For Sale & Wanted / SOLD: FZS1000 2001 VGC - £2700ovno - SOLD
« on: 10 April 2021, 04:45:45 pm »
For sale Blue FZS1000 2001 VGC.
No longer available.

Due to lack of use I am reluctantly selling my FZS1000 gen 1 :o . I’ve owned the bike for about 10 years, it’s just turned 25k on the clock and is currently sorn.It has 12 months mot, new back tyre, new battery, new seat cover and oil and filter change. The majority of the servicing has been carried out by myself and I have kept many of the receipts.

Right the good bits: :D

 • Full monty upgrade.
 • R6 rear shock conversion.
 • Hagon front fork spring upgrade.
 • Metmachex bespoke swingarm.
 • Bespoke centrestand.
 • Datatool immobiliser.
 • Accumen gear indicator.
 • Givi top box and pannier racks. (No luggage)
 • Hugger.
 • Bellypan
 • Heated grips.
 • Braided brake hoses.
 • USB/ 12 v socket.
 • Scottoiler.
 • Devil silencer.
 • Bespoke undertray.
 • There’s bound to be something else I’ve forgotten.
Bad bits:
 • None really, just general wear and tear. For a 20 year old bike it’s in pretty good nick.
As I say it is a reluctant sale. The missus ain’t too keen on it going. But apart from firing it up occasionally I haven’t used it properly for 18 months, and covid hasn’t helped either. If it goes, it goes, if doesn’t. No great shakes.

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Spark then no spark
« on: 29 July 2016, 09:04:45 pm »
Cheers for the reply.
Having checked practically every connection I managed to get 'ere working .
I believe the main culprits were 2 furred up pins on me ECU.
Pain in the butt, but at least I wont have to touch the spark plugs for another 8K.

FZ6 / Fazer / Spark then no spark
« on: 28 July 2016, 09:16:21 pm »
Fun one this. Changed the battery on my 03 FZ6s at the weekend and while I was at it checked the air filter, expansion bottle and sprayed some wd40 on and around the injector bodies.
Gave the bike a clean, put the battery on charge and stuck it in the garage.
When I came to use it the next day the engine turned over, fuel pump came to life but the bike wouldn't start.
Did a diagnostic check and there were no issues.
Thought sod it lets change the spark plugs as they need doing and it would give me an excuse to check the wiring and other areas, as those of you will know when it comes to spark plug time it's practically strip the bike down.
Having temporarily refitted the fairing and battery I found that with the plugs exposed there was no spark if I tried to start up with the button.
But they would spark up when I did another diagnostic check.
I've checked all the connections under the seat and battery box and found nothing out of the ordinary.
Anybody got any ideas.
Cheers

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Nightmare of a brake problem - FZ6 S2
« on: 05 July 2015, 07:49:14 pm »
Just an idea. Could the issue be with the rear brake master cylinder and not the caliper? Especially if you've cleaned and replaced everything.
I would personally disconnect the brake line whilst the bike is on the centre stand and see if this releases the pressure on the rear brake pads.
If it does it could be the master cylinder sticking.

If it doesn't, I'd be tempted to by a second hand unit from a breakers, as it sounds like one of them problems that you may never get to the bottom of and drive you to an early grave.

Yes it does. As the end of the FZ6 shock that connects to the swingarm is a different design to those R6 aftermarket ones used on Fazer Gen 1's.

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: It feels like someone is flicking the engine kill
« on: 24 June 2015, 09:52:43 pm »
There is and it's shown in the FZ6 Haynes manual, but still involves lifting the tank and I can't remember if the airbox has to taken out as well. I know when I had the problem on my bike there were several FZ6 websites that also covered this is issue. Try typing "Yamaha FZ6 sensor problems" on google and see where it takes you.

I believe there were issues with 04 TPS units which was addressed and improved on 06 models onwards. At the time I was rebuilding my bike I fitted 06 throttle bodies as the originals were pretty naff. The 06 bodies came with a TPS unit already fitted. Though I still had my local dealer set them up and the TPS.

Since then my bikes been brill.

Unfortunately when issues like this occur it's a process of elimination.

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: It feels like someone is flicking the engine kill

It maybe your Throttle position sensor breaking down. This usually happens when you either slow right down or come to a stop and the engine dies on you. Which if it does and catches you out, you can end up on the floor :'(. Unfortunately unlike the TPS on a FZS 600 which is easy to get at and replace. Those on an FZ6 require the tank, airbox and injector bodies removed to access the little blighter. Which then has to be set up with a voltmeter. Price for a new one is around the £90.00 mark. Don't buy second hand, it ain't worth it.

Hope this helps.

FZ6 / Fazer / FZ6 refurb
« on: 22 September 2014, 10:42:13 pm »
Whilst convalescing the last month or so I've been busy bringing back to life a very neglected 2003 FZ6. 11K on the clock. Only done 1000 miles in the last 5 years.
Plan was to refurbish the FZ6 to replace my FZs 600 written off 3 months ago :'(. Unfortunately 4 days after the 600 biting the tarmac I was rushed into hospital to have a heart by pass :eek. As to be expected, I've done bugger all riding this summer. My FZs 1000 has been stuck in the garage with a sheet over it. Didn't even test ride the FZ6, thought sod it, price ain't too bad, let's give it a go.
However as we all know, with any project bike, once the strip down commences along comes the unexpected bit and pieces which will eat into your pocket and proposed time schedule.
Plus the great one started to notice the amount of ebay parcels arriving at our door. And comments would come forth along the lines of "I thought you were just going to change the oil and give it a clean up"
I could have used it as a work hack, but I believed there was a better bike ready to come out with a bit of tlc and elbow grease.
Heck things all round could have been a lot worse.
Hope to give it its first ride to the last WsM bike night this Thursday.

