sale in Lincoln!...30 miles down the road 🙄

Great looking livery mate  :thumbup It does look a lot like Yamaha's own speed block livery, this is someone's interruption of it on their FZ1  8)

Changed the fork oil on the 1000, put 7.5w back into it, had 10W to see what it was like, but made the front too stiff on compression for my liking on our undulating roads. Back to normal again  :woot

Nice early 7:30 start this morning, taking in some Sussex and Hampshire B and A roads. Although Loomies is closed, the place was very busy. The garage next door doing a roaring trade for coffee and sandwiches. Cops were out in force with a speed trap approaching West Meon village from Loomies. Spotted him just in time, phew.

*Finally* managed to get the sleeve out of the bottom of the rear shock on my FZ6!

What a foccing stupid piece of design by Yamaha  :2guns

(NB I'll post details of how I did it in the FZ6 forum area for the benefit of anyone else who wants to see how to do it :thumbup )

Another good ride out today, doing the A272 down to the A31 junction, and then a loop into Sussex on the way back. Another 230 miles racked up on the Fazer, which is running sweet as a nut.

Having finally got the right (27mm) socket to undo the swingarm bolt on my FZ6 (and a nice sturdy breaker bar!) I finally managed to get the swing arm off.

After using a whole can of degreaser to get all the built-up crap off it (I really should wash the bike more often :( ) I was pleased to find that the bearings and seals were fine and now it's time to start putting it all back together and installing the braided brake lines and new rear shock :thumbup

An early morning whizz up to Saffron Walden, taking in Surrey,Kent,Essex and a bit of Suffolk, clocking up 170 miles. Plenty of bikes out. Stopped off at Finchingfield on the way home. Never been there before, but will certainly go back to sample the tea shop, when things are hopefully back to something like normal.

If you're going to take a whole load of photos and record videos of the bits you're taking off the bike, it probably makes sense to actually LOOK at the foccing things when you're trying to put it back together.
That way you don't spend two hours faffing around trying to get a banjo bolt into a barely accessible hole in the depths of the frame under the loom and constantly feeling like it's cross threading or just not going in properly until you FINALLY look at the stuff you recorded and realise that you're trying to put the thing on with the metal bend the wrong foccing way round!!!   :'(

Stripped and serviced the front brakes. New seals, bleed nipples and slider pins, cleaned and polished the pistons, repainted the calipers and installed new red braided lines 😎
Took a good few hours but has been a lovely morning out in the sun, although the installation was aided by a few cold ciders so no test riding u til tomorrow haha

Added some before and after pics for anyone who's interested

Yes, it was a sticker on it. There was another sticker  in the box. I took off the original. I think I will leave it off for now. Not that easy to get it off either

What the FOC is it with Yamaha's designers that they like to bury parts of the bike in ridiculously inaccessible places on their bikes, such as putting a clip that holds the clutch cable deep inside the frame meaning you need to lift the tank and take out the airbox to get to it?!

Today, after previously having a nightmare of a job getting the "ABS Modulator Cover Plate" out to take off the old brake pipes (which involved removing the rear wheel, rear shock and exhaust pipe mid-section), I was trying to put bits back together again.

I was trying to reconnect the front brake system with the new braided pipes, but the connectors to the hard pipes from the ABS modulator are, again, stuck behind part of the frame, so there's no way to tighten them up properly when they're in place (and, of course you don't want them leaking!)

The only way I could secure them was to connect the braided pipes loosely to the hard pipes, feed the whole lot through a gap in the frame manoeuvre them around to figure out exactly what position they needed to be in, then take the whole lot *out* again, so I could tighten up the bolts and put it all back once more!

Took the 1000 out for its first run since February, 100 miles around the north Oxfordshire & Warwickshire countryside. Great, quiet roads, great weather and a brilliant bike.

Typical, ruins a perfectly good picture of a Fazer  :lol
