Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Genuine Fazer 1000 clutch kit
« on: 14 June 2018, 04:25:01 pm »
I tried buying genuine clutch plates using the quantities and part numbers from the Parts pages and I couldn’t get the clutch to work, in the end I bought ebc and I have had no issues, I did stick to genuine springs though as heavy duty isn’t required.

I bought all of my bolts from toolstation, they are cheaper than screwfix and if you spend over £10 you get free delivery.

« on: 04 October 2017, 06:49:49 am »

I bought the same white dials as Dusty but they're still sat on a shelf in my garage!  :rolleyes

I can't see the speedo too clearly either when riding, it's a crap bit of design frankly.

Just bought a satnav so intend to use that & the white dials.........
Not as bad a design as the speedo on my piaggio X9 (Work bike) the mph markings are on the inside and kmh on the outside and is larger, I can just about see the mph markings in daylight, at night not a hope in hell of seeing what speed I’m doing, in the end I drilled through the top layer on the 30,50 and 70mph lines so I could easily see what speed I’m doing, the light shows through but is still defused so doesn’t dazzle.

I followed the last part of the link and got this but not sure if it's the correct picture - http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj38/solorider_uk/IMG_4441.jpg.html if it is then the vent pipe and the electrics get tucked in a channel in the sprocket cover so they are out of the way.

Just took a photo to show the pipes etc running through the sprocket cover channel.

Your picture has helped, if you look at the 2 metal pipes just above the sprocket cover which go into rubber, one of mine is connected and the other isn't, I'm assuming that must go to the air box as it goes in that direction, just got to find the pipe location now.

I'm in the process of rebuilding my bike, a 2002 fazer 1000, I have some pipes which i haven't got a clue where it goes, it is a vent pipe which goes Around the back of the engine,

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Alarm wiring question
« on: 22 August 2017, 07:06:33 pm »
One of the plugs does have a jumper in it but I think the other is missing, I do have an alarm to fit and would rather use those plugs rather than splicing into the harness, but I need to find out which wire does what.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Alarm wiring question
« on: 18 August 2017, 10:42:40 am »
in the process of doing my bike up I have changed the wiring harness, on the "new" harness there is 2 plugs with one of them having a joining wire, I presume this is for the alarm, so anyone know which wire does what and can you buy the plugs? My old harness didn't have these plugs.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Stick coil mod
« on: 17 August 2017, 10:34:00 am »
a couple of years a go I did a stick coil mod on my bike because of a misfire, one thing I can say is I won't go back to the old type coils as there is more space on top and the cam cover looks neater. I had to recently replace one of my coils due to someone cutting the wires to one and stealing it!! I was lucky in that I found an already modified harness off eBay that looks better than my original. I will post some pictures when I get a chance.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Chinese radiators
« on: 17 August 2017, 10:29:58 am »
last year I bought a radiator from china, that turned up in a week, well I have now fitting it at last as I'm rebuilding my bike ground up, if anyone is considering them I can say the bracket are more flimsy, i.e. Thinner, the end covers fitted ok as did the fan, but the radiator grille was a bit of a struggle, it does look a little smaller in the cross tubes so may make the bike run a bit warmer but time will tell. Annoyingly my old radiator didn't leak just the brackets had broke off due to corrosion.

I always go for the Michelin PR2's they are still a brilliant tyre, last for ever, excellent grip, and cheaper than the latest tyres out. What more reason do you need? (Unless they stop producing them).

Can't find that many places selling them, so I might stock up, Wheelhouse tyres has a pair for £181
I have just had a pair fitted by my local bike garage, they ordered them and they turned up next day, I paid £184 fitted to loose wheels.

what is the difference between the slip on kit which i have already and the full monty in the jetting side of things? i know you have to mod the airbag and intake rubbers but I'm confused about the jetting differences, i already have a performance air filer on the bike

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Insurance claim
« on: 13 August 2017, 10:25:11 pm »
I had an accident 3 years  ago and the payout was higher than expected, I got paid out £1800 for a 51 plate with 75k miles on it, I only paid £1400 for the bike 2 years earlier!! Sometimes you can get a very good offer but not always, it depends on the insurance company.

I fitted an ebc clutch kit with standard springs which are fine, I don't have any issues with my clutch.

have a look at your coils and the leads, they can break down or corrode, mine had something similar and it was a broken pin in one of the plug leads at the coil end

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Not running on all 4 pots properly
« on: 17 October 2016, 10:13:26 am »
on my bike i had a problem the same as yours and it was the pins in the coils where the leads push on to, mine had corroded and one had broke, i did the stick coil mod and the problem went away, now runs perfectly (well it did before i took it off the road)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Choke is stuck (sorted)
« on: 07 October 2016, 10:34:00 am »
The choke plungers are a common thing to seize up, usually the choke lever breaks when this happens, and you can't buy the choke lever from Yamaha as it only comes with the switchgear.

Your listing is unclear regarding what's included:
- link pipe? if so is this the stainless or titanium version?
- connecting springs?
- hanging bracket?
- baffle?
- baffle screw?
If your auction price is for the lot it's reasonable, if just the can it's a bit fruity.
Looking at the picture he has the original down pipes.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Radiator Fan woes
« on: 28 August 2016, 10:26:40 am »
I repaired a snapped off lug on my Gen 1 radiator with Technoweld but like you I found the pencil blowtorches just don't get it hot enough to get the weld started. The whole radiator is a massive heat sink so it soaks a lot of heat up. Use a proper blow torch and go easy. It works like a charm when you get it right and you can reheat it and move it if it's not in the right position.

If the weld doesn't hold, it will be because of corrosion. Mine eventually became so rotten it just wasn't worth the effort - you can't weld corrosion! So I bought a cheap radiator on eBay

Radiator Cooling Aluminum Replacement for YAMAHA FZS1000 1998-2003 99 00 01 2002

Definitely not as well made as the Yamaha OE (it's 80 quid, not 400) but it's been on the bike for 20k miles now, so it works. Luckily, there are many more fans than radiators on eBay, so it's usually not a problem. And R1 fans are the same, you just need to keep the original mount/surround and bolt it on, but again, when the bolts are so corroded, it's very easy to snap the surround.

I also bought one of those radiators as well, but I haven't fitted it yet, I was surprised how quick it turned up, mine took a week from China.

My bike had a similar issue with yours and I found corrosion and a broken pin in the coils where the leads fit into the coil. Worth a look.
