FZS600 Fazer / Re: Clutch Pressure plate
« on: 03 August 2016, 08:56:35 am »
Don't use a screwdriver, use a 10mm socket. So long as you line the dots up, do the bolts up until they are all just under the spring tension, then do them up in increments working opposites bolts until all "nipped" up.

I think its about 10Nm isnt it, (nipped up is usually tight enough)

Good sets of FZR1000-RU forks are normally like rocking horse poop. Sometimes its easier to buy the whole bike and break it up to get a set.

General / Re: Early Thundercat-five speed 'box?
« on: 31 July 2016, 10:33:37 am »
Worked on plenty and never seen a 5 speed version, a bit strange as the cat is an evolution of the FZR which was a 6 speed and that was an evolution of the FZ which was a 6 speed

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Common FZS Issues
« on: 20 July 2016, 09:39:00 am »
The FZS runs a very slack chain as standard, avoid bikes that have been run with a tight chain this will knacker the output shaft bearing and in turn will allow enough movement in the gearbox to knacker the selector forks. So unless you are after a project and are fairly spanner competent or know some one who is, then avoid a Fazer than jumps out of second gear.

Other than that, seized and corroded rear calipers, speedos not working, rotten down pipes, and making sure the front sprocket is held on with the revised nut. Cracked inlet rubbers are usually nothing to worry about.

And because the FZS has a shorter headstock and the R1 has thinner yokes you will need a spacer machined to sit under the bottom yoke.

For Sale & Wanted / Re: Wanted, Gen 2 nose cone etc
« on: 15 July 2016, 09:26:12 am »
I do have the complete set up, fairing, lights, cage, infills, mirrors, etc etc all as it came off the bike (in black) undamaged. the only thing I don't have is a screen. All these items were removed from an Ex-Police FZ1 that has been purchased and stripped to build a Roland Sands Replica. So no damage and not taken from a scrap bike.

I was asking 300 for the lot but as there were no takers I have started to mock it up on the from of my FZR Exup project. I could be persuaded to take it back off and sell it....... as yet it is just mocked up and unmodified.

I do have the complete back end bodywork, lights, sub frame, seats etc etc but ideally i want to keep them.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: How to remove a baffle?
« on: 04 June 2016, 11:22:40 am »
It can be done but its a not of hassle, you need to disc cutter the end of the can off. you can then gut tthe internals of the pipe and tig weld the end back on. I picked up a FZS that someone had done this to recentley and it sounded awesome.... Had fuck all midrange power but sounded awesome. For the hassle I would just buy an aftermarket end can and link pipe.

Any issues I have heard of with K&N oil filters were with on cars, where I have seen fellows over tighten them and damage them causing leaks. I can only remember ever hearing of 2 leaking on bikes but both were user faults rather then the filter.

I never use them as I prefer OEM or HiFlo and use the filter cap sockets. Might be fakes as His Dudeness suggests

I always use Hi-Flo oil filters as they are made in exactly the same factory as the K&N ones anyway, I fact when you are ordering a HiFlo filter if you ask for the RACING or PREMIUM filter you will get an Hi-Flo oil filter with a nut on the end .... Exactly the same as the K&N ones and there aint that much difference in price between those and the standard ones

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Oil and filter change
« on: 13 April 2016, 07:58:44 am »
Don't bother spending the extra to buy a K&N oil filter, They are made in the same factory as the Hi-Flo filters & Hi-flo now do a "racing" filter that has a nut welded on the end so it can be removed in the future with an ordinary 17mm socket.

Don't buy a chain wrench to remove the filter, you wont have enough clearance to use it.... and they are shit. Buy the 3 fingered type then you can use it on any filter.
