Posting to general in the hope that someone lucky enough to own both bikes can answer this :

I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere...
[/size]Is the fuel tank on the final 2002/3 FZS600 foxeye the same external size and shape as the tank on the FSZ1000? As far as I am aware there is (I think) a 1 litre difference but don't know if this is down to something internal like the length of the filler head or something similar. I don't have a 1000 near me to compare but from images online the tanks look very similar.Reason for asking is that I'm looking for a tank cover (Bagster) for a 2003 FZS600 and don't know if tank covers for the 1000 will also fit either exactly or very nearly..? I know that covers for the pre 2002 FZS 600 are totally out of the question because the tank shape is totally different.

Actually you’re wrong about the different versions of 600 tank cover,
I bought one that came off a 2003 model for my 2000 version, and although at first i thought there was no way it would fit, once it’s all pulled into place from each sides it fits absolutely fine.

The 1000 tank is definitely different to the 600 (it’s a bit bigger).

Odd you say that, 'cos the 1000 is 21 litres and his 600 version is 22 litres?

600's have 3 versions by the way.

98/99 18 litres
00/01 20 litres
02/03 22 litres

“Bigger” is a bit ambiguous I suppose. Bigger in some directions but not others. Wider is more accurate. I remember a thread from a long time back where someone had chopped a tank from a 600 and 1000 up and welded them together into a frankentank. You could see which parts were bigger and smaller on those photos (can’t find the thread now).

Think these pictures kind of outline the different shapes quite well.
Can't believe the price, they were always around £110 new, must be a summer thing.

I will have mine off both later as I am going to wash them. I can check it then.

First picture is of both on correctlySecond one they are swapped over
Third is close view of front
600 tank is taller and longer, the 600 cover will fit the 1000 tank but cover will be rubbing the frame enough to wear through the paint at the headstock and the the tubes under the seat near the rear of the tank

Awesome - thanks for that. Definitely different dimensions.
