Hello there!

My name is Thijs 34 y/o and living in the Netherlands. This morning I picked up my first bike, which happens to be a silver grey '03 FZS1000 with 31k km on the odo. Just in time too, since this afternoon it got very windy and we got some rain, so I'm happy to have made my first few kilometers on my own bike in relatively good weather. I have had enough wind and rain during my driving course. :D
I have already been reading the forum for some time, which was already helpful when I took my test drive last week. When I hit the highway at 120kph+ speeds at high revs it seemed that my tacho was broken and stuck at 7k rpm. It took me a minute to realize that this was an ECU error. Once I got back to the garage I quickly googled the error messages for the FZS1000 which told me that this was an EXUP servo error, which i had already read about on the forum. At the time I didn't notice any drivability issues, so I got back inside the garage and told the salesman he had a deal, if he would fix the EXUP valve. At first he was a bit reluctant, but once i showed him a youtube vid of what i noticed he told me they would sort it out. (I couldn't show him directly since it only happened at high speed AND high revs).
I agreed to pick up the bike a week later(today), and we agreed that i could pay after I made a second test ride to determine that the issue was solved. So today, when I arrived at the garage, they told me they had opened the valve assembly and that indeed it was stuck completely. They had greased it properly and after a second test ride I noticed quite an increase in pulling power in the upper rev rangej. The error message was also gone. After I got back I bought the bike and rode it home, very happy!

Once I got home, I noticed that the 7k error message still appears, but now only when I turn on the contact. Once the engine is running there are no issues. I assume this is due to the cables connecting the EXUP valve assy to the servo not being set up completely right. I will have it looked after when I get the bike in for a service this spring, since I'm not planning on make many kilometers the coming months.

All in all, i'm still happy, but i know there is some work to be done, and that at least the EXUP valve is moving. Any further questions I have about it I will submit to the appropriate subforum.

Best Regards,

Thijs
