Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Pot Hole Damage
« on: 17 November 2012, 09:02:16 pm »
You were luckier than me when I ruined two car alloy wheels on Essex's awful roads back in June. They hide behind the fact that they "inspect" them every three months and repair them when they are seen as "dangerous" That gets them away with anything, because I got nothing. (Because they inspect them and repair them when seen necessary) Within a couple of weeks of that, the local paper reported that the council had just spent £1.1 million repairing over 20,000 potholes! Obviously the first repairs since the previous winter! They have their own legal team here in Chelmsford, housed in a large building, paid by us with our taxes, and if I am going anywhere with this, I need to take them on. Far too costly I would think.

Who was that with Eddie, as I'm about to do mine?

I wanted half a car engine carried about 150 miles, I got one reply, and it wasn't cheap either. I'll go and get it myself!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Should I be worried
« on: 15 August 2012, 08:51:07 pm »
I was worried, about a year ago, as the master wasn't coming near me for many months, I decided to Ivanise my bike with a s/o kit. All went well, except that I lost a needle spring from one of the carbs. (A very small spring like half a cigarette lighter spring.) I cleared my bench off, and cleared and swept half the garage out with no luck. A replacement cost me about £35 and had to include a needle kit. I finished the job, and found the original spring about four weeks ago trodden into the coconut mat in front of my bench, undamaged!

What part of the country are you TrukkoMan, near enough for me to collect it?

I've not experienced that fortunately, but surely Ebay or a local breaker must be your first options? Don't give up on it as you will certainly miss it if you are going to keep the bike. Good luck with it.

Would it have been an import, and had the clocks changed from kilos to an older set of MPH? Just a thought.

And if you use a chain oiler, the whole lot lasts a lot longer AND needs less adjustment! (So make sure you do use a new lock washer)

Hi, just been and looked at mine, and the link pipe is part of the silencer, I've had it off in the past and put it back, it' s all one part.

I haven't reached that situation (yet), but wouldn't it be worth you speaking to Venhill, with the objective of them finding you a far more reliable solution, and at lower cost than going to Yamaha? It coud benefit Venhill and their future customers, as well as yourself. Currently, they have a reputation for supplying short-life exup cables! Just my two-pennorth

« on: 03 June 2012, 06:49:37 pm »
Sorry, I can't agree that it's expensive to get a bike running a whole lot better. Mine is an '04 bike that had just over 6,000 miles on it at the time of conversion, and I only had the "slip-on" version as I still run the standard can, and am delighted with the improvement. I DON'T ride this way, but it will pull 20 mph in 6th gear without ANY complaint.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Who fits Ivan kits in addition to Mike?
« on: 02 June 2012, 10:35:02 pm »
I was in that situation and ended up doing the job myself, and it worked out well. The most difficult bit I thought was revising the float levels, havig completed the job, it all worked brilliantly, but I still wasn't sattisfied, so I took the carbs off again, made a template, checked all the floats (they were all OK), put it all back again and stopped worrying. Just depends if you feel capable of doing it or not I suppose. It's certainly a job worth having done. Sorry but I'm in Chelmsford, Essex, so not much help.

Hi Rusty, As you say" I don't thrash it, in fact it's rare I go over 7-8k rpm." I, and Mike will doubtless agree, a slip-on Ivan's conversion will suit you fine, as I am a similar rider to yourself, and found it fantastic. If you would like the R1 gear change conversion, if you send me a £12 cheque, you are welcome to mine (I found it a bit heavy on my left boot) so I have now removed it. I am not anxious to sell it, but if you would like it, you are welcome to it.

Yes, I've always worn them since I returned to biking about 14 years ago. I have tinitus (a ringing in my ears), and am begining to go deaf, good enough reasons I would think. Still, at 80, I've a lot to be thankful for! :lol

Your Suggestions and How you can help / Why, who cares?
« on: 18 May 2012, 08:21:05 pm »
When I've put a bit of time and thought into my contribution to add to the comments of others, I press POST, and it comes back telling me that whilst I was typing, someone else has added a comment. WHY? Yes, I just may want to revise mine, but had I pressed post a little earlier, I wouldnt have been able to. WHY too, does it delete the comment I'm wanting to post, so that I have to start all over again? I just can't be bothered!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: suspension set up.
« on: 16 May 2012, 07:40:05 pm »
Whilst I am only 11 stone fully kitted, I had my 10,000 m gen 1 re- sprung, re- gassed and re- oiled by MCT suspension in Suffolk, and even I, at 80 yrs old, have to say it was a big improvement. With no disrespect to those using R6 conversions, what is so "special" about them do they incorporate an Ohlins or some similar damper?

Like MarchRide says, we are all different, (we are humans) and therefore use our bike differently. I wonder if peterjca will be riding his Fazer every day when he's turned 80, or just for enjoyment, as I do.   :)

For Sale & Wanted / Re: Wanted: Gen 1 thou rear hugger
« on: 21 April 2012, 10:49:06 pm »
I have a silver one you can have for a reasonable offer, it's like new, and I'm in Chelmsford. The reason I changed it is that it does not go below the swing arm, and it may leave the linkage a bit exposed.

Personally, I would spend the money and get the use out of it. With regard to not using the back brake, try coming to a stop, using the front brake, with the steering on lock, you'll wish you hadn't as you beloved bike will be laying on the ground! Don't ask me how I know!

Dunno about "Tunes", what he knows about our chosen bikes, would certainly fill many Haynes manuals! He really is unique and invaluable to us on this site! Thanks Mike.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Standard Spring Rate on Gen 1 Forks??
« on: 03 April 2012, 10:52:50 pm »
They don't have a single rating as they are dual rate. I've just changed mine (front and rear) for single rate springs to suit my weight (forks serviced and rear damper re-gassed too) and it's made a considerable improvement to an 8,000 m. gen 1.