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted: Front fork stanchions FZ6 2004
« on: 10 August 2014, 11:35:42 am »
I'm after either a pair of decent front forks or stanchions to suit FZ6 2004 model. On my present forks the stanchions are pretty pitted. So before I go any further and waste time and money stripping them down I thought it best to see if anybody in foccer land had, or knew of any about and at what price.
Hopefully somebody may.

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Help required new to FZ6
« on: 07 August 2014, 01:10:48 am »
Thanks Gents! I get the bike next week and hope to start stripping it down as soon as I can as it's been a tad neglected. I've already sourced another rear shock and down pipes.
I could be wrong but it looks as if the exhaust manifold nuts are easier to access than the FZS 600.
As too the front sprocket nut. I'm pretty sure I'll need a new chain and sprocket set as well. However I'll wait and until it's in the garage before I start spending anymore. Though if I do I'll make sure I don't drop me nuts. :lol

FZ6 / Fazer / Help required new to FZ6
« on: 05 August 2014, 08:47:07 pm »
Having just received an insurance pay out for my recently written off FZS600 (Van reversed into it whilst it was parked) I started trolling thru ebay and other sites on the look out for another bike, specifically for work and a bit of pleasure riding.

As a result I've just picked up a 2004 FZ6 with 10K on the clock that needs a bit of work on it (an excuse to tinker in the man lab).

One thing that needs to be addressed is the rear shock which has definately seen better days. Can these be serviced or will an alternative shock be suitable? I'm not bothered about Ohlins or Hagon aftermarket shocks unless they're being practically given away. A quick scan on ebay didn't bring much up either.

Also what other areas on this bike do I have to look out for?

Hope there's a foccer out there that can help.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Ron Haslam Track Day
« on: 22 August 2013, 11:54:12 pm »
Oh the joys of a small world. I too was at Ron Haslams school yesterday also riding a 600CBR. In fact I was also riding bike number 16 in group 4 with Matt Bishop as my instructor. Bloody brilliant day. Will do it again and recommend it to any biker. 13,000 revs down the Dunlop straight before going into the Esses plus Redgate to the old Hairpin. What an experience and worth every penny. :)

Nice one gents. look forward to meeting up again some time in the future. And Kerry, start organising that Scottish trip now! :D

cheers unfazed, now I think of it, your right it was the reflectors. I can remember at the time the headlight units that were available on ebay were around the £100 mark, and those that were,  had at least had one lug missing some where on the unit. And breakers didn't fair much better. Mine was perfect, just had the wrong reflectors in. The other thing that was mentioned to me when I considered going down the route i did, was that if the lenses weren't correctly replaced the beam would be affected. Dave Haslam did a real good job and was more than happy to answer any questions pre or post mod. How the previous owner got away with his MOT's for so long i don't know. He must never have taken the bloody thing out a night. I only had the bike for a week before I took me the missus and luggage up to Scotland. So I never considered the headlight at the time, just changed the oil and filter. Coming back with the weight on the back and a soft rear shock with the headlight pointing skyward into on coming traffic was not what i call joy. Thankfully the bike spent the winter in the garage where i was able to sort this and other issues one has with a new pride and joy in one's leisure. Oh the joys of biking. :lol

As to your comment about headlight alignment. From my experience I would go and get them checked. The reason I say this, is that the previous owner of mine never told me when I bought  the bike that it was a German import. Though the clocks had been changed and he had owned it for 7 years, it wasn't until I had my first local MOT that the testers told me the headlights were European ones   They could have failed it, but in the end put tape on the lenses and passed the bike. Rather than buy second hand headlights at stupid prices on ebay, I sent mine to Haslam motorcycle technologies in Doncaster and they converted the lenses to UK spec for £70.00 inc postage. I still had to play around with the adjusters on the back of the units, but once this was sorted, no problems with MOT'S and flashing lights from disgruntled on coming drivers.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Wheel bairing help
« on: 27 April 2013, 10:06:13 pm »
I know it's too late, but before I changed the front bearings on my 600 I poured boiling hot water on the wheel hub, making sure to minimize any spillage on to the bearing. Usually this process allows for the wheel to expand slightly making it easier to tap out the bearing. The problem you have is the same that happened to me when I tried removing the rear wheel needle bearing on my Gen 1 thou :'( . I resolved this by arming myself with a dremmel and a small cutting disc, and gently cut and split the case and prized it out. I can't say it was fun, but I'd gone past the point of no return :wall and the bugger wasn't going to beat me, and it didn't :D   If you're unsure about going this route then I can only suggest you except defeat and take it to your local bike dealer. As you are no doubt not the first and definately not the last to suffer this problem.

I could be wrong, but the method AdieR mentions i believe only applies to the front wheel bearings on Fzs 1000 and probably Fz6.

Don't forget to put your new bearings in the freezer as this allows them to contract slightly and pour boiling hot water on the hubs prior to tapping  back in your new bearings.
Hope this helps.
