I've never had any major problems with carbs. Nothing that a can of carb cleaner or a rebuild kit couldn't sort. I like that you can get in and take them apart and do a bit of poking and prodding but I think I'm leaning more towards fuel injection now because of the tuning and data collecting side it. And everything is fuel injected now so it makes sense to learn about it and how to diagnose problems.

Which one do you prefer old school carbs or fuel injection and why?

Hi. Good luck with the new bike! Watch out for cars.

You need the wiring to be reliable so I'd be more inclined leave it alone and change the seat to accommodate it.

82
yeah could be a very slight rise

Most likely it's fine. A very hot day and low speed city riding will make the fan will come on. If you want to check it let the engine cool down fully. Then open the rad cap. Top it off with some water. Start the engine. If the pump is working you should see the coolant flowing and mixing with the water.

Nice one ;) A drop of oil or a dab of grease in the right spot can make a huge difference.

If you put up a video of the engine running we could tell you if it sounds normal

Ok, must try that then

AND ?????? :rolleyes

Didn't note any significant difference really. Tried rolling forward slightly, even clunks when I go from neutral into second. They must be all like it sir :lol

Have you got any play in your cush drive rubbers? If you grab the rear sprocket and rotate it clockwise and anti-clockwise is there any play?

« on: 18 July 2019, 08:40:22 pm »
Yeah you can get away without a fork seal driver. You put the new seal on then put the old seal on over it and you hammer the old seal down and that will seat the new seal. It's best to use a rubber mallet so you don't damage the forks.

You can almost follow what the engineer did when he was making the schematic. Copy this, move that there, biff baff boff job done I'm off home see yas on Monday :lol 21 years later......does that connection look right to you :deal :lol

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Mistake on the 98 wiring diagram?

Definitely a mistake and there is a second a mistake and both are repeated on the Haynes manual.
Nice one. When I was trying to figure out how the alarm is connected I saw that and thought that's a funny loop :lol Now that you pointed it out, the way it was drawn it would make the connection through the alarm pointless because the ground from the starter switch already goes straight to the cut-off relay :lol

I think there might be another small mistake on the black and white diagram. See the female connector going to the fuel pump? It says L/Y and B/Y, I think it should say L/B and B. And the female connector on the sidestand switch says L/Y and B/Y and it should say L/Y and B

General / Re: Anyone bought an MT10 or MT10SP?
« on: 17 July 2019, 06:33:48 pm »
The MT10 and the SP are an awesome bike in its class... when you look at the competition, most of them are using very old engines / tech ( GSXS1000 is a 2005 GSXR1000 engine thats been detuned). The Sp is a tricky one, when you add up the individual cost of the Ohlins electronic forks, Ohlins shock, colour display etc it stacks up.. but.. you would only need the Ohlins if you were using it on track a lot and if you were using a bike on track a lot it would not be an MT10 the SP is kind of the answer to a question nobody asked..
I work at a mutli brand dealership in Sussex (including Yamaha) we do not charge for a demo ride or swipe a credit card, there is a maximum excess of £750 if you bin it and all it will cost you is your petrol!

that said, it is brilliant on track, I had to go to Silverstone for "work" the other week and have several half hour sessions on track on the R1M, R1, MT10SP and even a Tracer 900 and the MT10SP was much fun!

You work at a bike shop! You lucky foccer :D

Here's a guess. Was the bank of carbs ever split? There's springs and linkages that join each carb to the one beside it. If the carbs were split and a spring was left out or the linkages weren't put together correctly the adjusting screw that you're turning might not reach. If I was you I'd identify which cylinder is having the problem and then try and get a look in at the linkage between that carb and the one beside it. Does it look correct? Is there a spring missing? Are the linkages lined up properly? See the little springs in the picture. There's one above and one below

I think the black is a ground going back to the ignitor. That black connects to the black directly below it in the alarm. So it's a ground when the side stand is up and the key is on. The blue is 12V coming from the light switch and going to the tail light. I don't know why you would connect the light switch 12V to the ignitor ground. Wouldn't that just short the light switch? I added a pic of the connection.

There's a blue wire L coming out the bottom of the ignition in the diagram. The diagram shows a connection between the blue wire and the black wire going between the alarm and the ignitor. I'm just wondering if there should be a connection there or is there a mistake in the diagram? It looks like a mistake to me but I'm not sure

I don't know the exact route that the brown wire takes because I'm just going by the diagram and the diagram only shows the connections that are made in the circuit not the physical layout of the harness. You could try giving the brown wire a pull and it might break where the problem is and pull out of the harness. Then lay it over the harness and that would show where you need to fix it. That's just an idea though, there might be a better way to do it. Maybe wait for a second opinion on the best way to fix the wire before you do anything!

Dang it! Try putting a wire from the positive of the battery to the brown wire in the connector going to the right handlebar switches. Leave the connector connected together. Tturn the ignition on. Does everything work now?
Yes sir you are correct. So I could run a new wire from the signalling fuse and join on to the brown in the switch loom to by pass the bad connection?
Yeah you could do that as long as power is getting to the signaling fuse. It'd better job to find the break and repair it but you could run a new wire if you want.

If you look at the ignition in the 98 wiring diagram http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=8
The diagram shows a connection between the blue wire coming off the ignition and the black wire going between the alarm and the ignitor. Is that connection a mistake?

K&N for me. They last the life of the bike and they're good quality. If you plan on keeping the bike long term they make sense
